great job on the dead lifts! Its always weird for me to workout at a different time or a different gym.
Thanks!! Deadlifts make me happy.
Well, today I went in and found that my great bench press from yesterday (on the ProSpot squat rack thingie) was not so great... The bar on it only weighs 25#!!!!!!!!!!! I thought 75# seemed inordinately easy, so I asked the guy if the cables made the lifts easier. Darn. So no PR, not even a little one.

That is SO sweet! Very cool! I told my dh yesterday that he had a choice, big butt or little boobs. He had no comment.

Amen, sista!
So my kids requested pancakes last night for dinner, so I figured it would be a good idea to try the pumpkin protein pancakes for myself. I used 3 whole eggs and 6 egg whites b/c we didn't actually have enough eggs, and ended up using chocolate protein powder. Weird, but I figured it would either taste really good or really gross. They were actually delicious fresh out of the pan, but then they seemed to get soggy REALLY quickly. I didn't put anything on them and the first one was great. The second was so soggy I actually couldn't choke it down! Ugh. Lesson learned, I guess.
Oh yeah, my husband helped me move some furniture around yesterday (3 HEAVY solid oak 6-ft bookcases), it felt good to be able to "pull my weight"!

On to today: wasn't planning on going to the gym, but a friend (actually my friend's teen daughter) asked me to take her in and show her the exercises from NROL4W. I had lent her the book a few weeks ago and she's very excited about getting in shape and losing some weight.
So I was nervous because I'm obviously not a personal trainer, but I figured most of us who started the program learned the exercises from the book alone, so some friendly direction would be okay. She had a lot of fun and did great! I actually had her use really light weights to begin because she hadn't done any of the exercises before, but she's got a feel for them now and next time she'll add a little as she feels comfortable. So during a couple of her rest periods, I did a mini workout:
3 rounds of:
AMRAP Chinups (8, 7, 6)
10 Burpees
20 Jumping Jacks
15 Pushups
10 "Bench Jumps" (no box around, so I jumped onto a bench)
It was fun, but of course I had lots of rest. That's all I had time for, though I got to stretch at the end!
Wow, I am way behind in here! Congrats on the new gym and the great deal! I'll bet the "club feel" is a cool one. I can't wait until the say I can ditch this gym I go to.
You are doing so well! I am a Survivor junkie. Were you happy with Bob, winning? I was, but I have heard others say they wanted someone else to win.

I was happy with him winning! I wanted him to win from the beginning. Actually of the final four, the only one I didn't want to win was Susie. Sugar ended up surprisingly likeable, and Matty as well. The funny thing is that I didn't watch the final vote count until last night (so good thing you were behind in here!)--I went to bed after the final 3 were decided, I was so beat on Sunday.
I'm glad I'm not the only that gets sucked into burpee hell. Although, it's been a while since I've done them (not that I'm complaining! ).
About the clothes issue...sometimes I must subconsciously think to myself (because we should dress for the size we are now, not the size we want to be -- thankyouverymuch Stacey and Clinton), "well, I just bought these clothes. I don't want to go out a buy new ones again!" and end up staying the same size. I know I worded that weirdly, but I think you get the idea.
Sometimes I've paid myself $20 a/week if I lost weight. That way I'd have cash around for new clothes and not feel guilty about it. I figured I would be spending around that much a week if I belonged to some diet program. In fact, once the challenge starts, I may just do that again.
I just now started to buy round 3 of clothing. I am doing it beacuse I finally am convinced that I am near the size that I am going to be forever. Sure I am up and down up to 20lbs in my cut and bulk, but even with that if I do it cleanly I can actually get into the same clothing on either side of my cut/bulk cycles.

I didn't think Susie should win, and I liked Bob, although he seemed pretty damn passive during the final questioning... I thought Sugar would get some votes - maybe her stupid answers lost her the votes.
Interesting how the jury said they'd have voted for Matty if he'd stayed in...
My DH tells me to keep deadlifting - says he likes my "deadlift butt" - whatever THAT means!!
Cool!

About the burpees, I only did 10 at a time, so they weren't so bad. And the "rounds" of that workout had lots of rest between because I was helping my little protege.
That's a great idea about the money for clothes. I thought about that, but right now with Christmas it's not a good time.

I was wondering about that actually. My new jeans are actually getting a little big, but I assume that if I gain a little muscle it would even out.

