Thanks for your input, tt. Appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. And, more importantly, welcome to JPF ... I see you're a new poster.

Non-Training Day

Hit the gym at lunch and did 10 minutes on the StairMaster, 10 minutes on the stationary bike then a slew of my physio exercises, mostly variations of hip extensions.

(Some good news ... went to the physio this morning (4/29) and she was very pleased with my progress. Still some minor tension but definite improvement. She wants to see me in 3-4 weeks to monitor and then again once a month for 4 to 6 months just to make sure everything is working smoothly so as not to risk recurrence. I love that she has a plan for my long-term health and is not just treating the immediate problem and telling me to go on my way.)

Thanks. Definitely feeling leaner. Can definitely notice/see it. Interesting after only a week.

Funny thing happened today. I went to get my hair cut at lunch. Same guy has been cutting my hair for eons. So he's washing my hair and says to me, "Are you on a new diet or working out more? You've gotten leaner." I kind of look at him quizzically so he says, "I can tell by your scalp. You know - the head is part of the body, and I'm an expert on heads. I can feel it's leaner." So I laughed and told him he was bang on the money. Too funny. I guess this means that I now have Brad Pitt Scalp!!

Maybe phrenology will overtake Tanita scales as the new home-measuring process for bodyfat percentages.

Funny story! Oddly enough, a couple of folks at the weekend volleyball game thought I resembled Tom Hanks . So is TNT the diet that blasts fat away and makes you look "Hollywood-ish"?

LOL, Ben. I knew when I wrote that that someone would make a comment like that. Thanks for not disappointing!

tt - not sure if that would be a good thing or not!

RL - impressed with your use of the word "phrenology". Haven't seen that one since my undergrad criminology course many years ago.

TNT Advanced Workout A (Week 2) 4/29/08

Warmup:

10 Jumping Jacks
10 Neck Rotations to each side
10 Shoulder circles (backwards)
10 Arm Circles (forwards and backwards)
10 Lunges
10 Static Side Lunges
10 B/W Squats
10 Hip Extensions
10 Lying Straight Leg Raises
10 Side Leg Raises
10 Pushups Plus
10 Thoracic Rotations
10 Fire Hydrant In-Outs
10 Groiners

Weight Workout

Straight Sets
Bulgarian Split Squats 3X8 @ 35s (+10 EH)

Superset 1
BB Bent-over Rows 3X8 @ 115 (+20)
DB Bench Press 3X8 @ 60s (+5 EH)

Superset 2
Plank 3 @ 70 seconds (+10 secs)
Pullup 3X8 @ b/w+10 (+10)

Comments: Great workout. Felt solid and was able to up all the weights nicely. Back/hips felt fine on the BSS. Keeping the core solid is clearly the key! I was looking for pithy things at the gym to report but I've decided that my gym is decidedly boring compared to RL's.

Congrats on achieving a leaner head. Maybe they'll have to add that to the back cover of TNT.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, Richie, the low carbs thing hasn't really affected my lifting to any extreme. Being careful to take the protein shake beforehand and that seems to get me through OK.

Non-Training Day

Lunchtime routine - did 10 minutes on the StairMaster, 10 minutes on the stationary bike then my physio exercises, mostly variations of hip extensions. Also some weighted situps and some back extensions.

Weird thing about this diet ... I seem to be much fuller than was the case before. I don't think I eat any more volume as such, but I find I'm not hungry after a couple hours like I was before. I'm trying to keep up with my 2-3 hour eating routine still but sometimes it's a chore.

Ryan, the diet is from a book by Jeff Volek and Adam Campbell called the "TNT Diet". It's essentially a low carb/nutrient-timing protocol. There are a number of threads on the site about it so I'd just do a search to find out more. You could do a search at amazon too for info about the book.

Oh, and the workouts are looking great too, Brad. LOL

Good to hear you're back at it Rob. I'll try and stop in from time to time, but house hunting/stressing/preparation to move is taking up a lot of time.
