Default Kelly's War and Battle Plans

Well I suppose this is the fastest way to get help and advice and opinions. I love reading logs. So this is mine. I am on workout 4 Stage 1. I Have had to make some adjustments since my gym is focused on rehab. My son is there for PT for post chemotherapy, so I thought if I am stuck here an hour a day I might as well workout! So I have what I have till the end of October.

For instance, Squats with a smith machine, Cybex lat pulldown sort of thing, that kind of thing.

I weight lifted in the days of Rachel Mclish ( I'm 46) haha! But I just had to lift heavy in one of those old school gyms. I was only 18-19 at the time. There was only 2 women and yes, I wore a thong and 'tards roflol! Looked good in them tho LOL!!! Ahh those were the tacky days. Big hair, terry head band and wrist bands, all coordinated. No WONDER everyone looked at me oddly in that sweat shop LOL!

So I needed a social life instead of an old beat up gym on Friday nites. All the guys were like Dad's to me back then. So NO social life in there LOL! And there went my fitness until I met DH and got into martial arts. Went so far with that, got tired of black eyes and quit right before my brown belt, got married and well, got fat. Happy tho LOL! Not with the fat. Never had money for the gym, hey, life got in the way.

So here I am many years later with about 80 - 100 lbs to lose. I can't stand to diet, been there done that messed up my metabolism. So I decide just to get moving and get stronger and see where that takes me.

Well it took me down some major inches without pounds lost. But I don't have many people who understand my love of heavy weights. I figure ya'll were fine with it .

Oops forgot to add stats

Back at the end of Jan beginning of Feb when I started theses are them...

Wt.253.5 Now 253.2
Chest 17" 46"
Waist 40.5" 40"
Bellybutton 46.5" 45.5"
Butt 50.25 50"

Now everyone sigh a collective sigh of relief that YOU don't look like this! It is easier to keep it off then to get it off. If you have your face in a bag of M&M's right now, get it out and wake up!

I love to tell young girls about weight lifting and health, Um, I just have to walk the walk and talk the talk ya know?

Hi Kelly!
Good luck on your journey! I have always loved Rachel's body, she rocks!
This is a great site for motivation and educated information.

Okay okay before everyone goes haywire on my SMITH SQUATS. I just readup on why they are hated with a passion!

I am going to try DB's. BUt I don't know if I have the grip strength for those. How the heck do you get a bar behind your head with no rack if I wanna use a bar? There has got to be a way!!!!!! No spotter remember, unless it is the old guy with the short running shorts and twig arms. NO YUCK please don't make me do that!

Well the Smith machine is a moot point. I fell last Friday when I slipped on ice in a restaurant parking lot. Whammo on my knees. I took it easy last Monday but I skipped Wed being sore and now I wonder what to do.

Step ups don't bother me. Squats bother me. Lunges always bothered me LOL!

So opinions. What should I do?

Dead lifts are fine.

Okay I am still sore. Had a crown put on at the dentist. So I am derailed for the moment. I have spent some time searching what I could do instead of bending my knees so deep.

I came across an old favorite exercise and realized that I was trained in the westside kind. I didn't know that . Learn something everyday!

Anyway I think I am going to sub Goodmornings for the squats with my sore knees. I used to LOVE THEM. They blasted my glutes back when I had good ones Ha!

Now I am going to search for another non bending blasting quad workout for the lunges. I have to work on loosening up my hips and right now it really stresses my knees. Sigh... getting old stinks!

Knees feeling better. Doing bodyweight next week. I am going to start the 3 sets in Stage 1 next week.

I hope I get a good solid run soon!

Next week is messed up. DS going for check up with oncologist. Emotional eating alert!

I need to workout the stress.

I am looking into home gym apparatus. I am so glad I found some decent forums. I will not end up wasting my money on "fluffy" weight stuff.

I went into a gym equipment place in an upscale part of town. UGH. The only squat rack they had, had so much useless junk on it it was ridiculous. I was shocked and asked is that all you have??!!

The sales guy sheepishly said, yeah, that is all we can sell around here. No one likes just the iron.

Interesting.

I want what works. Not something shiney and pretty to clutter up my basement.

Back in the saddle. My eats are way off. PMSing. Lookout LOL!

I got some weightlifting gloves since my hands are getting torn up from the diamond cut bars. But rumor is they are not good for deadlifts? Sheesh what is a girl to do. My ring is getting massacred muchless my callouses are huge.

