Smith... yesterday I had to hang out and wait for it to do my horizontal pullups - a guy was doing shrugs in the Smith. WHY? Why would you "need" a Smith for shrugs??? It's not like there's gonna be a big bailout or ANY issue lifting the bar or balancing or getting caught under it, and his ROM was about 3"... whatever!
Bree, you brought a smile to my lips with your post! Yes, it's amazing how even healthy brownies will pack on the pounds! I've been the exact same weight for 3 days and it really is odd to be dead on. I've toyed around with the idea of taking a class at the gym, but I just don't have the time as yet. That may change if my husband's raise is enough to enable me to come home again! I do love my job, though, but it would be until January at the absolute earliest.
Glad I could make you smile! Hope the challenge is still going strong - its almost over, right? I can't wait to see the results! Not sure what the scale will bring today since its day one of t.o.m. I hadn't been weighing myself everyday, but started to again and now I am just plain curious since its been the same!

As for the intervals, I get weird looks also. I think lots of people haven't ever heard of them and they just think you're trying to go fast but can't keep it up!
Also--that darn Smith Machine! Do you know how many people have advised me to use it when they see me doing squats or anything that could be done using the smith machine?! It's really annoying--then my response is to gently tell them what I have read about it that makes me decide not to use it...without seeming snotty or condescending!
When I met with the trainer, she had me do squats on it. It felt so wrong. Since it was just a free consult I didn't want to cause and trouble - but I did say I had never used it before and usually did them with a barbell!
Oh and the Flat Out wraps are at my grocery store in the deli section. I have seen them at Costco before too. Not sure if that helps. They might be in the "low carb" section if you have one.

I saw a guy doing shrugs at one last week too! It baffled me since there is a machine dedicated to shrugs mere feet away. Whatevs, dude. I guess shrugs in general baffle me since I could never see a need to do them! Maybe its a guy thing?
Well I am not feeling as energetic as I was last week, or even last night. T.o.m. will sneak up on ya like that. I did my best on this workout though. I stayed home because it was icing outside. Literally pieces of ice falling. After my drive home I didn't feel like dealing with it again. Anyway, here it is:
NROL Fat Loss II, A4
Superset:
Front Squat
12 x 40 warm up - getting the hang of it
10 x 65 - ouch! I was holding the bar the right way across my delts but it hurt way more because my bar at home is thinner and it hurt way to much, so I switched to dumbbells...
10 x 30's
10 x 30's
Wide grip cable row (subbed db's)
10 x 25's
10 x 25's
10 x 25's
Superset:
Supine Hip ext.
10 x BW
10 x BW
10 x BW
Barbell Push Press, subbed db's:
10 x 25's
8 x 30's.....nope! couldn't quite get out 10
10 x 25's
Superset:
Dynamic Lunge
10 x 30's
10 x 30's
10 x 30's - killer
Lower body russian twist
10 x BW
10 x BW
10 x BW
Energy work:
Tabatas: jumping side to side over bar w/plates on it
Wow! A great workout even with having to do it at home...
Bummer on the ice...we have had snow here for a few days too. I'm not so excited about it as usual b/c of the horses, but I can't WAIT till ski season!
Hi there! I haven't been in here for so long, so I thought I would come by and say hello. Your workouts look really good. You are strong! I love that you have some friends coming to the gym! Gym friends can really add some motivation.

LOL Anne. I wish I was a skier, we have quite a few places within a half hour of driving here. One of my co-workers is hard core and is on a racing team!