And Corrinne - what a beeeeyotch!
Yeah, I really though Bob was missing out on a win during the jury questions. He could have had a lot better answers without totally seeming like a proud jerk. I thought Sugar might get some votes also--she did play a pretty good strategical game.
Okay, workout this morning was almost a bust. I foam rolled at home and warmed up at the gym. Then it was like I had NO energy! Just as I was about to give up and go home though, the gym owner gave me some breathing tips for bench presses and I got a new PR which kinda revived me and I made it. I was honestly thinking that since I haven't had a rest week in a while (14 wks?) that I had overdone it. Anyway, it must have been in my mind. And don't worry--rest week starts next Wednesday.
Chinups: Duh
Back Extension: They have a thingie so I tried it out.
Deadlift: They didn't feel great so I had the owner watch my form. He gave me a few pointers but said my back wasn't rounded or anything so I kept going.
Bench Press: Okay, PR by 7 reps!!! That makes up for my messup on weight on Monday.
BB Squat: PR because I've never done them with a bb before and have only been able to hold onto 40# (maybe 45#?) DBs. Either way, it's a PR for what it's worth. Definitely hard though and definitely uses the glutes more than I was when I was using them with the DBs.
Snatch: HARD today.
Planks: Not so bad. I should probably try for 90 sec next time.
That's a great workout! I have to keep up with you on deadlifts now
I had little energy for my workout last night, too. I don't know why. Probably the crappy lunch I had. I haven't taken a rest week since end of July I think? I am taking a rest week from Sunday - Friday next week. I hope to get to the gym the Friday after xmas, but might not be home in time. For sure Saturday though. And I am not going to lie, I may go to the gym with my brother or workout at my parents house during those days

You're doing the same ones as me though! Yeah, you need a rest week too! Have fun with your family! I may take my sister to the gym also--she is discouraged and going in the opposite direction than she wants. She bought NROL4W a while ago but didn't start it.

Well, the last few in the last two sets were a little more muscle than momentum...and I had to bargain with myself to keep going. BUT I did it. And embarrassed myself, lol!!!

Sorry - I couldn't resist. If you'd added DB before it, I'd've left well enough alone, but as it is, well... when you see a slow curve down the middle of the plate, you have to take a swing. (I had considered adding it to my signature, much as a quote from me graces yours, but I somehow suspect you'd want some of your other words of wisdom listed.)

I totally deserved it. When I read dumb stuff like that on other people's logs, I wonder how they could have typed something that sounded so bad without meaning to! Now I know lol!
And yeah, if you put that in your sig I'd have to kill you.

Hah, you guys have me cracking up today. Thanks, I needed a good laugh!!
I do the same. Although some days, no matter what order I do things in I struggle just past the mid-way point.
Me too. For some reason the DUMBBELL snatches seem easier later on than something like the chinups or deadlift.

At least my humiliation is good for someone!!
Well, I cooked a great dinner tonight, if I do say so myself!! *pats self on back*
I had:
6 oz venison steak cooked in soy sauce, little red wine and garlic
"fresh" frozen sweet corn (tasted fresh)
roasted winter vegetables (potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, onions, acorn squash with olive oil and herbs)
roasted asparagus w/onions and balsamic vinegar glaze
All for 500 calories!! (Well, 564 including the steak sauce--I know, too much sodium but it was GOOD!!!) Did you know venison has only a few more calories than chicken? The cool thing about this was that I actually enjoyed the vegetables. Like, I wanted more enjoyed, not just eating them b/c I had to. Anyway, I'm rambling...(b/c I'm procrastinating washing dishes...shhh)
I loved the DB snatches when I was doing NROL4W. One of those exercises that made me feel really strong. Haven't done them in months since I've been doing OPT. I'm planning a bulk in March, so I will have to go back to them!

I love them too! I had a couple weeks in between "programs" so I just added the stuff I like to do.
So this morning I took my friend to the gym again and showed her the B workout of Stage 1. She was still a little sore from Tuesday, but she did a great job anyway. So during her workout, I got in a little workout. It was really fun, and the exercises were much closer together so it was much harder!
Now THAT had me sweating! The stair jumps are because I asked the gym owner about jumping onto the bench and he said he'd rather I not do it. Most of his stuff is new, so I understand. I'm jumping onto the second stair between the weight room and the locker rooms. Not as hight as the bench, but still ok. He's got an aerobic step, but only 2 sets of risers.
Oh, yeah, and I hit another new low today! 122.8! I was hoping to get back to 123 by Monday, which theoretically would put my maintenance range around 126. So that makes me happy! (Plus, it means I can have a glass or two of wine tonight!) Maybe I'll still wait till the weekend...not sure.
Way to go on the new low! You are really doing super.
You've got me thinking about the venison. Never had it but I think I'll look into trying some. How the taste and texture compare to a steak?
Are burpees the same as squat thrusts or squat thrusters? I'll have to look that up.
Thanks!
Venison is very like steak, but lots less fat/cholesterol. Some people say venison tastes "gamey", but I don't notice it. I love venison (and beef!), but venison is free and healthier! (My dh and son got 3 deer this year. I was hoping for 4, because we eat it like crazy and run out after just a few months.)
I watched a crossfit video on burpees, and the way that person did them was like a squat, but hands go on the floor, jump your feet back to pushup position, jump feet forward to squat position, then jump back up. He also demonstrated the pushup kind (forget what he called it), and a "chirpee" which incorporates a chinup each time you stand up.
Okay, so I was doing some crazy combo of all of those! It was more like a squat thrust, but I jumped back up sort of like the jump burpee (but no hands up) and no pushup in the middle. Hmmm! Thanks for the video, tracey!
Yes! You must join in the suckitude that is known as a burpee! You'll thank us later!
Indeed - you'll love them SO much you'll want to do them ALL the time. You know, standing in line at the bank, or at the supermarket while looking over the organic produce... the possibilities are endless.
