Bree, very nice progress, I see LOTS of changes also! Pretty much everywhere--losing where it counts and gaining nice definition all over. GREAT JOB! (and btw, you're brave...) I still want to know which stage gives you the tan...

Thanks! My legs are my least favorite....

I'm very curious to see how you like NROL because I'm going back and forth between that and Power Training for my next endeavor.
I was interested in Power Training as well. Might be after this?

Thanks Celeste! Oh man, I got really tan after my rest week at the lake. I tan pretty easily but turn white even easier! So it is fading fast. I love the sun - probably a little too much.

Now for the workout....

Bree's very first NROL - guess the name of this log should change?

NROL Break In A1

Squat:
15 x 85
15 x 85

Superset:
Static Lunge
15 x 65
15 x 65

Two pt dumbbell row with elbow out
15 x 20
15 x 20

Superset:
Push Up
15 x BW w/feet on step
15 x BW w/feet on step

swiss ball crunch
15 x 10
20 x 10 - wow can tell I haven't done ANY abs in a long time.

Cardio: run two miles

Overall I liked this workout. It seemed to go by so fast after doing 4 sets of 15 in Stage 7 of NROL4W instead of just 2 sets in this workout. This only took me about 25 minutes so I felt the need to do more. I wasn't feeling HIIT and need to ease back into it so I just went running/jogging. Man I can tell I haven't done that in a long time! I felt like a turtle even though my heart rate was high the entire time.

I have about 300 cals left after dinner. Trying to decide if I should be good and have a protein shake or be bad and have a beer?

Mmmm beer. Actually I was good and had a diet coke and some PB2 instead of the shake. Wasn't that hungry. It was hard to resist the beer though when my husband was sitting next to me drinking Summit EPA. I will have to give in and have some tonight though

Thanks I am getting better. I used to have a glass of wine or a beer with dinner almost each night. I have been better about cutting that out during the week, just workin on the same for the weekend.

So far today we cleaned the whole house and I did workout B of the break in. Busy little Saturday....going to go to Costco maybe Home Depot don't know if there will be enough time Then tonight we are going out to my inlaws. My BIL is making his wings. I am not a huge wing fan so I will be able to control myself. I think its because I worked at a BWW's in college. Serving drunk dudes beer and cleaning up their chicken bones will do that to ya.

NROL Break in B1

Deadlift:
8 x 65 warmup
15 x 85
15 x 85 - tweaked my back a little again. Didn't go that high because of it.

Alt Sets:
Step - up:
15 x 15's
15 x 15's - really focused on from and slowed it down.

dumbbell one arm shoulder press:
15 x 20's
15 x 20's - this is way harder then two arms at a time I think because there is less momentum?

Alt Sets:
Neg. Chin up (subbed for close grip lat pulldown)
2 x BW
2 x BW - reallly want to be able to do chinups so I am still working on these

reverse crunch:
20 x BW
20 x BW

I like the fact that this workout doesn't take too long. I feel like I am choosing challenging enough weights to still get a good sweat going though. I have this thing in my head that if it takes less then 30 minutes I should be doing something more. Trying to get out of that mindset!

So the though crossed my mind to bike to my in-laws house. They live in what you would call an ex-urb about 25 miles away. I am guessing it would take me about two hours. The best part of all is that there is a trail that takes you most of the way so I would't be on the road for ver long. The farthest I have biked lately is 15 so I am debating it. Its a perfect day for it! hmmmmm......

This weekend was interesting. Sunday I pretty much did a lot of nothing except watching sports on TV. Lazy was I. Didn't eat the greatest either. Seems to happen when football season rolls around. My husband likes to make "football" food.

Wow what a freakin' busy day today! This whole week will be nuts at work - big project going out on Friday. Going to try and get caught up around here.

Just got back from an hour bike ride. Heart rate was high most of the way. It wasn't as enjoyable as I hoped it would be. My nose was like a sieve still from my cold and the cold weather. It only got into the low 60's today. I am sure I looked like a fool when I kept tipping my head back like I was looking up at the sky for something while trying to let it drain - very gross I know, but what do ya do? So I had trouble breathing.

I am also annoyed that this upcoming weekend we are going to visit some in-laws way out of town and I won't be able to get my usual Saturday lift in. It might have to wait until Sunday when we get back.

Also, another thing that is making me feel stabby lately is politics. I won't get into it here, but I need an outlet for my anger seriously. All I will say is if you aren't outraged, you aren't paying attention.

I am right there with you on that! I won't go into it either, but my BF and I yell about it all the time, and we agree on things! It's just so frustrating and, well, it makes me mad!

Anyway, how are you liking NROL? What plan are you following? I started out following fatloss, but quickly got burnt out on all the high reps/low weights, so next week I'm going to move into hypertrophy. It looks like it could be interesting. I'm looking forward to it.