Hi Ginger! Thanks for stopping by. I know I said this before, but I am so jealous of your new trainer and challenge at your gym! I was just telling a friend last night I wish there was a gym like that around here. And yes - this same friend has been a loyal workout buddy for many years. Its great to have someone on the same page even though she is more of a "cardio bunny"
Okay....now for the big news.......
I have officially lost 10 pounds since May!
My weight has been exactly 144.6 for at least a week and a half - so finally last night it was 143.6.
Its nice to know that what I am doing is working. Even though 1 pound isn't a lot, its still progress.
So last nights workout:
Treadmill for about 35 minutes - walkinng and running
Hip Hop class (I know! crazy! I am so white) - one hour
The class was fun! I am sooooo uncordinated and not ever having any dance background, putting moves together is difficult! The instructor was so cute and tiny and energetic and dancey....
The hardest part was definitely the choreography. It got my heart rate up and it was in the 140's most of the class, but I wasn't exhausted by any means.
The other good news today is that my friend is going to join my gym when her pt sessions are over at her old gym! She will probably talk me into taking classes all the time But it will be so fun to have a friend there, even though we do different things.
Tonight another friend of mine is coming to check out the gym. She is a little down because she gained the 1st year of marriage 10 pounds. She looks great, but I understand her motivation!
Congratulations on the 10#!!!!!! Yay! That's great, especially since you don't have that much to lose anyway! Isn't that weird how you can lose a pound overnight? (even when you haven't been eating weird stuff that would make you gain water weight) I do that too for some reason.
I bumped into a lady in the changing room at the gym who just came from the hip hop class. Sweet older lady who was chuckling at herself for taking a hip hip class but she said it was a lot of fun and I should try it. Hilarious!

Thanks everyone! For some reason 10 seems more monumental. Funny thing is back in February when I got a new drivers license I did the typical girl thing and put my weight way less then it was. Now its actually legit! I am thinking of taking pictures soon....would be fun to compare to last March.
The hip hop class was fun, but I think next time I want to try spin class. That is more of my scene.
Here is what I did last night (and am very sore from already this morning):
NROL Fat Loss II, B4
Superset:
Snatch grip deadlift: (more regular than snatch grip)
w/u 10 x 45
10 x 105
10 x 115
10 x 115
T-push up
10 x BW
10 x BW
10 x BW - I really like these!
Superset:
Bulgarian Split Squat w/O.H. press
10 x 10's
10 x 10's
10 x 10's - want to try 12's for the 8 reps next time
Chin Ups/underhand grip lat pulldown:
2,2 x BW - these were all a mix of chins and negatives
2,2 x BW
10 x 85 (lat pulldown - a trainer moved my bench out from under the chinup bar and took over the station. Oh well)
Superset:
RDL w/ bent over row:
10 x 60
10 x 60
10 x 60
lower body Russian twist:
12 x BW
12 x BW
12 x BW
Intervals: treadmill 1min. 5mph, 1 min. 7.5mph 6x
Last night was a great workout. I was very tired later on in the night. Another friend came with and she just did some cardio. I haven't brought it up yet, but I think she would love NROL4W. We used to lift weights together in the summers in high school, so I know she would be open to it anyway. It would be so awesome to have a lifting buddy!
TGIF: Think we are going to lay low at home tonight. Tomorrow the usual workout and house cleaning. My bro has a game tomorrow night and I will be there with bells on. He has been playing great even though the team isn't doing so hot. He has the best +/- on the team. Then Sunday the in-laws return. Boo. Have to come up with something for dinner....

