The gymnastics was really frustrating to me. I hate the new judging scale. It doesn't make any sense to me. I miss the 10pt scale.

About the girls not looking 16--I can see how that would be, but when you look back at the sport, most of the girls don't look 16. I thought that the 20yo Chinese woman this year looked about 16, and the 33yo German looked to be in her 20s. There's been a long tradition in gymnastics to look young. When I was competing (not at an Olympic-level), it was strongly suggested that we maintain the body of a 13yo girl. (BTW, I love the Karolyis! I heard Bella's voice from the other room and had to come running in to watch is interview. BF laughed and wondered how I could understand a word he was saying. It's easy for me to understand him. I translated for BF.)

What I found more upsetting was the American diver that they interviewed who said that she gave up her family and friends to go train. She also pointed out that she didn't go to high school. Now, I'm sure that she had some sort of educational training, but the message she portrayed.

I definitely appreciate the dedication these girls have. And honestly as long as they are happy with what they are doing then that is all that matters. Its not nearly as intense, but my brother has pretty much dedicated his life to hockey. But if you ask him he wouldn't have had it any other way. And like he knew all along his hard work has paid off because now he will be playing in college. He has also had many great life experiences because of it including traveling the country/North America. He has had a pretty normal life though and definitely never trained for 8 hours a day. Maybe 4-6 in juniors.

I had an opportunity to run track in college, but passed on it. I never regret it because I would have never been able to do that, work, and maintain the grades I did in my major. Sometimes though I think it would have been fun to compete after high school. Now I just get to live vicariously through my brother and sister

Count me in the quad-doms club. (hmmm... quadoms is a pretty funny new word for me. I will have to find a good use for it) I did a 52 mile ride one day, a leg workout the next and then the 3rd day did a 52 mile run. Yeeehaw!

Quadoms...luv it. I tend to overuse the word hammies when reffering to my hamstrings. Kind of like today....my hammies are actually pretty sore.

And yeah.....52 miles is a lot! We did about 13. I would loovvvvee to go longer sometime. There is a county park that is 22 miles away, I told my husband we should pack up lunch and bike out there. His response was "And then how do we get back?" Clearly he is not interested in said endeavor

BTW...today looks like it will be another day of 3 hours of work spread over 8 hours. Ah well.

Band name! Time to start a band.

The beauty of mountain biking is that we don't go by mileage because it's too depressing. Instead, I impress myself with length of ride over miles ridden. "2 hour ride" sounds much better than "15 mile ride."

Have you thought about joining a group ride? There's a group of women around here who organize no-drop group rides. It's really fun to ride with a different bunch of people, many of whom probably have the same goals you to re. trying longer distances.

Oh yeah it was a 52 mile ride. But remember that I do this throughout the day. I do 26 to work and then sit back and eat and drink and then do the ride home. This make that very doable. Your hubby could do the same if you sat around for a few hours. He might even like it.

Ok - RIDE I can handle... you originally typed "run" - makes more sense on the bike!

Wasn't feeling so great after work yesterday. Some days my multi-vitamin makes me nauseous. So when I got home I wasn't feeling particularly pumped up for some cardio. But I hopped on my bike and decided to take a new route. It was fun! I ended up having tons of energy and the road I was on was a little hilly so it added an interval effect. Heart rate was high most of the way. I had planned on only 30 minutes but kind of randomed around some trails and went on an adventure and discovered some new trails/routes. So it ended up being close to an hour. My legs felt better. Still not 100%, but they are getting there.

Eats were great yesterday. I really wanted to have some broccoli for dinner last night - isn't that weird? I usually hate vegetables so it was a strange craving for me. But alas, we didn't have any so I had eggs instead.

Will do Workout 4 from Stage 7 tonight after work.

Not much to say about today. Food was on. We made fajitas for dinner and had lots of veggies, chicken and no tortilla. I didn't miss it at all! I measured everything out on my food scale. I am learning more and more what a serving of each food is like each day. Best $30 I have spent in a long time! Well maybe my kick ass dress I wore to a recent wedding that I got tons of compliments on even from strangers. Little did they know how cheap it was. Score!

