Ok, I just finally saw your freaking pictures and you look amazing! Great job, you are totally leaning out and I can see a BIG difference in the February to May pictures. You are my hero. I only wish I could check into Camp Lori for a month, I bet you could totally help me get closer to where I should be. Shoot, 2 weeks would be good.

Sheesh, woman! Is the word "rest" even in your vocabulary? Glad to read about the improved energy!!

LMAO!
I'm sticking to the old adage about "Making hay while the sun shines." Figure I should take advantage of the high-energy/motivation combo., PLUS I'm going next week for the BF% testing with Ginger and I want to trade every bit of fat for muscle mass I can. . .every .00001% of lean muscle I can eek out will be worth it.

Damn, I need you just to move in and keep me feeling good about myself, thank you SO much! Since you and I are next-door neighbors in Self-Criticism Village, I have to reply that those shorts gave me a weird "muffiny" thing going on that I really didn't see as that tragic until I uploaded those photos.
You, my friend, are welcome to check into Camp Lori any day you please! LOL I'll bet I could even figure out a way to waive the training fees.
So, today I went with my 2 sisters and Mom for a girls' outing at the local Day Spa. I got a much-needed pedicure and a 90 minute Shiatsu (sp?) massage and OH MY GOD! This is the first massage I have received outside of my husband's half-assed attempts since I began seriously weight-training, and it was shocking how full of knots I was. Every muscle group in my body was jumping like kittens wrestling in a burlap sack! The best way I can describe it is Exsquisite Pain & Torture. I'm praying I wake up tomorrow feeling a hell of a lot better than I do right now because I ache to high heavens. The masseuse was very cool, has been doing this for almost 19 years, and there was a very cool energy during the session. It definitely made me realize what a precious reward this was and I'm already re-booked for 2 more sessions over the next 8 weeks. I have to be totally honest and admit that the big "feel-good" part of the whole thing was talking with him and hearing him positively comment on my muscle development. We were able to talk at great lengths about specific exercises and the desired effect on targeted muscles, and it was really refreshing to meet someone (outside of you all here!) that admires that kind of physique and appreciates what it takes to get there.
So, . . .painful--Hell to the Yes!! But, I think it will have a good therapeutic effect, especially after I get off here and go pour myself a big ol' glass of wine.
*OH, and I do know the meaning of the word rest ( Diane & Karla) and enacted that policy today. Ate a little less than usual to compensate and had a delightful mental and physical day of rest.
Back to the torture chamber tomorrow, it's heavy-HIIT day! YAY!!
Man, I woke up today and still feel achey all over from the massage yesterday. As the day has gone on, it has gotten better, but I figured it would be a good day to avoid any weights. I hadn't planned on doing much, so it really wasn't a big deal.
It is so beautiful here today! A perfect Spring day, clear skies, bright sunshine and an even 70 degrees--made me dileriously happy that I had pre-ordained this to be a cardio day!
Friday Workout:
Warmed up with some 1/2 squats, arm circles, general all-over stretching for a good 4-5 minutes then hit the open road!
Jogged 1.2 miles to the nearby school, walked 1 lap on the track, then did sprint intervals every 100 meters for a total of 16.
Ran bleachers, which was a nice change but got quite fatiguing very quickly! Started out with a set of 25 up & down, went back down to the track, walked 1 more lap, then hit the bleachers for another 20 "laps". Walked 1 lap, ran 15 bleacher laps, walked 1, ran 10 bleacher laps, then did a med.-paced lap around the track and ran back up into the stands for the final 5 bleacher laps. Walked around the parking lot for about 10 minutes to cool down a little, then jogged back home.
Abs:
Frog Crunches-2x20
Bicycles-2x50
Forearm Plank-2x75 seconds
*Thank God I did abs before I went outside, I don't think they would have gotten done had I waited until after!
You've convinced me...it's time to sign up for a massage! I've been thinking it would be a good thing but haven't had the uumph to do it. I'm planning on it this week!

GREAT workout!!!
Thanks! Just make sure you go into the deep-tissue/Shiatsu massage knowing that you will be a little sore for about 36 hours. BUT, once that soreness subsides, it feels great. I have a noticeable difference in my flexibility and also felt a lot looser while I was running. A wonderful thing, ideed!
Wow, you are such a bad influence on me. I'm now wanting to go get a massage. I've never had a "real" one, never wanted one... until now. I'll tell them to send my bill to you, k?

