Hey Gabe, hang in there. You'll be back to your old training soon. I know you've been doing some walking on the treadmill and such, but have you done any outdoor walking at all? I've dropped cardio from my program completely and have substituted outdoor easy walking as I'm dieting right now and need to keep my activity level up. I hated it at first, but now I really really enjoy it. I put on my iPod and walk around the neighborhood, enjoy the weather and actually feel quite invigorated afterwards. Try it!

I'm with you. I actually spend a decent amount of time outside doing other stuff I don't see why I can't add walking. Most of it is kid related but hey! Everyone needs an excuse. For example. Saturday we went about an hour outside of town and went fishing for a cub scout achievement. Then we went to the oldest working cotton gin in the US and toured it. Then we rushed home and went to baseball practice. On Sunday, I cheated and played about twenty minutes of shortstop during batting practice with my son's little league team. My son was at third so we had a good time. No 8 yr old can get past me!

I also did a little swinging on he swing with my daughter. Good times. The weather was awesome. It was a full day and weekend. I was in bed by 9:45.

I took Jill's advice and went walking around the neighborhood. It was mainly out of necessity but I did try something new. I found that I walk further than I normally would by being outside than on the treadmill. At least the time went by faster. I did 23 minutes in my neighborhood.

Yay! It's not quite as boring walking outside either, is it?

I completely agree. It was not nearly as boring. My mind wandered a bit. I solved a few of the worlds problems but also got some great ideas for the house.

Walking outside is SO much better. On a treadmill it's just plodding along until the time's up and you can get off. Outside, you can keep going, but you still have to get yourself back home.

I walked up and down the Reliant Center for about 5 hours yesterday at a trade show. Holy sh*t, my legs were tired. Who would have thought the walking up and down each row was going to be such a killer. It was a good show. I saw a lot of old friends and met some new ones.

As someone who has worn one of those newfangled Bodybuggs, I can tell you that walking burns about as much as a vigorous olympic weightlifting workout. Surprisingly effective if you are looking to burn extra calories while not putting too much stress on the body.

I find tradeshows excruciating because they don't have any padding under the carpeting so you're basically walking on hard concrete all day.

I agree with that. Nice observation. I just noticed that I have a bit of DOMS. Go figure.

The kids are half the reason I stay active. Most little league teams would frown on a grown man walking on to play shortstop.

I'm hoping that the Dr. will release me this Friday. I doubt it but we'll see.

That will be six weeks right? Why wouldn't she release you? Are you still having pain/problems?

She wanted me to wait 8 because I have a tendency to over do it. I will be able to play golf at 6 weeks. Now I wish I played golf. I'm hoping I'll be able to swim. Then I'll using the 2 weeks of swimming as a break in.

So when you get cleared, do you have a plan? How will you get back into it without over-doing it?
