Default She's a brick ......... house

I've been training for about 7 years and considered competing in figure a couple of years ago when I was training with Nicole Pitcher-Scott but work got in the way and it never happened.

Over the last 6 months I've gained about 10kg of fat thanks to some medication and I'm not happy about it. It's also proving very hard to get rid of.

Current stats:

Height - 5'7.5
Weight - 69kg
Waist - 28"
Hips - 38"
Chest - 36"

I haven't really got a goal weight in mind, I'd be happy to stay the same weight tbh, I just need to have less fat and more muscle. And I really want to do unassisted pull-ups.

So NROL4W it is. I did the first workout on Sunday and it was quite tough. I thought '2 sets of 15 - pah!!' but I hurt and I had to work hard to complete it.

My diet has been a bit crap lately. The new medication has killed my appetite so I'm struggling to get 1200 cals. Between the medication and the bad diet I've probably damaged my metabolism quite a bit so I'm expecting a slight increase in weight while I get my cals up, but I can handle that.

I'm thinking of following the Metabolism Advantage eating plan although I may increase my carbs more on lifting days.

So diet for today:

m1 - Lean Body Breakfast, flaxseed oil
m2 - strips of pepper with hummus
m3 - bulgar wheat, chicken breast, spinach
m4 - apple, high protein, fat fee, low sugar yogurt
m5 - salmon steak, courgette, sweet potato
m6 - Dessert protein shake, handful of almonds

I haven't plugged it into Fitday yet but I recon that's about 1700 cals which is an improvement.

I'm going to miss my cardio but I snowboard every Thursday and Sunday for a couple of hours as well as a 20 minute fast walk to and from work so that should be enough.

She's mighty, mighty! Just lettin' it all hang out!

(Sounds like what they say, anyway, the Commodores, that is)

Welcome!

Well the plan is to be mighty mighty, but I'm not so sure about letting it all hang out

I always get the Commadores and the Communards mixed up. So Lionel Richie was in the Communards, can you imagine that!!

So today is my first B workout. I hate deadlifts, they hurt my hands and I have small hands so the bar slips out my grip. I feel the need for some cardio so going to add in some intervals at the end, just 20 minutes at 1:2 ratio.

Diet is looking like:

m1 - Lean Body Breakfast shake, flaxseed oil
m2 - hummus with red and yellow peppers
m3 - brown rice, chicken breast, asparagus, broccoli
m4 - coconut chicken with spinach salad
m5 - Dessert protein shake, banana
m6 - apple, peanut butter

I must confess I have never heard of the Communards Lionel Richie was in the Commodores but I am not sure WHEN he joined.

The Commundards were an 80's pop group fronted by Jimmy Somerville. He had a really high voice and was uber gay. Had bleached white very short hair and wore tight white t-shirts. A bit like Erasure. Can you imagine Lionel Richie being that band!!!

My workout last night didn't happen. Traffic getting home form work was horrible, so by the time I got home and ate it was 8.30 and too late to go to the gym. I will go tonight instead.

I had a 9.00 - 14.00 meeting today so that put my eating up the spout a little. We had an ordered in sandwich lunch which is always hard but I managed to grab the chicken and avocado on whole wheat sandwiches and some red grapes.

I was all about the British "New Wave" stuff in the early '80's (I am 43), everyone from Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, The Clash. I have always been an anglophile since your country is my "mother country." My hubby and I were there for 2 weeks in 1990. It was a dream come true for me.

I am having trouble getting my workouts in, also! I have been doing 2 a week and I am not happy! So good luck to you!

2 a week just doesn't feel like enough does it I'm tempted to get a gym stick so I can still train at home when I can't get to the gym.

I just feel wrecked at the moment too. The new meds are making me feel grotty.

I got the results of my blood test and it looks like I could have thyroiditis. I need a new body, this one is falling apart. I now have 4 things wrong with me I wonder if the thyroiditis is connected to the medication I was taking.

Diet is good. I'm still struggling to eat all of my food in one sitting. Breakfast takes about half an hour to get down and I've started to break lunch into 2 smaller portions which helps. My metabolism is starting to rev up though, I'm getting hot when I eat which is good to see.

It's my second A workout today and I'm feeling strong.

My diet has been bad for the last 2 days. I was in a 9 - 5 meeting yesterday so I got breakfast at 7.30 then didn't eat again until 2.00 and then all I could have was pre made sandwiches. I grabbed the tuna and cucumber on whole wheat. Then I had to get to the airport and my flight was delayed so by the time I got to my hotel it was 9.30 and the kitchen was closed. So I had a yogurt for dinner.

Today hasn't been much better. Got a good breakfast at the hotel but it was a sandwich lunch again, so more tuna on whole wheat and the lunch was small so I only got half a sandwich. I'm hoping the airport has some food. Even a grilled chicken sandwich from Burger King would do.

I've decided that I'm going to finish stage 1 of the NROL4W and then do EDT for 6 weeks then continue with NROL4W.

Welcome! I'm halfway through NROLFW Stage 1. What is EDT? It sounds like you are getting things back on track! Good for you.

Hi there

Thanks for stopping by.

EDT is escalating density training. It's good for increasing strength and stripping body fat. It's Charles Staley's baby but Alwyn Cosgrove has updated it for fat loss.

Well at the end of week 2 I have lost 1kg and I am feeling firmer. Very pleased with the 1kg loss, considering I have increased my calories and cut out the cardio I was expecting a gain.

I would highly recommend the metabolism advantage to anyone. I have seen a massive increase in energy, my skin is looking great and I am sleeping better. I wasn't sure about taking that much fish oil everyday but I am definately seeing the benefits. The Greens + supplementation is also a winner.

Sorry, I went a bit MIA but back now.

Weight has dropped another kg and I am looking and feeling leaner. Upper abs are looking quite defined now and my butt has definately lifted.

I'm still doing NROL4W but with an EDT twist. I've noticed a big increase in my strength. Yesterday I squatted 180lbs for 15 reps no problem and the 10kg db arnold press is like lifting a baby's rattle now.

Diet is going well. Managing about 2000 cals a day no problem now.

I'm pleased with my diet now.

On lifting days it looks a bit like this:

meal 1: 4 whites, 2 whole eggs, feta cheese, black olives
meal 2 - 2 scoops ON whey, peanut butter
meal 3 - salad with turkey or salmon, avocado, cucumber, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, asparagus
meal 4 - 2 scoops ON whey, peanut butter
pre w/o - TRAC
post w/o - ON 2:1:1
Meal 5 - quinoa, beef steak or venison, courgettes, aubergine

2 fish oils caps at every meal, green tea with breakfast, dinner, mid morning and mid afternoon.

On cardio days I cut out the quinoa and TRAC.

That's averaging about 2200 cals on lifting days and 1950 on non lifting days.