I was nervous about the knees. So my lunges were BW and I hung on to a nearby fixture to be able to catch myself. I stepped wider then I was and shockingly it was better then I had been doing them. I was able to complete them. I have to stretch my IT or something like that. I usually am unable to stand up straight while doing them. Holding onto something helped.

Stage 1 4B
DL 2x12x95
shoulder press 1x12x20 1x12x15
lat pulldown 2x12x80
lunge 2x12xBW
ball crunch 1x12 1x20 (forgot to stop LOL)

I also had time to kill waiting for DS but was NOT in the mood for HIIT. So I did 25 min at 2 mph fooling with the incline 5% -10%-12% with rest inbetween. Mini HIIT LOL or bunny hiit.

I have the Every Other Day Diet ebook and they recently added a forum. I might give that a go. I need to tighten up things a bit ( a lot) for me, I am not dropping like I need to for the doc.

I have a physical next week with a new doc (ugh I hate that). Hopefully he will be fine. Two of his specialties are athletic med and preventive med. Maybe that will be a good thing for me.

My other doc, she just said to lose weight. I would say yeah (no kidding) then she would send me on my way. This time she says, we need to treat your blood pressure. I was like WHA? I didn't know it was a problem. So to the curb doc! I need more than 2.5 min flat yanno?

Hey Kelly,
Nice workout. Are you healing from the fall?
Do you guys have any "Play it Again Sports" stores, near you? We found a really great bench with a squat rack on the end, brand new for right at $200. Now, it doesn't really have a safety but DH and I agree that if one of us is trying a new weight out, we can spot each other or just drop the dang bar, if needed.

I think you should take off your rings when you lift.

I agree. I never lift with rings. If my hands swell, I'm screwed. Plus, it scratches the gold and messes with my grip (who needs that little extra bump?) It took awhile to get used to the "no, I'm not single" vibe, but after a few weeks, the weirdos left me alone anyway. I think once they realize you're serious about lifting, they don't know what to do.

Yes, thanks for asking, healing finally. I have a really tender sore spot I am going to ask the doc to look at, but it is only when I poke at it, so I better not poke LOL!

I was looking on the craiglist today. I don't think my hubby will run around looking at these things, he is SO picky about used stuff whereas I LOVE a deal! I think I am going to put the squeeze on hubby later this year when my membership is coming due. I have 2 boys that would love this and DH needs to workout at home with impossible hours.

I think I have my eye on a Power Tec Power Rack a utility bench and some olympic weights. I have regular weights and some adjustable dumbells and a good plain flat bench. I always wanted my own gym!

I did see that bench with a squat rack. I was really eyeing it! I might hold out for more tho. If it doesn't come to pass, well I will go back to it!

I am so afraid of losing them. I have this big honkin diamond ring I can't wear and made DH buy me a plain one. But eventually the diamond will go back on.

They do look at you weirdly. I can't wait until I am less klutzy as in jackknives LOL. How can you show off with those?

I just love to move those pins down for the lat raise after someone tho. I am bad

Hi Kelly-

I just checked out your log. I love your title! Good luck on reaching your goals.
I've started on putting together a home gym and it is nice not to have to go anywhere or compete with other people for the equipment. I think my boyfriend was hoping to surprise me with building a rack (he's a welder) but he's been working a million hours lately. Hopefully its still in the works.

Hey Leah, Thanks for stopping by!

My hubby knows welding too but when I asked him he is just too busy! Darn that would be a heck of a rack! It would weigh 4 tons LOL!

Today I have THEE worst headache ever! I don't like them. I don't get them. I hate them.

Knees doing good. NO DOMS! How amazing is that? I worked hard too!

Well the consesus is no rings no glove, they were SO cute... can't use chalk in our gym they wouldn't know what it was! Mess up the carpets...

Getting my head to wrap around eats again. That protein thing is so hard for me. I have to get 250 g's. That is not $250,000.00 but it might as well be! I am not no giant meat eater. I am more like a horse, eating a bucket of oats. Hmmmmm that didn't sound too good.

But anyway I am going to have to do something about the eats. It really does not make sense that I am not getting anywhere faster being obese and all. It is not like I am down to the last pounds of fat or nothing! So I am wondering if I clean it up more than I have.

ANYHOO I am not wanting to be that disciplined since I get discouraged working so hard and seeming like nothing is happening. I don't want that to happen. It happens enough already! I really would like to lose some weight... any weight hello!

I am preachin to the choir LOL! Okay we all know we ain't going to dump much weight doing this. I might as well settle down now.