Hey Bree - how long do you plan to do the break-in workouts, and then what are you moving to? I am planning to move to Fat Loss 1, just can't decide how long to stay in the break-in. Was the full break in period 1 month? It's definitely a challenging workout if you push hard, so I don't consider it too easy, just excited to move to the next step!

Thanks! Karla (I'll check back for response!)

Well, I'm outraged, but at a different set of politicians! We're headed to our third federal election in four years.

Sigh. Its going to be a long two more months!

So far I like NROL. I am starting with the eternal beginner. So break in for now. I agree - the high reps are getting a little tired. I really want to focus on fat loss though for now, and I know I won't be getting much stronger at the deficit I am shooting for so i can't wait to get back to strength!

Hey Karla - I am not sure how long I will do them. I plan on doing at least 4 of each and see how I feel after that. I will move onto Fat Loss 1 after this also. I am definitely tired after today's workout!

Sorry to hear that Anne. So we aren't alone! I have read some blogs of people who are actually considering moving to Canada if this election goes against what they want. Hey, for me Manitoba isn't that far away

Ok I am not feeling good! Right when I was getting my workout clothes on I got this really bad stomach ache and now after my workout still quite pukey. I took a vitamin E pill today - more then I normally take. Do you think that could be it? Is there such a thing as too much?

NROL Break In A2

Squat:
15 x 85
15 x 85 - same. Bleh. I really don't think I can do more with good form for 15 reps. Not yet anyway.

Superset:
Static Lunge
15 x 65
15 x 65 - see above

Two pt dumbbell row with elbow out
15 x 25 - decided I need to start pushing myself harder on back
15 x 25

Superset:
Push Up
15 x BW w/feet on step
15 x BW w/feet on step

swiss ball crunch
15 x 10
20 x 10

Hopefully this pukeyness goes away soon.

Good thing from today: Even though its crunch time at work, we got a new server today (meaning not a lot of work goes on because all of the files were in-accessable) and the dude set us all up with remote desktop so I will be able to work from home now. Sweetness.

Well the pukey feeling went away after a while. I am going to skip the extra E today.

Not much new - work is busier then usual.

Tonight I am going on a 6-7 mile walk with a friend. She is doing the breast cancer 3-day in a few weeks and is training for it. Should be some nice steady state cardio. I am going to wear my HRM to see where I am at when I walk. We usually average around 3.5 -4 miles per hour. I know one thing is for sure, whenever I do long walks like that I get sooo hungry and end up overeating afterwards. I am going to try to have a protein shake before I go and see if I can curb some of that crazy hunger since I have been doing really well with my deficit this week.

Speaking of...its lunch time!

It's funny, the news people keep saying that the elections are only 8 weeks away, and it makes it seem like such a sort time, but then you say another long 2 months and it seems never ending.
I won't be going to Canada either, but I will be very angry.

I thought I was going to focus on fat loss too, but my short attention span isn't allowing for it. I do really like the exercises in both fatloss 1 and 2--haven't looked at 3 yet, so I'll come back to them later. I just need something new.

I hear ya. I think the 15 reps of squats and dead lifts are my least favorite. I am still undecided about how long I am going to do the break-in.

Well last nights walk was cut in half. My friend decided to bring her greyhound with and they aren't known for their long distance endurance, so we only did about 3.5 miles. Thats ok though, it was a good walk. The greyhound gets so much attention! Everyone we passed was so interested in it. He is a pretty cool dog. Very calm and well behaved. I love how he walks, too!

Well since we didn't walk as far I wasn't as starving when I got home. I have been doing really good on cals this week so far. I am under my goal for the past 3 days by about 200 each day. I am hungrier and seem to be more tired, but hopefully it will result in a loss! But I won't really know for sure for a week or so because of my t.o.m. I have obseved a very careful pattern with it and know that the week after is when I retain the least amount of water. Otherwise the other 3 weeks I do - yet another lovely side effect of BCP's!

Very busy at work today - may have to be here late. Not good for food situations. There is a whole foods nearby if I get really hungry for dinner before I leave. They have the best salad bar.

I know! I love Whole Foods salad bar!! I'm actually heading there tonight to pick up some goodies.

Hmmm....hate is a stong word, but still not gonna go there - at least not in my training log

Wow what a busy crazy week! I worked a lot of overtime already this week. Which for me is all good, because we get comp time where as I know some people in my field who are salaried do not. I am pretty pleased with my eating this week. I felt so in control over my choices.

Anyway, I got home late last night but got my workout in. It tired me out sufficiently!