I hate the bulgarian split squats w/overhead press. It just about kills me every time I do them. Ok, I can admit that they kill me with out the overhead press too. But adding that pause in there...ugh!
Christina - yes the BSS with OH press are killer. I actually like them with the OH press. I like the places I feel it working. I know I am strange like that
Librarygirl - Shepards pie would be funny! I might go out on a limb and make mexican lasagna for them - but not to spicy! Its a Rachael Ray recipe so not fancy, and when you use low fat cheese and whole wheat tortillas its decently healthy. Here is a link if anyone is interested:
Celeste - thanks. I always make a big stink but its never really that bad when they are here. We are having them again in two weeks for thanksgiving. Its bittersweet - I am just happy I don't have to drive 6 hours this year and get to stay put! I can't beleive its almost here...I did find out that my gym is open on t-day so that is a huge plus!
Busy day today...worked out, cleaned the house, and not we are off to costco. My parents will be here soon and we are going out for dinner before my brothers hockey game.
Today:
NROL Fat Loss II, A5 - 8 reps!
Superset:
Front Squat
12 x 45
12 x 55
12 x 55
Wide grip cable row:
10 x 65
10 x 65
8 x 80 I think? the next one up from 65
Superset:
Supine Hip ext.
10 x BW
10 x BW
10 x BW
Barbell Push Press, subbed db's:
8 x 55
8 x 55
8 x 55
Superset:
Dynamic Lunge
8 x 30's
8 x 30's
8 x 30's - I was going to try 35's but apparently I forgot
Lower body russian twist
10 x BW
10 x BW
10 x BW
Intervals: I don't normally do these on Saturday but had some extra energy for some reason.
I agree. If you do make it, please report back on how it was.
I keep forgetting that the US thanksgiving is still to come. I went out the other night to pick a few things up at the grocery store and I swear I saw Christmas lights up already. Hope you have a good family dinner.

Ah yes Thanksgiving is upon us. Its not one of my favorite holidays but I do like that I get two days off from work! Oh and I saw a house last night decked out in all its Christmas finest. The whole hosue and yard were lit up!
The recipe is really good. We ended up ordering pizza (bleh) they didn't want to trouble us they said, even though its easy. But I have made it many times before and its really good, and as long as your portions are in check its a nice meal.
Well the title of this post aludes to the fact that I lost another pound somehow over the weekend! My eating wasn't horrible, but it was no where near awesome. I even had one of those pieces of pizza and a breadstick on Sunday, and we had happy hour (chips and salsa included) on Friday. I was pretty active the whole time though so maybe that helped.
What's strange is before I stepped on the scale I had a feeling it would be lower. I just feel like I am losing, not sure how to describe it. My problem now is my upper body and chest specifically is starting to look too lean and my thighs and butt continue to not. I am hoping they start catching up soon! I tried to take pictures last night but my camera battery was dead so I will try again either tonight or tomorrow.
Last night:
Treadmill 3.5 mile run. Sooooo boring. I just hate it! I am going to try the stairmaster on Wed. to switch it up a little.
The gym was insanely busy last night. I usually get there a little before 5 so I can usually find a machine, but as I was leaving there were people waiting to hop on the treadmills.

I have that exact same problem! I'm starting to feel a bit lopsided.
I was just thinking about the same thing. My upper body is fine, not too lean or too lumpy, but it's like those THIGHS aren't changing! Not sure what to do...
Yeah... the body will release fat in the same order it stores it - so the areas we first notice it in are the last to lose... sigh... BUT - adding lean tissue to upper body helps balance, right???
Hey, thanks for posting the Mexican Lasagna recipe, I made it yesterday with a few variations (what I had in my pantry) and it turned out great. Leftovers for dinner tonite Yummie.

True--I keep reaching my "goal weight" and realizing there's quite abit of fat to go so I readjust to a new goal (and no, it's not some head game...there really is still fat there.)

x2--I was going to make it for dinner tonight but venison stew was requested. We've been having chicken almost every night so I changed plans.

Yeah, the more I look in the mirror, the more lopsided I think I am starting to look!

Yes, my upper body is doing fine, I am happy with the way it looks (sans the smaller boobies!) although my arms still have a little fat on the back of them I would love to see go away.

Hey! Glad you liked it! My DH made it for us last night because I was working all night and couldn't help. Its really easy and makes a lot of food! I roughly added up the cals in 1/12 of a serving and I got around 275. We used regular tortillas though, not whole wheat so that was the only thing I usually do differently. I think if you use leaner meat it would help too - ground chicken isn't all that lean turns out Ground chicken breast, now we're talking, but I have yet to find it! And I have overdone ground turkey breast...need a break from it.

Same here. I am only about two pounds from my orginal goal, and now I know I need to get down lower. Either by adding more lean mass and staying the same weight, or losing some fat and maintaining the mass I have.