Ahhh, a massage virgin! You won't know how you lived without it. I used to get them every couple months and just stopped doing it more out of time management than anything else. (or lack thereof )
Of all the people that deserve it, it's the women and men here that push our bodies to unbelieveable levels that can truly appreciate the indulgent value. You should drop the hint to that awesome hubby of yours that a Gift cert. to the local day spa would be a wonderful gift. LOL
A good, professional massage really is a nice treat. Gets all the knots out and loosens up the muscles. The company I work for used to have a massage therapist come in and do chair massages every Thursday. I had a weekly appointment, but she has since moved from the area, and there's no replacement as of yet.

^^Word, Tom. Hope you get a replacement therapist in soon, once you get hooked it almost takes rehab to get over!

Well, don't have much to post today. Decided to go out with some friends Saturday night and forgot that I can't drink like I did 90-some odd pounds ago. My scale is a cruel bastard and I'm nursing a 2-day hangover. I attempted some measley work today and did manage some semi-heavy upper body sets: Curls, Supine Tricep drops, Shoulder/Chest Presses, Rows, and some ab work, but I didn't have the strength to really work at weights I should have. On the cardio front, I broke into a slow trot and had to quickly abort after my brain threatened to erupt within my skull. I'm praying to the fitness Godesses that tomorrow I wake up with the energy of an army and can make up for some bad decision-making and a lost opportunity of a workout. I'm planning a Tuesday filled with physical extremes and will relish any ounce of pain that replaces this awful vodka-induced FUBAR thing I'm rockin' right now.
thanks for the reminder: the massage therapy students are coming to our offices this Friday - I need to remember to sign up tomorrow - I missed out last time. It's amazing what just 10-15 mins can accomplish.
sorry - no help on the hangover though - just sympathy -
Thanks Sugar!! It's a GORGEOUS day here, and even through it being a little hectic, it has been a pretty dang good day!
I figure this weekend will be the best gift!
Okay, so the hangover finally departed on Tuesday and I definitely got out and busted my ass. It's beautiful here today and I'm just waiting for Geno to come home and take me to dinner. A win-win!
Tuesday Workout:
One-legged DB Rows-2x20e x 20
Bicep Curls-1x15x17.5, 1x10x20
Incline DB Chest Press-1x15x25, 1x10x30
Tricep Press-Down-1x15x30, 1x8x35
Arnold Press-1x15x20, 1x7x25
Mixed-Grip Push-up-2x15xBW
WG Lat. Pull-down-1x15x60, 1x8x70
Rear Split Squats-2x15e x 20
Hack Squats-2x20x30
Pilates 100 (on reformer)-2x
Side Plank-2x60 secs. each side
Bicycles-2x50
Hanging Leg Raise-2x24 total
My sister discovered this hellish set of stairs, so we drove over there and did some serious stair running. It is this creepy concrete set that runs up a giant hill and there's 12 flights with 10 steps per flight. In total, we ran 15 laps with breaks in between of walking, lunging up the hill, and trying to put out the fire in our quads! High HR noted was 172, which for me is really dang high.
Wednesday Workout:
Got outside and enjoyed the beautiful morning doing some upper body work with resistance bands wrapped around a tree. (broke two, not because of strength but bad judgement in placement) Did some rows, curls, chest presses. Didn't count, just did all exercises to failure. Did side lunges up and down the driveway 4x, pendulum lunges 2x, and ran 3 laps doing high knees w/ankle weights and 3 laps doing alt. rear leg extensions. During my leg work, carried an 8-lb. medicine ball in various positions.
Abs: Russian Incline Twists: 2x30 total x 10 lb. m.b.
Reverse Crunch: 2x20x10 lb. m.b.
Side Crunch w/Leg Raise: 2x15e x BW
Forearm Plank: 1x2 mins. 23 secs.
Got back out this afternoon for some sprints (with the same evil sister who found the stairs). We ran 16 100-yard sprints with 150 yards of walking recovery. Came back to the house and finished up with 10 minutes of punching a heavy bag.
Holy crap on the stairs!!! I would DIE. I think you win for most "fit" or possibly craziest on the board.
LMFAO! I appreciate that compliment. I really am a masochist, but get a huge rush of accomplishment pushing myself through grueling stuff like that. Things like the stairs are definitely one of those things that has to be limited to once a week or so, otherwise my legs might just fall off. Whenever I'm tempted to stop before finishing my pre-determined number of intervals, I always think about people with physical issues or who are missing limbs and crank out those "last few" in honor of those who can't. A bit over-dramatic, but it works for me.

