Man Diane I LOVE the heat but your kind of heat is making me sweat just reading about it. Here in Portland it is a very cool and dreary 50% day. We still have not yet really had any sort of summer yet. We had one week where the temps were a bit elevated but other than that pretty bleak. Great weather to run and exercise in though....

June Doom, Day 4
Starting Strength, Workout B - Squat: 5 x 5 x 70#. Felt good on these but my right knee was a bit wonky from sciatica pain.
- Press: 1 x 5 x 55#, 4 x 5 x 60#.
- Power clean:5 x 5 x 60#. Down to a knee start level this time. Did pretty good but need to work on the bar path and arm hang thing a bit. Will continue keep weight light until I've nailed form.
Walk x 45 minutes, 3.0 mph.
Stretch x 20 minutes.
Pool time x 1.5 hours constant movement.
Notes:
1. Did most of this stuff starting at 10 or so tonight because today just didn't go as planned. Bonus: temps were nice and cool at 88 degrees.
2. Back & neck still on the mend but feeling sciatica more. *sigh* Have decided on a fella to go see once we're rolling in the dough again. He's a chiro AND a PT and he has a full-time massage chick on staff. I've been to him once before for a quickie thing but will wait to see how we vibe. He's the only one in the area that's, as far as I can tell, got any real experience and training in something other than sit-on-your-ass-itis. Plus he lifts -- or at least he sure looks like he does.
3. Eats are shit. I end up hitting basic cals and protein kinda-sorta. But I'm going way too long without eating again. Gotta get that under control again.

Thanks! I agree but the pickin's around here are thin. I think I've found a promising new option, though! (Mentioned above.)

You are so stinking sweet! If I don't get to rob a bank soon, I may just have to take you up on that.

Oh, man, I'd kill for cool and dreary right now! I do love the heat but I love being a slug in the heat. Not so good for losing more lard. And it's only going to get hotter...

I have 1/2 dozen decent pairs of running socks but I do need more soon. They sure don't last long!

I don't know how you stand working out so long with temperatures like that, let alone when it gets hotter . Now, I'd really love for it to get above the current temps of 60, but I'm not looking forward to really hot, either. You're doing so well with your tweaking and sticking with it--I think I need to take lessons from you!
I hope you get to make the visit to the chiro/PT guy soon.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing.
Nice work, Diane. Your workouts are grueling.

Thanks! It's my own fault about the blisters. I felt them starting up and didn't stop to adjust anything or even slap on a band-aid. Duh.

Thanks! I usually don't mind the heat at all but, dang, it came on so late and fast this year that I didn't have time to gradually adjust to it. So now I'm stuck being a whiner. LOL

Oh, yeah, and yesterday's stuff:
June Doom, Day 5
Stretch x 20 minutes
Pool x 1 hour
Notes:
1. Yep, that was it. I ended up having to run all over the mountains for business stuff and had not much time left. I still could have gotten in the workouts but, once I got back, I was just sooooo not motivated at all. In fact, I laid down to stretch out my back and hips and promptly fell asleep. Sheesh.
2. I have to start getting some regular sleep again. I've slipped back into doing the 2-4 hours a night thing again. Not cool. I'm a lifelong insomniac (even as a kid) but had just started to get it under control this year. It's gotta get back under control so I'm going to start keeping a log of my sleep because, if it's staring at me on a list, it seems more important to me. I did end up sleeping 9.5 hours last night (and was still didn't want to get out of bed).

If you can tell me how you solve this problem, I'd appreciate it. Bob is a life long insomniac and then he wants to sleep all day the next day. We're trying to solve this issue.

Paula, what does he do different during the week vs. the weekend in order to make it through work every day? Or does he feel like sleeping all day at work, too?
Does he have a standard time he goes to bed or does it very every night?

Jane:
Bob's been like this since he was a kid. He still hasn't gone back to work since his dad died. He doesn't need to yet (He lives pretty frugally and has a good chunk of change saved). But a big part of the problem is that he can't get his brain to shut off. And the nights that he does manage to fall asleep at a decent time, many times he'll wake up early (after say 4 or 5 hours of sleep) sometimes he can get back to sleep, sometimes not. The flip side is that when he does sleep well, it's a total pain in the rear end to get him out of bed. He'll sleep for hours (I'm talking on the magnitude of 10-12 hours).
I'd settle for a happy medium.

Ahh I hate that! I use to be like that. I use to work at a job that was like 12 -15 hours a day. When I switched to a normal 8 hour day, I would stay up until like 2 am and have to be up at 6 am. Now I am in be by 9:30 and up at 5 am. Its important to get sleep.
Beer helps!!
