I have been an avid reader of this forum for a short time. I stumbled over the forum while I had some questions about Berardi and Meija's book "Scrawny to Brawny". I figured I would join to get a couple of questions answered. I had no idea how addicting you people would become (that’s a compliment by the way). Anyway, I figured it's about time for me to let you all know a bit about myself.
I live in Syracuse, New York (yes it is very cold). I am currently in my first year of grad school, pursuing my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I was a scholarship basketball player at LeMoyne College, a Division II school here in Syracuse. So, through athletics I have been weight training for about 8 years. I trained consistently and never seemed to get any good results. I would get strength improvements but never gain any size. Yup, I was the idiotic kid that didn’t realize the importance of food. By the time I learned the importance I was playing collegiate ball burning thousands of calories/day. Hence, I was never able to make any solid size gains. I went to school at about 180 lbs and graduated in the area of 195.
I'm currently:
Age: 24
Height: 6'5",
Weight: 208lbs
BF: Unknown (I had a classmate do skin fold measurements on me with calipers and the calculation came out to 4.3%) I'm skinny but not that skinny ha.
As for my training program; I just finished the "Scrawny to Brawny" program and really enjoyed it. I started the program at 192 and finished at 208. I have been messing around with the Max-OT program the past couple of weeks and I’m impartial to the program. Anyway, I just finished reading the NROL and I’m pretty excited to begin Hypertrophy I. Let the games begin!
As for goals:
I’d like to be a lean 220lbs. (Why 220? I have no idea seems like a cool number), and to hit a combine 1000 lbs on the 3 phenomenal lifts that I hate oh sooo much (well I like to bench, so I guess only 2).
Wish me luck!
Corey

I'll begin Hypertrophy I in the morning... I thought I would add my meal plan to the log for some opinions/critiques/ideas. I plan to eat this on all workout day to be sure that I get adequate calories. It's dull for sure but hopefully effective.

Welcome aboard the board. Your meal plan looks pretty solid. As you know it takes mega cals to gain and it is hard if you are eating cleanly to get them all in.

No i don't do much cardio at all... I play hoops once or twice a week but nothing to serious. I don't think i'd be caught dead on an elliptical. haha
I'm only eating the full 4500 on lifting days... on non-lifting days it drops to about 3300.

Thanks for the comments willie and fisher... the tag-line is speaks the truth for many of us. Especially for me on the weekends, as i'm no stranger to downtown Syracuse. As if the booze isn't bad enough, as soon as I start, I'm no stranger to the pizza shop. It's a vicious cycle really.

DB incline bench (5 sets of 5)- 85x5 (Hard), 80 x4, 75x5 (3 sets)
Widegrip seated row (5 sets of 5)- 160, 180 (4 sets)
Weighted Pullups (5 sets of 5)- 25,30, 35x5 (3 sets)
Standing DB shoulder press (5 sets of 5)- 55 (5 sets)
BB closegrip bench press (5 sets of 5)- 165x5, 185x5,195x5, 205x5, 205x4
High pulls (5 sets of 5)- 135 (5 sets) easy
Swiss ball crunch (3 sets of 15)- Bodyweight
Tough workout... i was wiped by the end.
I'm pretty susceptible to muscle cramps. But, for the first time in my life i got one in my abdominals, in the actual muscle belly (not the typical side cramp). It was weird as hell. I'm guessing i was pretty dehydrated.

4500 Calories. I wish I could stuff myself with that much.
Good luck.

I wish you could do it for me... Its painful eating all the time, and time consuming to plan meals for the day... but it's worth it. Thanks for the good luck.
3/8/08
Holy smokes... the deadlift shrugs kiiiiilled me.
Workout B
Squat (4x10)- 185, 195 (3 sets)
Deadlift shrug (4x10)- 185x10 (4 sets)
Bulgarian split squat- I wussed out and only did one set with 30's
Step up- Same only did one set... i got real light headed from the deadlifts... i'm hoping it's just because I'm not used to that many reps for squats and deads.
Reverse crunch (3x15)- Body weight
I'm pretty disappointed in my performance. I'm not really sure what went on but when i got to the Bulgarian split squat I had nothing left.
Scoreboard
Bird legs-1 Corey- 0

I think that about sums up all of my college-years visits to my brother... sigh... the first time I got drunk (off Zima, no less) was in some craphole right at the edge of SU's campus. Oh, to be 19 again...

OH MY GOD!!!! This HAS to be a Syracuse thing, because that is exactly how I first got drunk. Oh, man... what is the name of that bar? It's right across from the freshman dorms, I think (how handy).
Good thing I don't drink anymore... I could very easily reminisce about Zima with JollyRanchers. Too funny.

There used to be a real popular dive called Konrad's??? If thats not it, it might be maggie's, lucy's, faegans, or chuck's? Any of those ring a bell? They are all located right off SU campus. It's such a small world!

Look where they were in the work out. All that leg work and then go into Bulgarians. You probably couldn't get out of bed the next day from the DOMS.
Yea your not kidding... Today, 3 days after the workout,my glutes and hamstrings are still pretty banged up. I was planning on working out today but my legs definitely needed another day of rest.

Workout B
Squat (5x5)- 225x5, 245x5 (2 sets), 225x5 (2 sets)
Deadlift shrug (5x5)- 225x5 (5sets)
Bulgarian split squat (5x5)- 25'sx5, 30'sx5 (4 sets)
Step up (5x5)- 25'sx5, 30'sx5 (4 sets)
Reverse crunch (3x15)- Body weight
Good workout today... it took me about an hour and a half though and seeing how I have to write a paper on achilles tendon rupture tonight probably not the most conducive situation for learning. Oh well it was worth it. I felt a little uncomfortable squatting today when I moved up to 245. I wasn't confident i was going deep enough without losing form. Hence, i dropped back down to 225. Deadlift shrugs felt a bit light but i've been hearing horror stories of people hurting their backs during this program so I was probably being too cautious.

Hey Corey - haven't noticed your log before now. Welcome to the board and good luck with your goals. The numbers you're putting up both in the weight room and at the table are impressive and bound to serve you well in getting where you want to be. (I have to agree with you all on the BSS ... put simply, they're a b*tch, especially at high reps. I think there are few on the board that would disagree.)
Rob
PS Love your log title. It's what caught my eye.
PPS From your forum name, am I to take it that you're a fellow member of the Smith clan?

Thanks pal. The eating is still miserable as ever but I did a good job sticking to the meal plan this week. I think out of the 30 meals i was suppose to eat in the last 4 days i consumed 27 of them... 2 of the ones i missed were the "snack" meals (apple and peanuts), so it could have been worse.

Thanks for the good advice. I've been trying to keep the weights on the safe side. However, It's tough sometimes, especially when my ego starts whispering in my ear.

Good luck, and you're right - skinny sucks, especially for a guy!
I hear you man, being tall is generally ok, but these long ass femurs are a pain in the weight room.
