So you live in Chicago? Get ready for some hills on the CMM!
Oh .... crap. I haven't even been thinking about the hills! I guess I'm glad I'm not needing to set a PR on this one.

Chicago will be a lot of fun! You've already registered, right? I don't know if it's closed yet but if not it will soon. I really liked it, except for the fact that there wasn't any water, but I'm fairly certain they will rectify that this year! Do you train with a group or on your own? I'll be excited to watch your progress this summer. I'm taking this year off from full marathon training and just doing a bunch of halfs, but maybe next year I'll be up for it again.

Marty,

Yes I signed up the first day. Did not want to give myself any reason to not run it. My wife's cousin ran the Chicago Marathon last year and could not finish due to the heat and closing of the race. I am sure it was just a fluke last year.

I normally train by myself. If the Nashville Strider's have any training programs for Chicago I will probably run those. I must say I loved my first 1/2. I think that is the perfect distance, but I have to at least try a full. Mostly just to cross another thing of my life's to do list.

Looking at your workouts for Fat Loss III you maybe right, It could be too much to do that and train for the full. I am hoping to finish Strength 2 and Hyp 3 and then Strength 3 right around the same time as training starts. Then use the fat loss workouts to cut from the bulking I have done. I am not going for any time on my first Marathon. Just want to finish and have fun with it.

Here are the hills you will face. have fun and Good Luck. I heard last night that the CMM 1/2 is the 2nd largest 1/2 in the country. Right now they have over 30,000 registered for the Marathon.

LOL!!! Love your description of this workout. It is exactly how I sometimes feel too. Good for you for getting the help that you need with eating. I am a chronic under-eater as well and am also overcoming this issue. You should really do a bulk program one of these days too. It would do wonders for you I bet. It makes you face your demons head on. One of the things I learned is that it is really hard to intentionally gain weight.

DONE!!! DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE OMFG

Fat Loss III, Workout B

Front Squat 12/25s 12/25s 12/25s 12/25s
Chin-up 10 10 10 10
Step-Up 10/15s 10/15s 10/15s 10/15s
Dumbbell Push Press 12/20s 12/20s 12/20s 12/20s

Squat 20/20s 22/20s
Pullover 20/15 20/15
Step-Up 20/10s 20/10s
Dumbbell Shoulder Press 20/10s 20/10s 20/10s 20/10s

Swiss Ball Crunch (Long-Arm) 15 15

Finished! No more Fat Loss III, for like, three months. OMFG I am so happy.

So - Fat Loss III went out with a whimper. This workout sucked. No records were set. Part of this was that I am spent on this workout, both physically and emotionally. And part of it is that I am running a stinking half marathon tomorrow and didn't want to push it too hard.

Want to hear the good news, though? I did some final numbers today to measure my progress.

3/7/08 (I'll count this as my start date; after I'd lost all the vacation water and crap)
Weight - 139.8
Omron - 24.1%
Waist - 28.5

4/25/08
Weight - 135.0
Omron - 22.6%
Waist - 27

I'm really happy with those results! The cool thing with the percentage is that I even had a birthday in there, which would bring the percentage up. Woot!

I took pics today, but am on vacation and I left my camera cord at work. I'll post them when I get back.

Next up: a) Half-marathon in 9 hours. In the rain. Awesome!
b) A week off lifting
c) Starting Afterburn at the hotel gym on Friday!
d) Attempting to eat like a normal healthy person

Thanks so much for posting this!! I am in Nashville now and feeling okay about the hills. We'll see how it goes tomorrow! I just hope it doesn't rain.

Thanks Karla! I have to say you have been an inspiration to me. I can't wait to see your final pics at the end of the challenge. Your cut starts in a few days, right?

Hey Marty -

Good luck on your race and congrats on finishing FatLoss III. I know just what you mean when you said it went out with a whimper.

Thanks guys! It went great! I finished it in 2:30:36, which is only 2 minutes slower than my PR. I was really happy because my training was pretty half-assed thanks to Chicago's winter and because of all the hills, which I'm not used to.

Nashville was a lot of fun! We had a great time at the race and afterwards. We went to a winery the night after the race and it felt really good to have some cocktails!

I just got back from vacation and a week off of lifting. I have to say that I needed it after Fat Loss III. I started Afterburn on Friday and the first workout seemed So. Easy. Rest periods? What are those? hee hee

Great Job on the marathon! Those hills really are misleading. I have ran 5k's on parts of the course before, but never the full 1/2. Depending on how much I like or hate the marathon distance, I may do the full next year.

yeah I bet your glad to have rest periods after FL3. It looks really crazy!

Hi there! First time I've checked out your log and really enjoyed what I read! Fantastic job in the 1/2 marathon!! Doesn't it feel so great to complete something like that? I did a couple triathalons last year but realized after focusing more on weight training that I was never destined to run much more than 4-5 miles. LOL!
Just wanted to pop on here and say hello--LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your avatar!
Keep up all your hard work and congrats on all your personal acheivements thus far!
