NROL Fat Loss I, A2

Superset:
Squat
15 x 85
15 x 85
15 x 85

Cable Row - subbed Bent Over Row:
15 x 20 e
15 x 20 e
15 x 20 e

Superset:
Supine Hip Ext.
20 x BW
20 x BW
20 x BW

DB Push Press:
15 x 20 e
15 x 20 e
15 x 20 e

Superset:
Rotational Lunge:
15 x 20
15 x 20
15 x 20 - this hurt my achey knee a little...

swiss ball crunch:
15 x 20
15 x 20
15 x 20

Interval type thing:

Hill runs 4x - long hill by my house, probably about 100m. Was planning on doing 6, but again with the stupid knee. I would rather be able to work out then not at all by pushing it.

So didn't go up in any lifts. Hoping to next time with 12 reps. Time for a change - I am starting to get discouraged and am feeling wimpy

/whine

Its cold here again! Cloudy, windy, and in the 50's. Fall is definitely here.

Okay a few random thoughts....

1. A new low on the scale! Gettin closer to the 130's. I feel very in control with my eating lately. I seem to be getting leaner - at least in the mirror. I brought some jeans in to get altered yesterday to bring in the waist. I think I am going to to do this with all my jeans since my thigh to waist ratio doesn't seem to agree with most brands. And I spent a crap load of money on them and don't want them to go to waste!

2. My brother is doing the Bod Pod today. I am sure he will be around 10% or less. He kills me - eats like no other and is super lean and strong. He is such a hard worker - so dedicated. Never misses a day of lifting. I seem to have missed those lean and stong genes....or maybe not? We will see.... I definitely got the hard work and dedicated ones

3. Today is office cleaning day. We are cleaning the basement of my office all day. Lots of NEAT. The boss is ordering pizza for everyone, and I am already preparing my excuses of why I am going to be eating the lunch I brought. Here is what I got so far: "Oh shoot, I forgot we were having pizza! Well I have to eat this or it will be soggy by tomorrow." Or "Oh man! We had pizza for dinner last night! Ah, shucks."

Any other ideas? And no I don't really say shucks....

Congrats on the scale!

I would just say that you don't want to waste food so you'll eat your lunch... do you really HAVE to explain???

How about "ewww, pizza? how can you eat that? It's disgusting!"

or, as my boss tells my other boss when she brings in donuts and brownies for the office: "are you trying to kill us!?!" (They are married, so they can get away with this sort of stuff. lol)

I agree with Bytsi. I'd just say that I'd rather bring the lunch I brought in because I don't want to waste it. Maybe add in that you're just not a big fan of pizza anyway.

As far as the 15 reps, no weight increases goes, I felt the same way and was really glad to be able to increase as the reps went down.

Great motivation in your brother.

Thanks - I seem to be holding steady at a lower weight this week.

About the pizza, I did get asked 3 times why I wasn't having any! The first time I just said I brought my own lunch, the second time I just said no, I already ate, and the third time I said no, I am good. I think the fact that it was free pizza made it harder for people to understand why I wouldn't want any.

I know I should be able to just say "no thanks". I was talking to my DH about it and of course, in guy fashion he says "why don't you just tell them you are trying to eat healthy?" He is so right, I should but when you say things like that some people may take offense like I am better then them or something.

It's getting easier now to turn things down now that I am making progress, but harder to stay under the radar with my eating habits with co-workers and friends.

Well, yesterday was a lot of work! I didn't sit at my desk for more then a half hour yesterday. I sorta miss being on my feet all day. We cleaned up the scary basement at my work. Its an old one story building. I say scary because it was filled with spiders, cobwebs, dust and who knows what else (asbestos?). We probably should have been wearing masks cause my throat was burning by the end of the day. Not a good idea. Hopefully I won't get sick or anything.

Last night - Cardio: 35 minutes run

Running felt great again! I had intended on biking again, but don't think I have the proper cold weather gear for it.

Tonight we are having a beer tasting from the beer we brewed a month ago. I hope its good!

Good job on skipping the pizza!

My boss just came in, and in addition to the gourmet cake, she brought homemade salsa with tortilla chips AND sandwich rolls (all have either cheese or mayo or bacon in addition to the meat)... All homemade (yes, my boss is Martha Stewart ) and delicious and everyone will be eating 'em...

So now I have a decision. I brought an energy bar (cuz I can't exactly bring my full lunch in - I was planning to eat it in the afternoon, after the meeting, because it has to be nuked). I was going to eat the energy bar and maybe a little fruit. Will I stick to my plan or ???? sigh... I'm going to try to be inspired by you and stick to my plan.