Some one some where else was talking about how a friend weighed the same and wore a size 18 at about 189. OHHHH how I wish I was 189. That would get me into a 12! I am almost an 18 now! I squidged up to a 20W in jeans this fall, but that is coming off. My dress pants falling off, jeans a bit slower. Just a few more lbs. I can get into 18's weighing 235 and small 18's at 225lbs.

Kelly:
Do you use protein powder? At about 125 cals per serving you get 22+gms protein (depending on brands). I like EAS whey and Optimum Nutrition Casein. But I haven't bought a lot of others either. I try to keep them low carb so I can add carbs myself when I need them.

I just finished a bowl of oats, protein powder & blueberries as pre-workout this morning (we're doing kickboxing!)

You'll get there; trust me. It's hard work but worth it. I used to weigh 195 --and that was when the "baby" was 3 so I had no excuses any longer. I'm down to 145 right now and working on the last few (I got much lower than that, built up some muscle & fat & am trying to bring it all together now) Just stick with it; you'll shine!

Hi Brenda!

OH yeah, protein powder and me LOL. I eat oats whey PB and cocoa for breakfast. I am just going have to eat hunks of meat for lunch and dinner. I was trying to spread it out but I hate eating meat 6x a day!

Even with whey twice! I put whey in yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal, shakes pancakes LOL!

AHHHHHH! Just learning to eat differently LOL!

I get sooo messed up in my head with scales and eating it is SO stupid. I need to just focus on my workouts and just eat well. Been reading all the good toss the scales articles around. I have to POUND that into my head.

I am weary of numbers and philosphies on eating.

I KNOW something is changing. I was wishin it would hurry up so I could get into my smaller clothes that are waiting patiently for me .

All my summer clothes are smaller than I am right now. I wanted to lose an equivalent of 15 lbs more before summer.

Sigh. I just have to keep moving past those barriers. Everything gets in my way some weeks.

Just keep plugging along.

Hi Kelly! I'm new to the forum & NROL. But I wanted to check in with you and say hello, especially since you seem to be the only person on here trying to lose anywhere near as much weight as me. :-) And even then I've still got farther to go than you. Point is, keep up the good work! And reading your log today served as a little extra inspiration for me!

Thanks and good luck!

Hey Kelly, welcome to logging and to your new goals. Make small changes each week to your diet and they will sink in. That is the thing we all do wrong with this sort of thing. We try to get everything to change right away. If you want things to go as fast as possible you need to consider logging your current food intake into a program so that you can see your macros and habits.

Hey Kelly-

I hate weighing myself - I always get discouraged. There are some people on this forum that track their weight daily and do trending with spreadsheets and stuff - I am not one of them! I finally quit weighing myself daily a few days after Halloween. I didn't like what I weighed and I was depressed and pissed at how hard I felt I had been working for nothing. I ate about 20 mini candy bars that were lying around the lunch room that day. After that I didn't weigh myself for a month or count any food. I just tried to focus on eating the right foods and sort of healing those body self-hatred feelings.

I've been tracking closely over the last few months, but still only weighing once a month.

HI!! Semper FI! Hoooaaahh and all that. I have been reading your log. Good stuff. Yep bit off more than I can chew. I have a problem with that LOL! I have a new program yay! My natural habits when I am trying to eat right, meaning eat well but not like count everything? I measure things so I know, habit now and all. My macros run about 40 carb/30 pro/30fat. And that is really really comfy for me. It is the upping the protein that zaps my resolve. I am going to leave well enough alone!

That seems the best way for me too. STAY AWAY FROM THE SCALE!
I was tracking once a week. No pressure, just the facts ma'am and I was really fine with that.

I just wanted everything to hurry up ya know?

Thanks for the encouragment. It was a blah day today.

GOOD NEWS! My son for therapy NEEDS to workout for 2 years after chemo. SOOOO DH calls me at the gym ( bad timing hon) and says he thinks we might want to go ahead and buy that gym now instead of later. WOO HOOO am I psychic or what LOL!

Now I have to make sure I know what I wanttttt!

Default Oh GAWD! Progress Pics

Well here is my progress pics with my ugly on clearance pink elephant shorts that are 2 sizes too small. It seemed like a good idea at the time LOL! It does show lumps and bumps tee hee . AND I just figured out a little bit on how to stick these together. Very imperfect and my little kids take the photos. They cut me off at the knees today . At least they were not laughing hysterically this time!

I started NROL4W 1-28-08. I have been derailed quite a few times. Definitely imperfect and in Jan I was very sick for a week and a half. So this is half @$$ed results here!