Today's workout:

Stage 7 Workout 4

I tried to go up in weights in each category. Most are not PR's because of the high reps but they are the highest weight for this many sets and reps so far.

Barbell Squat:
8 x 95
8 x 95 - Most yet! I know I can break 100 next time.

Alternating Sets:

Dumbbell squat w/feet on plates
15 x 20's
15 x 20's
15 x 20's
15 x 20's

Shoulder Press:
15 x 20's
15 x 20's
15 x 20's
15 x 20's - almost didn't make it this last set, phew!

Step up: (I am starting to hate these most)
15 x 15's
15 x 15's
15 x 15's
15 x 15's - almost didn't make it on this one either!

Negative Chin Up (in lieu of lat pulldown)
1 x BW each held as long as I could! First one was best of course
1 x BW
1 x BW
1 x BW

Well going up in weight in each exercise really wore me out. I was pretty tired and sweaty afterwards.

Halp! I am a little nervous for tomorrow. For work we are going to a daytime baseball game and my boss always buys the food and drinks. Lets just say that there are NO good options. Well last time I was there I didn't care about what I ate, so I never really looked. I hate eating a crappy lunch. Just throws my whole day. I think I will eat my usual lunch before we go, but that will have to be at like 10:30. And I will most definitely get ridiculed by my co-workers if I eat beforehand. I think THAT is the worst part about it. How to explain to people who pretty much eat crap (i.e. pizza, Chipotle, Taco Bell, Wendy's) each day for lunch that I don't want to eat hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, brats etc for my lunch. I already get a hard time when I don't eat donuts or other treats people bring in. Too bad my co-workers aren't like all of you

Its a tough balance because I don't want them to act differently around me. People tend to assume you think you are better then them when you eat better then them or turn down donuts and junk like that in front of them. It is not the case at all, but how do you get them to realize that? And how do you get them to understand why I don't want a foot long hot dog, bun and chips meal deal? Why would anyone turn that down, right?

You're right, it is a tough balance. I have enough weight to lose that people don't say anything (as they assume it's diet food). However, the longer I do this the more I realise that I will likely always eat this way. I was always quite lucky with company lunches the last time I was watching what I ate. We had enough different ethnic groups that there would always be veggie burgers for the barbecue and other items if it was fancier. Can you not take something simple with you and just say something like your stomach has been a little iffy so you're watching what you eat. Of course then they may all think you're pregnant.

I hear ya'!!!! It is tough, and people judge. I think many are threatened because of exactly what you said - they think YOU are judging THEM since you don't think what they are eating is "good enough" for you... I don't have a good answer, just that I've been there too. In fact, we're having a work lunch today and I brought some food just in case it's not healthy or on-plan for me - but even working in wellness, I know people will comment if I don't just eat it

The last time we went to a ballgame, I calculated the calories for a hotdog into my plan for the day. Just a hotdog with brown mustard and water to drink was all I had. What's a ballgame without a hotdog?

I like Pauline's idea. But I'd throw a beer in there too! I don't know about other places, but it seems like Coors field has added a lot of other options as well. Some of them not totally un-healthy like a hotdog or nachos. Either way, I'd probably eat lunch before and then maybe have a snack at the park. The office I work in is used to me eating on my own, so they don't judge (I guess that's the beauty of having food allergies).

So how did the ball game go? I can sympathize with the "no good options" thing. Hope you had fun and ate well...

Yesterday morning I got in 30 minutes on the bike. My legs were tired from my lifting the night before!

Thanks for the ideas everyone! LOL at Anne - why is it at my age that if you aren't feeling well its that you are automatically pregnant?

Christina - about the food allergies...I guess its best to find something good about them, right? People here know I don't eat lunch out with them anymore. When I did I always made healthy choices but looking back I know it wasn't even that healthy. I still get comments like "that is all you are eating?" Why yes if you mean this 400 calorie lunch I want to say. I am just as guilty of not knowing actual calorie counts of stuff as the next guy so I bite my tongue.

