Leah, you're doing so well that you've got me considering paying a PT to keep me on track, LOL. Okay, I'm not there yet, but I am really excited for you. Did you get your foam roller-ing exercises from Leigh or from somewhere else? I think I need to start doing some of that, at least, to work on mobility, etc.

Actually, all a PT does is give you the program, you're responsible for keeping yourself on track......Leigh gives us specific foam rolling exercises to do besed on our needs, but if you look on youtube and enter the world foam rolling you'll see a lot of stuff about it.

I know you've got a specific reason for needing to back off for now, and I completely understand it. Just know that if your instructor notices a drop-off in intensity or power or speed, he may say something and/or make you hit harder. Instructors tend to do that.

Hmm you might be right. Hopefully the protein shake will help me. And kicking and punching hard is fun too!

Hey Paula -
Well the yoga didn't happen because I was too tired. And I am actually supposed to fit the weights in on 1500 cal days, so now I know better.

Hey Karen - At least for me, there is definitely the feeling that I plunked down the money and now I have to take this super seriously! Leigh has some foam rolling exercises in her info she gave me. I also took a bunch from Maximum Strength.

Thanks Marty! I've been thinking that too, my end of challenge pics should show some serious changes.

Good Morning to you too, although I'm a day late!
Last night we ended up skipping martial arts class since Shawn wanted to go to get some new work boots. Then he started throwing out remarks about how all I care about is my program and I'm ignoring him. The combination of that, work stress and being hungry and tired had me about ready to melt down, which he doesn't take well, so I sent him after the boots by himself and did my stretching and a yoga DVD. I was feeling better when he got back and we talked, but I still feel frustrated. I just start thinking what more does everyone want from me: Shawn, boss, co-workers. I'm putting forth just about everything I've got to give.
So I am trying to think about how I can be more efficient and move things around yet again. I got my latest Real Simple magazine, which has an article about how to take back your free time. I skimmed it, but maybe I'll read it more carefully tonight and try to follow some of the suggestions. I've stopped at the store almost every night this week on the way home for something I've forgotten or when I spontaneously decided to cook something different. I have to quit that. I am making an anal retentive menu for the entire week, with a grocery list, and I'm going to buy everything this weekend and if I don't have something I'll just do without it until next week. And I'm going to get up earlier and do my stretching before work so when I get home I can spend the evening paying attention to Shawn. Of course by then, he'll be on to some project of his own and will want to know why I'm bugging him.
Today: 156.4
Food plan: 1500 cal day
Breakfast: oatmeal w/blueberries & brown sugar
Morning snack: 1 slice pb toast
Lunch: huge salad w/tomatoes, chicken breast, blue cheese dressing, mushrooms, and pepper strips
Afternoon snack: cottage cheese and peaches
Dinner: broiled tilapia parm and roasted asparagus
PM snack: 1 scoop prot w/ice & water
I need to do something this evening but I don't know if we're hitting another martial arts class, or going to the Y to play racquetball or I will take a walk.

Leah, I so feel your pain here. Being pulled a thousand directions gets so much harder when we have our own personal goal to meet. It is so easy to feel overstretched. I'm sorry you had a rough day yesterday!

I'll admit that I don't have the time issues that others do. However, planning (and sticking to) your meals for the weeks are almost certainly going to help. I've even noticed recently that I mainly have uncooked meats in the freezer. There's very little ready to go stuff, which is going to be a problem in the fall, and even annoying some nights when I'm not planning the next day until very late.
So planning your meals should help a little. I'm not so sure about the early mornings though. See how it goes, but with too little sleep you might find yourself fading when he wants to do things in the evenings.

Aw, man, Leah. That being pulled in a thousand directions thing bites bad. Sometimes, we just need to climb the nearest high building and get in touch with our inner sniper. Not literally, of course.

Thanks for understanding mel! Maybe part of it is my own expectations for myself. That was one thing it mentioned in that article - you don't have to do everything perfectly, just be okay with doing some things adequately.

Hey Anne -
You are my hero when it comes to planning meals. I know you're going to do equally well when you go back to school.
Maybe you're right that cutting corners in the sleep department will not work too well. It tends to leave me not my most pleasant self.

Diane you crack me up!
I am feeling a bit calmer now. I spent some time this morning sitting here paralyzed by all the things on my list and not doing anything, but I'm a bit better now. Friday afternoons are always good for paperwork because it takes little brain power and makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something.
Tomorrow is my next check-in with Leigh. I'm pretty excited. I decided I am not going to stress if I do any cardio tonight or not. I am probably pushing the envelope on what I am supposed to be doing anyways.

Am I the only one who sees irony in this sentence?
But seriously Leah... it sucks to feel pulled and have so many demands that you have no time to catch your breath. Get enough sleep, and then look at your priorities. I bet you can eliminate some things, and streamline others (like the groceries)...
hugs...
