Overcoming Obstacles, One Rep at a time...My NROLW journey
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Dori and I live in Nashville TN. Been here for almost 6 years now. Here's my story:
I've always been heavy, I've never known anything but being heavy. A couple of years ago, I took control and lost 80 pounds over the course of about a year. I maintained that (mostly) for the past year, put on a few pounds over the past holidays but have taken a few off since then. My biggest stumbling block has been my fear of being small. This is the smallest that I have ever been as long as I can remember (roughly, a size 14.) Getting past this size has been tough for me because of my fear of the unknown.
Basically, I don't have the support system that I had when I first started losing. I had a main group of people (including my trainer) cheering me on and I don't really have that anymore. This is where you all come in. I have a journal over on the o2 boards as well but am just not feeling the love. They're all competition (figure) minded over there and I just have no desire to diet down like that. My main goal is to be healthy and accept myself the way I am right NOW. And get stronger with NROLW, of course
I hope you all with follow along on my journey, I will be back in a sec with pics and goals.
Eat when I'm hungry, stop when I'm full (aka not being obsessed with macros)
Lift 3x a week
Cardio 3x a week
Make working out a priority
Stay OFF the scale!
Squat 145# by the end of the break in
Here's a couple of pics, the first is me a few years back at a wedding shower and the second is me in the bridesmaid's dress I wore at a wedding last weekend!
Here's my workout plan for this weekend/week, my schedule gets crazy alot so this will change weekly.
Sat: Lifting/ss cardio
Sun: spin class
Mon: Lifting (am)/spin class (pm)
Tues: Rest
Wend: lifting
Thurs: Rest
Fri: Lifting
Sat: spin class
Sun: cardio of some sort. HIIT outdoors if its nice
Welcome and good luck! You've come a long way baby!
Good luck on your goals. I am just starting and can't wait to be STRONG!
Have you been lifting already? That will make starting easier. I haven't lifted in awhile so I got cramps just from doing the squats. Can't wait to see how much I can pile on once I get past the beginner's pain.
I posted a little at the O2 boards before. I think i even recognized your handle... They are doing awesome things over there but it can be a bit intimidating. I have been lurking here for a bit and it seems like an awesome group.
I have been lifting pretty regurarly for over 2 years. I started NROLW a couple of months back but am starting the plan over because I kinda fell off the wagon. LOL So, we'll be doing this together!
The people here are very nice and helpful! I think of the folks over here are more athletic minded than over at o2.
Man! I had planned to stay for cardio after weights today but that was just not happening. I'm glad I started the program over because I sure as heck wouldn't have been able to do what I could 3 weeks ago. Kinda bummed that I have to go back to 2 x 15 but it's good for me
Here's the stats from the workout:
Squats: 45/15/1 (w/u); 75/15/2
Cable Rows: 70/15/2 ss with
Push-Ups: BW/15/2
Step Ups: 15/15/2 ss with
Prone Jackknives: BW/8/2
Hey there I am on the O2 boards also...no one reads my blog I know what you mean about them not being quite so...friendly. Some seem really nice, but it is sort of overwhelmed by the few who are...way too intimidating. At least that is how I feel.
I'm about halfway through Stage 1 of NROL4W. I'm excited!!
Hi Gina!! Thanks for stopping in! I still have my journal over at o2 and plan on keeping it for the time being. I have a few "regulars" that read it and post in it. I mainly keep it for myself anyway. I wanted to get one going over here because I thought I would get more support from alot of the ladies over here doing the NROLW program. I'm excited, to say the least, esp since I just started the program all over again due to lack of working out for the past 3 weeks. Seemed like a great time to start a log
I just got back from an amazing track workout. I did 8 sprints and considering I haven't done any outdoor workouts since last summer, I did pretty good It was great, I'm definitly going to try to do a track/outdoor workout once a week, weather permitting, of course.
That's all for now, tomorrow I have Workout 1B of NROL before work in the am and spin class after work.
I opted on skipping out on the weight workout this morning due to DOMS from saturday's workout. So, I will get back to it in a couple of days with the weights. I may try it after work today, but we'll see how I feel. If not, spin class it is I need to start doing some yoga for my poor muscles, I think.
That's all I got for today, have monday everyone!!!
Thanks for the comments. I feel so much like a beginner here compared to everyone else, but you're right, they are very nice and helpful. How lucky you are to be working out outside. Our snow is just starting to recede, which is unusual at this time of year. No signs of spring yet, but I keep hoping.
Well....since I don't know too many of you too well, I thought I should post some info about myself.
I'm currently battling an addiction to food. That's the obstacle that I am overcoming right now. It is an everyday battle for me to not eat for a fix and I am getting better at it with help from above and a great book
I LOOOOOOOVE to lift weights
I hate to do cardio (except outdoor HIIT and spinning, those I like)
I hope to compete in a powerlifting competition someday, as well as a bike race.
I am currently in school part time to become a registered dietician, hoping to make that full time within the next few years.
That's awesome that you are going to school to become an Reg. Dietician! How is it going so far?
I hate cardio too...that is one of the reasons I like HIIT...although I admit I like running and biking outside But more for fun, not for exercise (although it is obviously both!)
I can't wait to take my spinning obsession outside this summer, a friend of mine gave me an old bike. It's not the best (walmart special) but it'll do until I can afford my own. I can at least go out on the road for rides!

Hey
Terrific story about the weight loss. It's an accomplishment that brings so much positive. Not just the actual weight loss, but confidence, self esteem, not to mention better health. Good for you.
I understand (I think) your fear of getting smaller. It changes the dynamics of relationships with others and even sometimes with ourselves.
But don't let that fear guide you. Breaking barriers is part of weight loss, and although a huge part of it is physical, in my experience, I know there is a part almost as big that is emotional.
Well, I did workout B1 tonight and I think I'm going to have to switch out the static lunges for walking. My left side just does not like to do all the work. I tried so hard to "put my mind into the muscle" tonight while doing them and my right leg still seemed to do all the work! It was so frustrating. Is there a big difference between the walking and static? I just seem to do so much better with the walking. Here's the stats from my workout then I'm off to bed!
Deadlifts: 65/15/1 (w/u); 95/15/2
Lat Pulldowns: 80/15/2 ss with
DB Shoulder Presses (I did arnolds): 17.5/15/2
Lunges: 12.5/15/2 ss with
Stability Ball Crunches: Bw/15/1; 5/15/1
Sorry I haven't been around much this week. Between work, school, and church I stay pretty busy! Thanks to everyone who came by and visited
NROL4W stage 1 doesn't call for static lunges. If you read the exercise description in the book the "lunges" are what are called elsewhere "alternating lunges". Just thought I'd toss that in here.
Thanks lisa! I watched a video in another thread about lunges and think my form may have gotten off. I'm going to try them again tomorrow night with a little more focus and hopefully that will do the trick. I have Workout A2 to post from saturday but don't have my journal handy so that'll have to happen tomorrow. Sorry I haven't been around much. Off to bed now!