Well yesterday wasn't all that fun. I feel really ungrateful saying that. Most people would kill to have an afternoon away from the office at a baseball game with their tickets paid for. Well, I do like baseball (a little, Hockey is my game) but it was just a boring game. Not much happened. I ended up getting a hot dog.... and a $10 beer! What a bargain! And actually my calories (I think based on the info I could find on the hot dog and bun I think I had) were on for the day but not macros.

We ended up winning which is great - the Twins are doing well this year. But I drove myself and parked in a ramp so I get into my car at 3:30. Leave the ramp by 4:30. Finally get out of downtown by 5. Didn't get home until 5:30. Two hours in the car - it made me so crabby! I am never parking in a ramp again. It was brutal! I was just in a bad mood last night.

I can tell I didn't get enough water in me yesterday and the sodium from the dog must have been more than I though because I woke up this morning with sleep lines/skin indents from my t-shirt all over my body. That hasn't happened in a while. I am guessing that means I am dehydrated?

Well here is hoping today is a better day I still don't know if my in-laws are coming this weekend. Yes as in TOMORROW. They are special. I decided to act as if they are coming so tonight I will lift and clean the entire house - good NEAT opportunity because my mother-in-law is one of those people whose house is spotless. I don't use that term loosley. I mean you will not find a speck of dust or even a tiny fingerprint on a window. Puts a little pressure on a gal.

I'm sorry to hear that you had such a crappy time yesterday. I hate driving, and can't imagine being in the car for 2 hours. There's no way I'd come out of the happy either!

I hope today is better.

We got stuck in a parking deck last week after seeing Mama Mia (the show, not the movie) - I hate that!!! Just turned the car off and hung out for at least 30 min...

I never thought of the lines being from dehydration - hmmmm... I just get 'em sometimes and figured it was from being extra-tangled-up in my jammies.

LOL @ Bytsi I am not sure where I came up with the hypothesis about it meaning I was dehydrated. Maybe I read that somewhere? I seem to get marks on my skin from my clothes and socks in the winter. Who knows what its really from.

Today is better so far. Although another website about health and fitness I read just delighted me with this little gem in a post from someone responding to losing weight while lifting:

"Women typically lift weights to tone, not to bulk up."

Just thought I would share my annoyance with the word "tone" And when I read stuff like this I remember how happy I am to have found this site with people who are actually knowledgeable about fitness and don't believe the b.s. they see in ads and commercials. I know I have come along way and wasn't always as informed as I am now so I can't get too snappy, right?

LOL Bree... Remember, you are still learning, and you have to be careful or else you will get huge and masculine and become deformed. Muscles are UGLY! Do high reps (at least 20-30 each set), use only pink dumbbells, and try to mostly stick to the machines because you could get hurt with the big scary free weights .

Not related, but not totally unrelated either...this is the google tip of the day for weight loss:
Quote:
Chew each bite 12 times. This prevents overeating by giving your stomach time to realize what you’ve eaten
I'm going to try that later and see how it goes...

Bree, Sorry about the boring ball game and the horrendous traffic. I HATE being in the car for a long time!

I can identify with the mother-in-law. I love mine dearly and we have a good relationship, but she was supermom. She had 4 boys very close together, was a stay at home mom who also ran a little shop next door that sold her artwork and crafts. She vacuums almost every day, cleans the fishtank every week, trims and bathes the dogs once a week, dusts, mops, washes all the laundry as soon as it's off a person's back, mows, cuts weeds, takes care of the garden, fixes things around the house, and cooks four course meals three times a day. Of course I am not nearly so perfect which caused some problems for a while... anyway good luck with the visit.

beachplums - how did that work for ya?

LOL @ Bytsi! Its hard when you think about a LOLcat moment like - weightloss ur doin it rong. I am just happy that I have been able to learn more from being here. I feel like I have a better understanding of everything.