Stats for 12-31-07 2-1-08 3-1-08

Weight 255.5/253/250.8
Bust 47.25/46.5/46
Ribs 39/38.5/38
waist 41.75/40.5/39.5
bellybutton 47/ 46.5/45
lower abs 51.25/50.5/49.25
Butt 51.5/50.25/50
Thighs 51.5/50.25/49.5

Thoughts.... AHHHHHHH! I feel much better now. Well consistency and persistence is paying off. By golly they are right!

My eats? I am soooo flippy floppy. I do what I don't want to do and don't do what I want to do LOL!

I am a WHOLE BUNCH better than I was at the first of the year.

Since I started working out, it is imcomparable!

I have only made it to Stage 1 workout 9 next week with all these stupid little barriers. I wonder what would happen if I had a good run?

Ever since I posted those pics I have been bummed. I am just a smaller version of myself. Not what I had hoped for. I have to learn my new logging program. I went with Crosstrainer 6. There is a learning curve.

Just waiting for more steam to go ahead and do this.

There is SUCH a tempation to do this the traditional way of dieting when results are a long time coming. I just hope and pray I can stick this out. The only thing that keeps me going is that I like to train. So something has got to happen sometime right? I hope so.

I have been clinically obese for over 16 years. I really would not like to have that catagory attached to my name any longer. It would be fabulous to walk into the doctor's office and have them exclaim, my goodness look how good you look! Your numbers are perfect!

It is the battle of getting from point A to point B and the experiment of what works. I don't have time for things that don't work including things that I won't stick too.

I wish we would just know what would work for our body and just do it. In a perfect world huh?

Unfortunately, it's all part of the journey. I know the frustration and the "maybe I should just take the average path to weight loss" but don't be average! Be the best you can and don't beat yourself up. You've got knowledge working for you so you know that lifting and dieting appropriately can do it for you. Hang in there and give it time. In no time you'll be searching clearance ranks for SMALLER pink shorts!

How often do you have feeds like this? Was it order out or at a resturant? What did you eat?

I had a cheat meal or rather a couple of cheat days since I have been really down. But they have been the only ones since Jan 1. I usually don't go over board. And only have something on the weekend that won't make things go haywire.

I had take out chinese from a former fav restaurant. I had egg roll innard with half the outer. I had wonton soup with some fried something or other in it (used to like em) Some brown rice of my own and a couple of hunks of almond chicken with some gravy. I didn't finish. By hunks I mean about a portion of 2" x 3" total. That was it. They changed owners.

Man I can't eat that greasy stuff anymore.

I'm addicted to sesame chicken and crab rangoon.

Funny story. I work in IT operations, monitoring my company's global assets. We have a large operation in China, with multiple sites. I've gotten to talking to a few on a regular basis via IMs. Anyway, one told me he was going out to lunch soon and I told him I had chinese food the night before: sesame chicken and crab rangoon.

He asked me, "what's that?"

I guess what we call Chinese food, really isn't.

Oh the owner of this restaurant told us that they have to "americanize" the food for our tastes. That we would not even recognize it in it's original form!

My absolute FAV is Shrimps in Lobster Sauce. Restaurant closed down where it was my fav.
I like Mongolian Beef also (mild) LOL. We don't happen to frequent the place that has the best tho.

I wonder what "real" chinese food tastes like??

Evidently it quacks or moo's right before you eat it. I heard that you go pick your fresh food in the market and take it to the restaurant for them to prepare it. I don't know if that is only some places or common. It surely is different over there!

Well I had a 'small" victory this morning. I had just changed scales to a digital scale. No not tanita, people gave too many bad reviews. Anyhoo I just wanted numbers I could see in the morning. My other scale a Health o meter was perfectly coordinated to my bathroom being beige and cream. Uh so are the numbers. The numbers blended in too well.

So I get this new scale. And I think it is 2 lbs off, less. So I have been adding 2 lbs to the number I started with at the beginning of the year. Well DH aka Bob says it is the same!

So I go check this morning, it is the same. Hmm dropped 2 lbs without knowing it.

Still grumpy. Could be just me hmmm?

Starting logging with Crosstrainer 6 software today.

I am a software junkie, usually in the art dept. I can't seem to use any of it very well since the learning curve is off the chart. But I sure have fun with it. Well my CorelDraw is not fun, but it has potential all locked up in there! LOL

I have to get back to my websites and update them. My biz partner is in Singapore this week for church having a 85-90 degree blast

When she gets back we will put in an application for a juried art show.

This makes me very nervous. You know being judged and all. I hope I can keep up with the work that entails and this workout program. We are going to see very soon!
