There's also some good mobility work as Cressey demoed in his article on best uses for the smith.

It's sort of like doing barbell curls on the smith. Bipennate claimed he saw couple frat boys doing just that at his university gym.

I cannot imagine ANY benefit to doing rows on a smith machine. Ask your trainer why he is having you use the smith machine, and see if he comes up with anything that makes sense. Post a question in the training forum and you will get an avalanche of people warning you against it.

So to continue beating the horse....

Anyway, good work, look for some more regular posts.:)

When the head gets better ... yeah.

And so you know, I'm working in a new trainer, so I don't always like to question what he says right away. I hesitate to use the Smith machine on most occasions, simply because I prefer working with free weights. I generally balk at most machines for that simple reason, but he does have me on a few.
Most of the time, I've been using the Oly bar for these bent-over rows but that last time I did use the Smith rack.
Keep in mind, I may be a noob to the forum but not to the gym. That, however, doesn't mean I don't appreciate the advice.
Because I do.

My apologies, hope I did not sound condescending - not my intent. Again, my apologies.

Not at all ... most appreciated. That young whippersnapper never did respond to the email I sent him, asking him why on the Smith. I'll have to smack him upside the head this weekend.

Am going to go and do a light cycle and maybe a few weights, pending conditions.

How's the head?...any headaches or dizziness? easy does it...you don't want to kiss the mat at the gym.

A chinook rolled into yesterday, screwing with the barometric pressure which screws with my head anyway, concussion or no.

I won't be going near the gym, except for maybe candlelight yoga on Thursday, while this arc is hanging.

Sucks being injured. I'm rehabbing from a torn calf muscle and it pisses me off that I can't go all out on the workouts.

Patience grasshopper. Relax and watch Paradise Hotel 2 or Celebrity Rehab!

Still no reply? When do you meet with him again?

And I, too, hope I didn't offend you with the questioning... sometimes I am very skeptical of gym trainers, but that's really only because the trainers at my gym seem... not that good (I was trying to think of a way to say that nicely, but I'm tired, and I can't).

Read about your concussion in your Other forum thread. Hope you're doing ok - it sounds like you're coming to a really difficult fork in the road.

Sorry, guys. Missed your questions while I've been pouting about not being able to do anything.

I haven't heard back from my trainer, no, and that means I get to kick his ass when I go back tomorrow. Yes, I've been feeling pretty spry the last few days. So I'm going in after work tomorrow to test out the head. A little light stuff on the elliptical and then I'll see if I'm OK to lift some light weights. I promise I'll be mindful of my condition.

And Willie, Afterburn is Cosgrove's interval training formula. I like it ... I was big into it last spring before I broke my hand and I was seeing huge results.

Wheee hooo ... first night back. Made it through 15 on the elliptical and felt pretty good so I powered on. Got a little bit woozy on the crunches, suppose it was just a little leftover vertigo.

Instead of the 4x3 set of heavy squats (typically 185), I did a progressive 4 x fatigue, starting at 135 and just added 10 every set.
Supersetted with weighted fitball crunches.
Then 4 x fatigue assisted pullups and 4 x fatigue inverted pushups.

As for the bentover rows on the Smith, J.L. said it was just for some variety, because he knows about my gym ADHD ... asked if it was all right if I did them on the Oly bar and he said, 'do 'em however you want, just get 'em done.'

All righty then ...

Oh ... and the good Lord willing ... please, no more setbacks. It's been a rough 12 months on my body ...

Crap, did I just jinx myself?

This is either another hit to the head, she's on some heavy drugs in general (legal or not) or she's decided to wax poetic.

I know of two types:

The Native American.
The twin roter helicoptor with the high crash ratio.

Which one are you refering to?

Ah, a little google goes a long way.