Celeste - You too huh? Sounds like they could be fast friends My MIL is great and we get along fine. She has her quirks though. And cleaning obsessively is one of them. She also had 4 kids and was a stay at home Mom. She also has a "problem" with daycare and she lets you know about it. I keep my mouth shut when she starts in about it. I have no problem with stay at home moms, but its almost as if she tries to make you feel guilty for having a career and making money. Whatever your situation that is cool with me and having your opinion is fine but when you harp on someone about theirs, thats when I have a problem with it. Well, they will probably be here tonight. Good times!

Fun news - I have a new niece! She was born yesterday around 4. I have another nephew on the way in December, too. They are on my husbands side and there will be 5 of them at Christmas this year. Babies are fun! Especially when I can hand them back to mom at the end of the day

A workout! And a busy night preparing for my clean machine MIL.

Stage 7 Workout 5

Incline Bench Press:
8 x 60
8 x 60

Bent over row (instead of seated row)
8 x 65
8 x 55 - I really can't go up in these. My form must be way out of whack.

Alternating Sets:

Static Lunge w/rear foot elevated:

15 x 15's
15 x 15's
15 x 15's
15 x 15's - I was going to be tough and try 20's again, but by the time I got to the last one there was no way.

Push Up:

15 x BW
15 x BW
15 x BW
15 x BW

Romanian Deadlift:

15 x 55
15 x 55
15 x 55
15 x 55

DB bent over row:

15 x 15's
15 x 15's
15 x 15's
15 x 15's

I wanted to go up in weight on this one but was still really beat at the end of it. Maybe next round.

After this I cleaned my entire house. Every time I bent down I could feel my legs kind of shaking. Its a good feeling I guess! I really didn't sit down once all night. I watched some Olympics of course but mostly when I was walking through the room.

For the first time in a long time, I think I was actually low on my goal calories. Just wasn't hungry after my workout. Why force it, right? I figured I made up for the day before since I was a tiny bit over.

Today is a rest day. Tomorrow I will do workout 6 from stage 7. I am going to do it again and will start it again on Monday. I need to get out and buy myself NROL because that is what I am doing next. Can't believe is almost over!

15 x 15's
15 x 15's
15 x 15's
15 x 15's

Your workouts are looking great, Bree!

My ex MIL-to-be was/is the complete opposite. Her house was a wreck! Always! Especially the kitchen. I hated, absolutely hated, to go over there to eat because she was such a messy housekeeper. She was so bad. So, in comparison, I seemed like Martha Stewart to her.

I feel the same way you do about the working vs. stay at home mom thing. Reminds me of how people are about religion.

And, a big YES to handing babies back to their moms! I love my neice, but it's great to be able to send her back to my sis!

Not so good actually. As it turns out, I take too small of bites to chew 12 times. The max I could get in was 10, and then I was just chewing mush. Kind of unpleasant, and I had no problem overeating!

Bree, the great thing about my MIL is that she's VERY nonjudgmental and completely understood about me not having a perfect house when my kids were younger. (It's not perfect now either, but now that most of my kids are old enough to help out, it's usually presentable or not far from it! )

It's weird about your MIL and the day care thing, especially since you don't have kids yet (I didn't miss anything, right?!) The thing is, from someone who's had the best and worst of both worlds (working, stay at home mom, homeschooling), I have the greatest respect for ladies on all sides of the spectrum! Working full time and/or staying at home full time have their own unique challenges and rewards for the parents and the kids, and it's really not for someone outside of the situation to judge. Unless she's ready to do childcare for future grandbabies? j/k

Congratulations! I have a new nephew also, born about a week ago! It must be that time of year lol!

Great workouts also--I'm tired just looking at them.

Oh yeah! I had a neighbor who vacuumed the sidewalk!

Okay, my mother does this. Only to get the grass clippings though (instead of sweeping) and it's an upright shop vac. However, if you passed in the car quickly it would look like she was vacuuming the sidewalk.