I think it's because as you eat better people think that they should as well. Then they feel guilty that they're not. Of course it would be all so much better if you would just eat the pizza. Good job on not eating it though.

Thanks Pauline! It hasn't been fast, but what I am doing seems to be working for now anyway.

NROL Fat Loss I, B2

Superset
Deadlift:
15 x 85
15 x 85
15 x 85

DB incline bench press:
15 x 20's
15 x 20's
15 x 20's

Superset
Bulgarian Split Squat
15 x 20's
15 x 20's
15 x 20's

Mixed grip lat pulldown, subbed negative chin ups:
2 x BW
2 x BW
2 x BW

Superset
RDL
15 x 55
15 x 65
15 x 65

Swiss Ball lateral roll: umm, I did prone jackknife instead because it sounded way more fun...
15 x BW
15 x BW
15 x BW

Oh man I did this workout so fast and am super sore today! I only had a half hour total so I did this with little to no rest. I didn't go up in anything except the RDL's. I am going to try to go up in everything next time for 12 reps.

Last night we had our beer tasting "oktoberfest" for work. I got to sample a ton of awesome microbrews! The one we made, a scottish ale was probably my favorite. And now I have a case of it at home - yum!

I can't even figure how many little tastes of beer (shot size glasses) I had. And they had traditional German hors doerves (sp?) there from a local German restaurant. So I had a soft pretzel, and some bites of reuben, sausage, and spaetzel. The food really wasn't much, but I know the beer set me way over my daily calorie goal. Its so hard to figure - I don't even know if I am going to attempt to log it on Daily Plate. With my DOMS and the beer from last night I am sure my weight is up today - I am not going to find out. Oh well, it was fun time.

Hai!

I did resist the cake and food and ate my protein bar...

As for logging your evening - sometimes you just need to take a break. I wouldn't obsess... you can log "enter calories manually" at the bottom and just guesstimate the overall amount... or don't even bother and just start again in the morning! Wait a day or two for the scale too... glad you had fun!!!

Good for you! And I did try to log it in...I think I was over maintenance, but not as much as I thought.

Saturday's workout:
NROL Fat Loss I, A3

Superset:
Squat
12 x 85
12 x 95*
12 x 95

Cable Row - subbed Bent Over Row:
12 x 20 e
12 x 25 e*
12 x 20 e

Superset:
Supine Hip Ext.
20 x BW
20 x BW
20 x BW - is it acceptable to add weight - if I held a plate on my stomach or something?

DB Push Press:
12 x 20 e
12 x 25 e*
12 x 20 e

Superset:
Rotational Lunge:
12 x 20
12 x 20
12 x 20 - I think I am going to try the bar next time instead of holding a db because my db's are adjustable (go up by 5's) so it would be uneven at 25 lbs

swiss ball crunch:
15 x 20
15 x 20
15 x 20

*These aren't necessarily PR's, but the most at this many reps.

My squats felt strong. I was so giddy to only do 12 reps. It felt good to go up in weight on all this stuff! I was feeling pretty wimpy for a while there.

Friday I did pretty well on food. We stopped and got sandwiches on the way and I ordered what I felt would have been the healthiest choice anyway. We went to my DH's school's homecoming football game. I feel old! He bought candy and I dind't have one piece. I think I was too cold!

Watched my lil sis play soccer yesterday and it was all I could do to not run out on the field and play myself! I didn't realize how much I miss soccer. I need to get a ball to kick around in the back yard.

We went out to eat after @ Ruby Tuesday...I got the salad bar and some soup so probably a lot of sodium but just the right amount of food. Oh and my mom made a ginormous batch of cookies and of course made me take some home. I had two so far....and i am hoping DH will eat the rest! They are soooo good though We had my brother over and had a fire outside and had a few beers. Nothing too damaging. Then we watched the horrible Cubs lose. My DH is the biggest fan - I think he is actually depressed today. Poor guy.

Look so good, Bree!!

You can add a weight plate for the Hip Extensions.

Those squats look mighty strong!

Great workouts, Bree. I bought NROL and am reading it now. I'm trying to figure out what to do when I finish NROLFW. I'm halfway through Stage 6.

Thanks Jane! I am going to add a plate next time. I am working on the squats....need to get stronger in the lower back so I can support the weight on my shoulders.

Thanks Pauline! I am following the eternal beginner plan for right now, but I might do all fat loss programs in a row before I start hypertrophy. I really want to focus on fat loss first. I know I can achieve this with any program, but I felt like I had success during stage 7 of NROL4W. It was either the program or my ramping up my efforts in the kitchen, or both.

Today: 35 minutes run, HR average 157.

