awesome progress, Gabe. I could tell you had visibly put on weight (in a good way) just between our times at lunch the past couple of months.

Again, best of luck tomorrow

Is frito pie where you pour chili into the little bag of fritos? I love that.

I'll be thinking about you. You've been strong, so I know you'll do well. Be back soon.

That's the one. Throw some jalapeños and some shredded cheddar on there and you have a delicacy in some small foreign countries.

RedWifey and I visited Gabe this afternoon and he's doing well. He was wearing his Astros hat and watching baseball's opening day action, so you know he wasn't too miserable.

He did indeed overdo it a bit on his workouts, causing a hernia at some point over the past few weeks. They repaired it during surgery, but it meant a longer incision and some additional healing time. He was already walking around today, though, so he hasn't totally wussed out. He'll be in the hospital for 4-5 more days, then back home from there. He's got about six weeks before he can lift or throw a baseball again.

In related news, gas is at $3.30 per gallon. And if you're wondering why, then remember that Deserve is a consultant in the oil/gas industry, and right now he's getting paid to lay in bed, push the button on his morphine drip, watch baseball and read sci-fi. So when you fill up at the tank this week, think of Gabe.

Oh yeah, and before he turned temporarily dumb and tried that insane ab workout recently, somebody gave him advice in this thread. Who was that? Oh yeah, it was me:

All this empathy has got me choking up, so I'll stop there.

Don't mention it, gang. The whole thing was very self-serving on my part. You see, I took him the four-book Hyperion series by Dan Simmons, which was highly recommended by JP. But when Gabe found out I haven't read them yet either, he volunteered to pass the books to me when he's done.

So in the end I got two hours off work and bought books for myself.

We also got to meet Gabe's dad, which was cool. Even when your son is in his 30s, you never stop being a dad just looking out for your boy. That was evident in the hospital room.

They released me from the hospital yesterday. I am doing great. All my systems fired up which is a separate set of stories and I am whole again. It was awesome having the Red's visit me. I knew I would have to eat crow and tell them how right they were and wrong I was for over doing it but it was so much fun seeing them. I wish we could have visited longer but they had a real life to get back to. Jamie and Michael are 2 of the nicest and kind hearted people I know and I'm proud to call them friends.

Because of my over zealousness I won't be touching a weight for several months. In 6 weeks I can play golf but it will be another 2- 4 weeks after that to move a weight. It makes me wish I played golf.

Over all I am doing great. I spend a lot of time resting which is exactly what I'm supposed to do. I can't screw up this recovery. There is no way I'm letting them cut me open again.