NROL Break in B2

Deadlift:
8 x 65 warmup
15 x 85
18 x 85 - this is getting easier so I really should go up next time

Alt Sets:
Step - up:
15 x 20's
15 x 20's

dumbbell one arm shoulder press:
15 x 20's
15 x 20's

Alt Sets:
Neg. Chin up (subbed for close grip lat pulldown)
2 x BW
2 x BW - reallly want to be able to do chinups so I am still working on these

reverse crunch:
20 x BW
20 x BW

I ate dinner later then I wanted to obviously, but its ok I kept it under control. I had saved up plenty of calories for a delicious beer as well

Yet another weekend of challenge ahead. We are going to my sister in laws out of town and her favorite past time is to cook. Awesome, right? Well not so much considering everything she cooks is loaded with butter, creams, extra cheese, deep fried etc. And you can't say no! She will literally make you eat her food. She actually takes offense if you say no. She has a bit of a weight problem so I think she is one of those who takes offense because by me saying no, it means of course, that I think I am better then her for not eating the house. You all know the drill. But she is like a drug dealer! Peer pressure abounds. Oh and they don't "believe" in diet soda.

Anyway, I think I will only be challenged with two meals - tomorrows lunch and dinner. Wish me luck....don't want to completely sabotage my good week.

I never understood people that feel the need to push food on other people. Back in February I was involved in a surprise birthday party for my mother's 80th, and I was determined not to eat the cake. Mainly because my first big slip had been on New Years, the next on my own birthday 4 days later. I felt I wasn't far enough in to controlling my appetite that I really just didn't want the cake. I managed to avoid it, but it wasn't easy at all. My mother understood, but the woman giving the party tried nicely a few times.

I admit that I hate going to other people's home when they've cooked. Yes, even before I was trying to lose weight. There would invariably be something I didn't like and it really is hard to avoid it. For that reason I pretty much always serve things family style and try and remember that sometimes people don't want what you've made.

So, if it's served family style take a big portion of whatever you think is the least rich, and a small portion of the other items. Assuming that turns out to be something good, ask for a bit more. Then claim you're full when dessert time comes. Okay, it likely won't work, but it's worth a shot. And on the soda front. Soda water with lemon and/or lime isn't a bad choice. It's better than just asking for water.

LOLZ 'bout not bringing politicks into your log... prolly a good choice

Your SIL - is she the same person as mine? My SIL is quite overweight (obese) - she's 5'2" and her wedding gown was a 22, I think... which is all fine if she's ok with it (her H is obese too, but it does make me sad that her kids are getting fatter every time we see 'em). But she often tries to guilt trip me and makes comments about how it must be nice to have all that free time to work out (like my day has more hours than hers?).

She also keeps a house full of junk food, and cooks fatty / fried foods... and if we eat out, she orders stuff like fried chicken tenders or cheesy pasta, always has dessert - then wonders why she "can't" lose weight... hmmmmm... I have often felt like she judged me and assumed that I felt superior to her or "better" than her... where if anything, she makes me feel self-conscious to the point where I'm almost afraid to order what I normally would or eat the way I usually try to eat around her, because she gets so offended by it .

I know what Bytsi means. I just ignore people and do what is best for me. I don't even bother to respond if someone makes a comment. If they have a problem with it, I figure it's their problem.

Bytsi - it is the same person! You basically described my SIL to a tee. This weekend wasn't so bad but I am glad to be home. I didn't do terrible this weekend, probably about how I normally do on the weekends. On Saturday she made this HUGE lunch. Most of it was relatively healthy, but the quantities of food is out of hand. I was stuffed for the entire day and I didn't even eat half of what they did. I guess my body is not used to eating so much anymore. I have a hard time believing anyones is though!

It was fun to see my nieces, too. They are such a joy. They are 6,4, and 3 weeks. I held the baby a lot - I forgot how tiny newborns are! She is just such a little peanut. So fun. But, as much as I love her, its always nice to hand her back to mom and dad at the end of the day So obviously I didn't get a ton of sleep considering we stayed up late on both nights and then were up pretty early with the girls.

Needless to say, the combination of being tired and not eating much today lent itself to a less then stellar workout, as seen below:

NROL Break In A3

Squat:
15 x 85
15 x 85 - same. Bleh.

Superset:
Static Lunge
15 x 65
15 x 65

Two pt dumbbell row with elbow out
15 x 25
15 x 25

Superset:
Push Up
15 x BW w/feet on step
15 x BW w/feet on step

swiss ball crunch
20 x 10
20 x 10

yep - exactly the same as last time. I didn't go up in anything and it all was hard so that is a little discouraging. I honestly don't know if I can go up in the squats. The last few reps are challenging and I almost lose form the way it is at this weight. Same with the static lunges. Sigh.

I have to get to work super early tomorrow, probably around 6:30 so I will be going to bed earlier and will hopefully be able to fall asleep!
