Default I'm on the road back - Terry's log

After not lifting for over a year and having taken a health screen at work and been scared by the numbers, I've decided to carefully walk back into the waters of working out (and eventually eating right again). This time it's not for the sake of vanity (but if that comes I wouldn't mind ) it's for my health. I'm getting old () and I've gotta start looking out for myself. Full body workouts twice a week and cardio twice a week for starters.

4/7/08
Let's start this off easy with some light weights shall we?

Squats: 4x8 135 lbs.
superset (ss) with
alternating db presses (seated) 4x8 35's

bent over bb rows 4x8 135
ss w/
dips 4x8 bodyweight (bw) - yeah I know, I shouldn't be doing dips with old man shoulders but I just LOVE 'em so until it hurts too bad....

swiss ball crunches 4x12 no weight

There. Nice and easy, got the blood pumping, I'm sore but nothing like I'll be tomorrow......

This won't be so hard will it? Moderation is key.

Hey, you're back on the log page! It's like the "old days," right, Terry?

Glad you're back at it!

That it is my friend. That it is. I knew I could count on the two of you to be the first to post in my log. Seems crazy that it's been 4 years since I've been hanging around this forum. Years before on MH where I first "met" Mahler. How time does fly. I remember when you used to have to get a mod's okay before starting a log in here.

Those days are over but sometimes they want sexual favors. I'll ask RedWifey what the current price is and then go ahead and take care of it for you.

Missed cardio yesterday due to a good friend's mom in the hospital and not expected to make it. With him good portion of the night.... Back at it tonight though. HIIT is my friend.

Cardio day.
10 mins warmup on stationary bike (ow! Butt's not used to that - get your minds outta the gutter)
20 mins HIIT jump rope cycle with walking in place
5 min cooldown

Feels good.

Whew! Roland got me jump roping occasionally a while back and the first time I did it I thought my calves were going to split for the next 3 days! Way to go on 20 minutes jumping rope! Hope you can walk tomorrow!

Oh, I'm sure he'll be walking tomorrow, but it'll be a pretty funny walk...

I've never done burpees...I'm pretty sure I might burp up my lunch after doing 2 or 3!

Good work!

Full body routine week 2

All exercises were 4x8 unless otherwise noted.

squats - 185 all sets (up 50lbs from last weeks' ease-in weight)
ss w/
dips - bw only but that will change. Got a good lean forward and felt the pull in the pecs

bent over bb rows - 155 all sets
ss w/
seated alternating db presses - 40's all sets (this should go up next week also)

swiss ball crunches with arms straight out behind my head holding a 25lb plate. 4x12

Felt really good. I got a good, deep squat on and 185 felt like nothing with a little Slipknot blasting in my ears.

Feels sooooo good!!!!

Did cardio today. A mix of split squat jumps, tuck jumps, squat jumps and jumping rope. All in HIIT fashion for a total of 30 mins plus cooldown and stretching PWO.

30 minutes of HIIT? That's a lot, but it sounds like fun. I can't wait till it's warm enough to do bodyweight stuff like that outside.

what exactly is a split-squat jump, sounds unpleasant.

Welcome back onto the wagon and good luck with your goals Terry.