Again, I gravitated towards running instead of biking. It felt great. I feel like I am in such better shape cardio wise lately. On my runs my heart rate seems to recover much faster after a hill or increase in pace then it did even 4 months ago. I felt like I could run forever today at my "easy" pace (read 9:30 miles)

- and cleaned the whole house. I love a clean house and its funny how more willing I am now that I am conscious of NEAT

For those of you reading this in the challenge - once again I am inspired and impressed! Everyone is doing so well. Its so encouraging to be here and see everyone work hard and support each other. So thanks to all of you who continue to work hard and inspire me Without this forum I would still be spinning my wheels

If I lived closer...sure. Don't be too impressed though, my cleaning skills aren't that spectacular. Well not compared to my MIL. See previous posts....I swear she has a dust seeking radar.

Today:

Did one chin up...just one though, then

NROL Fat Loss I, B3

Superset
Deadlift:
12 x 85
12 x 95
12 x 95

DB incline bench press:
12 x 25's
12 x 25's
12 x 25's

Superset
Bulgarian Split Squat
12 x 25's
12 x 25's
12 x 25's

Mixed grip lat pulldown, subbed negative chin ups:
2 x BW
2 x BW
2 x BW

Superset
RDL
12 x 65
12 x 65
12 x 65

Swiss Ball lateral roll: umm, I did prone jackknife again...
15 x BW
15 x BW
15 x BW

*again, I went up in everything except the neg. chins. Not necessarily PR's but most weight at these reps. (I think)

HIIT: 100m sprints 6x. Whew! I can tell I haven't done these in a while. Felt great. Legs feel heavy now. Will pay for it tomorrow for sure.

It was raining here all day today and was going to skip this, but went for it anyway. The rain has never bothered me and by the time I was done it was just a light sprinkle.

This week I have had something weird going on digestive wise. I have had strange stomach aches, bloated, not hungry but craving sweets like mad, and just an overall yuckiness. I took a leap of faith and weighed myself - no change, but I feel huge. Not sure what its all about. Hoping it will go away soon!

Now I am off to watch the debate!

Bree, I remember a time years ago when I was in my first apartment....I called my mom and said "what are you doing". She said she was dusting the baseboards. HUH??? You are supposed to DUST the baseboards??? That's when I knew I definitely didn't get the cleaning gene and that a cleaning woman was in my future.

Fast forward several years...I had a wonderful cleaning lady for many years. She, unfortunately, moved. Now, I am back on my own and it's certainly a challenge for me. And, my house has never looked as good as it used to look every single Friday, after my cleaning lady did her thing. She was the BEST!

Oh, how I hate cleaning. The only good thing is that I hate clutter, too. So, even when things are quite CLEAN, things APPEAR cleaner because there isn't any clutter. But, this weekend, I am going to hit it hard from top to bottom. I am dreading it.

yes, I learned about the baseboards, too. Since our house is older, our doors are all paneled and white so dust likes to collect on them and its quite visible. Ah well.

Okay I have to rant about something:

I love my coworker to pieces - she is the sweetest person you will ever meet and would do anything for you. But....she is a sucker for fitness gimmicks. I try to be nice and tell anecdotal stories about DH's crazy aunt who buys all that "as seen on tv" stuff and how silly it all is. So in the 3 years I have worked with her she has bought every Beachbody.com product that has come out, that workout DVD from Madonna and Gwenyth Paltrow's trainer, ab machines, done the atkins for a few days....and now, these crazy flip-flops seen here which she is wearing at work today and talking about:

Shape Up Shoes - the Most Convenient Way to Shape Up!

The tagline: "Too busy for the gym? Wear shape up shoes for 30 minutes a day! Lifted buns, toned legs, and tighter core!"

Okay, I get how these are supposed to help you engage your core and use your legs more then regular shoes. I know I don't always have the best posture. But its the idea that she expects miracles to happen by simply buying these sandals. The expectations she has about these products she spends so much money on. It seems like such a waste to me since I know she doesn't do any of the dvd's she has purchased for more then a couple weeks and gets bored and stops doing it, then moves on to the next gimmick. Her enthusiasm is great - but I also get to see what she eats all day. Chips, candy, crackers, Wendy's/Arbys/Dairy Queen. Now I am no saint by any means with my diet, and have no judgement for others and what they do, it just gets harder to be excited about her new craze every few weeks.

Okay, that is the end of my rant today.

Dropping in to say hello. I just looked at those shoes and pictured myself falling flat on my face. LOL. I have no balance in heels even. These things would kill me.

Are you insinuating that Fit Flops and MBT shoes are probably a waste of money as well??!!!