Let me know how you like it! Venison sounds yummy. I pretty much grew up on venison. My dad hunted a lot. We have some elk at home from his excursion to the top of some mountains last year. My DH doesn't like it, but he didn't grow up with wild game. I think its a taste you have to get used to.
Okay very busy today so I will catch up on logs later. I have a crazy client who needs her stuff yesterday Here is whatt I fit in last night:
NROL Fat Loss II, B5
Superset:
Snatch grip deadlift: (more regular than snatch grip)
w/u 10 x 55
8 x 115
8 x 125
8 x 125
T-push up
10 x BW
10 x BW
10 x BW
Superset:
Bulgarian Split Squat w/O.H. press
8 x 12's
8 x 12's
8 x 12's
Chin Ups/underhand grip lat pulldown:
4 chin ups then,
2,2 x BW - these were all a mix of chins and negatives
2,2 x BW
2,2 x BW
Superset:
RDL w/ bent over row:
8 x 65
8 x 65
8 x 65 - I can do more on RDL, but the row still gives me trouble.
Wow! I think I caught Celeste's dizziness. I was getting pretty woozy during the blast challenge. My heart rate reached the 180's.
Scale watch: 142.2 so .4 lower yesterday....I can't get too excited because what goes down must....come....up? No? I would love to maintain this weight through the holiday next week! Luckily my gym is open the whole time....just need to watch the eats!
Wow, your workouts are just so impressive! Sorry about the dizziness--that sounds like a major blast!!!
Sorry about the crazy client...hope you have a good day!
Thanks! I have a long way to go to keep up with your impressive lifts though The crazy client had me on my toes all day until 2:00 when I finally got to eat my lunch!

I knew I had seen it somewhere! I usually take my trips to whole foods by myself because I am pretty sure my husband would have a heart attack if he saw how much some of the stuff cost that I buy. He knows about my Fage yogurt but I don't think he knows exactly how many I buy in a week!

I thought of that. I don't have a lovely kitchenaid - when we registered for wedding stuff I was about as anti cooking/baking as one could get. Now I am kicking myself because I know its something people would have went in on together to get us. I just think of all the awesome uses for it now that I am cooking more....sigh. I wonder if the food processor would do the job?
Well last night I was dreading the treadmill, so I thought I would do my cardio on the elliptical. I made it about 10 mintues and remembered why I don't like them much - it always hurts my knees. I know it sounds crazy because of the whole low-impact thing. I think its the way it forces my legs to move in a certain way.
So here is my ADD cardio from last night:
Eliptical : 10 min.
Stairmaster: 20 min.
Treadmill: run/walk 10 min.
I hate the treadmill, but feel like I get the best workout because I know how to push myself and pace myself while running. The stairmaster was fine, and I used to do that for hours back in college so I may visit it from time to time.
Ultimately I need to find at least one day a week to run outdoors. Even in the cold. I also used to do this for hours in college My plan is to bring my running clothes with to work, and run around there. If I go right at 4, I will have plenty of daylight left.
My weight yesterday was still 142. Holdin' steady anyway. I hope to maintain that next week and I made a plan to keep on track:
Tonight: Fat Loss II A6 - last one! and intervals
Fri. 21: off
Sat. 22: Fat Loss II B6
Sun. 23: ss cardio either walking/running (maybe outside!)
Mon. 24: lift and intervals
Tue. 25: ss cardio treadmill or stairmaster (and restraint at birthday dinner for friend)
Wed. 26: lift and intervals (and clean to prepare for in-law T-Day extravaganza '08)
Turkey Day: ss cardio running at the gym (or outside!)
Fri 28: lift and shopping - that counts, right?
Sat. 29 and Sun. 30: ???
Well that felt good to get that "on paper" I hope to stick to it!
Only question is: I am scheduled to start Fat Loss III on Monday, but I want to focus really hard on it and have time to do it right and with how busy I will be next week, should I just do a few more sessons of Fat Loss II? Any thoughts?