Thanks Girls!!!! It was a really nice birthday!
That's too funny--he hears that all the time! His name is really Eugene, but that just sounds completely dorky, so I'm quite glad he had adopted the cooler moniker of "Geno". Now, if only he were a big strapping Italian fellow. . . . .
My dad's name is Eugene, but he goes by Gene. But, throughout the years, I've heard some of his buddys call him Geno, too! Funny....I was picturing your Geno as Italian, as well.
Good luck and have fun with the testing tomorrow. I'll be doing my bodpod BF measurement at the same time, roughly, as you guys!

Sometimes I imagine Geno is Italian. LOL! He's a big German, I tease him that he looks frighteningly like one of those "Aryan Brotherhood" characters you see in prison movies.
That is cool that you are getting tested tomorrow also-good luck with everything! Can't wait to see your results!!
Well, just getting on here to post the results of my testing that I had taken with Ginger last Friday. I forgot my papers at home, but wanted to get some stats. up to keep me in line!
The only body fat testing I have undergone before this was skinfold, and one of those electronic scales that "tells" you where you are. I have to say that undergoing the whole experience with Ginger was awesome. Not only being able to compare results with someone else who is like-fitness minded, but even moreso, being able to share the whole thing with my best friend! (the drinks & dancing later was also pretty righteous!)
Body Fat-22.1% 120 lbs. lean weight/34 lbs. fat (was up a few pounds, but don't think that really affected my BF% much.)
VO2 Max-59.7
I am also a carb burner!! YAY! Bring on the breads! I don't burn fat very efficiently, just at a rate of 4 grams per 11.7, but I also learned what range I need to stay in for more efficient workouts. My target HR zone is 121-141 BPM, which was an unbelieveable surprise and will probably keep me from the heart-pounding sprints quite as often. Heck, if I can burn consistent fat by walking 4mph at a 6% incline, why not? The woman who did our testing was very cool and really took a lot of time explaining what the test values represented and ways to improve my bodies' performance and efficiency.
I plan on going back in about 3 months for some follow-up, especially on the body fat. I'm really happy with my results, but would dearly love to be around 19%BF, so with some focus I should be able to get there. I just don't think I would be very happy with my appearance if I got much lower than that as I have a really broad rib cage that protudes. I want to look lean and mean, but sporting protuding bones isn't at all what I'm going for.
Had an ass-kicking workout with Ginger's trainer later that afternoon that has literally left me torn up to the point of some tears. I don't really train my lower-body with heavy weights much any more, so getting through the workout with him was quite difficult. I give Ginger mad props for the training she is capable of--I knew she was a Rock Star, but I didn't know she was a Hall of Fame Rock Star! Humbling, indeed. I'm under Doctor's orders to abstain from any activity until at least Friday, so I will be feebly climbing back on the workout horse this weekend. Until then, I'm just going to watch my diet and enjoy a bit of a time off.
I did get a new badass HR monitor, and it is just too cool. I think I'm going to take advantage of my time off and read up on the manual and actually figure out how to use the thing!
Great! Thanks for posting your results. Do you have a comparison of BF vs the caliper or electronically? I am thinking that calipers and bioimpedence are measuring LOWER than when you have it measured the "right" way. Ginger's results seem to prove my theory. Just curious.......

I am so bummed I didn't get to do mine.
I was just reading your log about poor little Sophie-glad to hear she is feeling better, but that is a real bummer about your testing having to be postponed.
The last time I had my BF tested with calipers, I was given a percentage of 28%, but this was about 8 months ago and I would have to guess that it was a good bit higher than that actually. The last time I had it measured electronically, the scale read 34% and that was in September 2007. That was probably closer to accurate than the calipers, oddly enough, as it was a cheapie scale and I would have figured it was way off base. The next time I go in, I plan on getting a skinfold test done just before so I have some real comparison.
Wow that's really cool that you can get all that from the bodpod reading! Very interesting stuff! When I start making money maybe I'll schedule one... it would be good stuff to know.
Ooh, I just found out that the nearest one is about three hours from here, in the same area as the running store I want to go to this fall. That would be so cool to do! Do you mind sharing how much it costs? If not, no biggie as I'll find out once I contact them.