My sister has MBT shoes that she used to take walks in daily and she would be SUPER sore, so I am sure there is "something" to them, but I'd be surprised if it was anything that could drive weight or fat loss!

MBT :: HOME

See link - they are the "anti-shoe"...They even have mens brown leather version they advertise in Men's Health and such...

Sigh - if only it were that easy...

Karla, I agree I am not doubting they help stabilize you and work some of your core muscles. Its just funny that its one thing after another with her....looking for a magic cure.

I think we have all learned that there is no magic pill or shoe - it just takes hard work! I am definitely still on my own journey of learning but I am thankful of the knowledge I have already "gained."

Yesterday: Bike ride 35 minutes.

Man, are my legs sore! I could feel them burning most of the ride. My hammies are quite sore today. I have been sore after the B workout each time! I hope that means I am doing something right.

I had the most delicious meal last night too! We have been using our new grill to its fullest potential before its covered with snow. Last night was bacon wrapped sirloin. I hit my deficit cals right on. 3 days in a row now. Hoping to see some scale progress next week or the week after when t.o.m. passes.

Lunch time challenge....about once a month we have sales reps come in and give a spiel on why their product is the totes awesome. They bring in free lunch and usually its a "box" lunch of sandwiches, chips, brownie/cookie. Luckily there is usually a turkey choice. Just need to avoid the potato chips and desert and I should be fine.

But barbecuing is the best when you have to shovel a path clear in front of the barbecue and find somewhere to put the foot of snow from the top of it somewhere. Trust me.

We barbecue year-round too. We usually have a super-bowl bbq, and it usually snows for that. Anne's right, there's something delightful about the snowy barbecue.

Bacon wrapped sirloin sounds delicious. I've been trying to stay clear of bacon because it's one of those things where, if I have it in the house, I will eat it. Last time it was in the house, we ended up having a mid-night bacon snack, and it wasn't just a piece or two.

I thought I did very well after my rest/maintenance week in that I very carefully wrapped up the last 4 pieces of bacon and put it in the freezer. I hate to admit it but I really just considered extending my high calories for a few more days so I could use them up.

In the end it didn't work because Mon/Tues before school the best I can usually manage is a protein shake with some oatmeal and frozen fruit tossed in.

I love to grill, too! And ditto on year round, though our South Carolina climate doesn't require snow shoveling to get to the grill! We had grilled salmon this week. YUM!

Yes grilling is key. Its so easy (and my husband usually does it) and there are usually minimal dishes to do when done. My parents grill every year for Christmas Eve dinner. We usually have some giant steaks or fish of some kind. My dad shovels his way to the grill and usually stands out there sans coat. Its awesome!

To be honest, when it comes to bacon I can pass it up. Its good with some things and the flavor was perfect with those sirloins, but I am not a huge bacon fan I guess. I know crazy! BTW those steaks were from Costco - there were 6 individually wrapped steaks and I know they weren't too expensive because if they were we wouldn't have boughten them on a whim like we did.

Okay so last night I did....drumroll please....

3 chinups! I was so pumped that I owned this workout.

NROL Fat Loss I, A3

Superset:
Squat
12 x 95
12 x 95
12 x 95

Cable Row - subbed Bent Over Row:
12 x 25 e
12 x 25 e
12 x 25 e

Superset:
Supine Hip Ext.
15 x 10 # plate
15 x 10 # plate
15 x 10 # plate

DB Push Press:
12 x 25 e
12 x 25 e
12 x 25 e - this was hard!

Superset:
Rotational Lunge:
12 x 25# plate
12 x 25# plate
12 x 25# plate

swiss ball crunch:
15 x 20
15 x 20
15 x 20

Cardio: 30 min walk with husband

Okay, I was going to do some intervals, but I was feeling very shaky and strange during this workout.

We had a presentation yesterday and luckily I was able to choose a chicken salad, but it was small, and I passed on the giant bag of kettle chips obviously. I did my best in trying to track this salad, and the cals seemed okay, but I don't think it was enough for lunch for some reason.

Either way I was spent after this workout. I went up in almost everything and it was a challenge! I am feeling strong in my squats again and am going to bump it up next time

This weekend should finally be a good one for eating! My DH starts grad school this weekend. He is in a program that meets all day Saturday and Sunday one weekend a month, so while he is gone I have some serious cleaning and errands to do. I am going to cook tomorrow too! I found some awesome healthy recipes for pizza (his fave) and some healthy desserts!

Oh another totes awesome thing for today....most of my jeans fit in the legs, but are too big in the waist and I finally brought a pair in to get altered. They fit amazing! I am so excited to have jeans that look great and I don't have to constantly hike them up I am going to bring two others in next week to do the same.

That is all
