Gah.. that's no fun to have sick kids (and even be sick yourself) when loved ones are arriving soon.

To answer your question:

That's cool Espi ... can you use it to reliably predict your daily weight? How accurate is it?
Not at all.. now I remember why I ditched the method last time.
Not only does water fluctuations due to water intake & glycogen repletion/depletion mess things up, but girly hormones also have a big influence. Girly hormones just took over today & water wt shot up.
Never mind what taking an early or late 'dump' can do with BW.

So I ditched it again... it was fun for 1 day Like they say, the scale is a random number generator from day to day. Fortunately weekly/monthly trends ARE reliable.

Have a fun weekend hanging with your family--sounds like a good, relaxing weekend! Maybe the down-time will give your body some ammo. to ward off the March of the Mucus!

My mom and one of my bros are coming for a visit this weekend so that'll be 72 hours of lazy, food-filled fun. Might get in a little something workout-like tomorrow, though. All five kids all came down with sore throats and snots today and I figure I'm next.
Enjoy the visit with the family - sorry to hear all of the kiddos are sick and snotty!

I'm feeling better now (yay!) and relatives get shipped out tomorrow evening, then life can get back to normal.

Got a question I got to discussing this weekend, if anyone has any ideas:

Most people, I assume, work out in an air conditioned environment (except the obvious outdoor sports). Say you have two people, both doing the same workout with the same intensity, blah, blah, all variables the same EXCEPT that one does his/her workout in air conditioned comfort (72 degrees F?) and the other does his/her workout in the heat & humidity of summer (100 degrees F?). Does the non-a/c person burn more calories than the a/c person? I ask because we don't have an a/c and, believe me, summer workouts sure do feel a LOT tougher than the winter ones.

It doesn't really matter, I was just wondering as we got to discussing things this weekend (in the 101 degree F heat)...

Thanks for the info! However, I think it was either Julie or Wendy who asked about that? If I stumble across where they asked that, I'll point them over here. Still, good info for me, as well, since I also wondered.

Hmmm I was sure it was you who asked it. But never mind, I also answered it in Tom's journal.
Just to inform you again.. I gained nearly 2 kg (around 4lbs) in less than a week. It's been about the most I ever gained pre-ovulation, probably due to it being delayed a bit more than usual. Dunno why exactly. Didn't binge like in the last 2 months but also stopped cutting around day 14. It's been a constant cause of amusement to try & predict why & when this body is gaining or losing water weight.
I thought I had it nailed once I understood how much water hangs onto carbs.. also since at the time, girly hormones didn't swing as much.. but right now , these girl hormones are throwing me a curve ball (is that how yu call this?) Not to be deterred, just very amusing....

And also a very good reason to not trust daiy fluctuations, but as a woman to also disregard weekly fluctuations... the monthly ones DO tell us something. It's just boring to wait that long if you've just started tracking!

Diane, I definitely think you'd burn more calories in the heat than in ac. I think I'd die if I had to workout in the SC heat and humidity. I'm such a baby. I admire you for sticking with your workouts in spite of the challenge.

Hey, Diane, just pokin' my head in. I'm in S. CA, so it gets horrible here--the great thing about working out in the heat is that it definitely burns more calories as your body has to work twice as hard to maintain its internal temp--but more importantly your body will be accustomed to working harder so your cool workouts will be easier and you can do more. My observation, anyway. I hate working out in the heat. Not looking forward to it this year. Although it seems so far away because here it is almost June and it is overcast here and I have the heat on!

Bah. I'm so tired of the heat and it's only May. Guess it's time to start going nekkid 24/7.

Didn't do crap for workouts over the long weekend due to the visiting relatives and didn't do much for accurate food tracking, either. I did, however, try to remain mostly sane in my choices (and keep my protein up) and the scale has remained in a downward trend. Did some walking here and there as well as a hike up the hill and back down.

This week, I'm going to just go with some light stuff, a kinda-sorta rest week, to keep up some movement but allow time off before the June Doom starts and allow myself to get further used to the summer heat (that was rather sudden onset this year). I'll play it by ear, depending on how I feel, but at least will try to get in a walk every day, if for no other reason than to break in my new shoes (see below ).

Mom & bro pitched in and got me a gift card for the mall up in the city for my upcoming birthday -- the big 4-0. (I hate malls and shopping in any form but I wouldn't take cash when offered so they, being evil, put it in the mall gift card. ) I've been wearing the same $20 tennis shoes for the past 2-3 years and have a permanent, quarter-size blister on the ball of my right foot from them. I used them for everyday wear -- feeding critters, gardening, miscellaneous chores, mucking about in the rain and slop, as well as my running. They were my only pair of shoes because I was too cheap to buy a better pair that fit well.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to find shoes when you wear a women's size 11?? Holy crap. After a while, you just give up and go with whatever oddball crap size 11 is shoved in the back store room -- and are grateful for it. I browsed a few stores but Lady FootLocker happened to have 4 shoes in my size today. Woot! Now, not only do I have a long foot, I also have a skinny foot. Anything over size 9 or so is almost always in a wide. *sigh* But one of those four size-11 shoes fit -- not only fit but fit WELL. So incredibly cool. I have never had a shoe that actually fit me. I had a shoe-gasm right there in the mall! I can't even begin to describe it. It was amazing. Wow. These shoes are my sole-mates. *snicker*

Now to break them in and find out how they do for my running...

I try to stay away from zappo's...If I had $$$ I'd have a pair of athletic shoes for every day, every occasion, in every color, etc. But I am not so crazy about dress shoes....

Enjoy your summer, D.

I do!!! I wear an 11 too! I usually go to a specialty running store because they carry weird sizes and will even sell you two different shoes if your feet are different sizes. The guy there has me running in 11.5's.

I can't believe you had the same pair of running shoes for that long!!!!

Have you ever tried New Balance? A lot of their shoes are unisex (so a men's 9 = women's 11, I think) and they also do widths... I love 'em!

Glad you got new shoes... wow... I can't imagine the same runners for 3 years!!!

Diane, you MUST go to zappos.com next time you are searching for shoes. I just checked and there are 20 pages of just athletic shoes in a size 11. I buy lots of stuff there and shipping (and return shipping if they don't fit) are free. You can order 2 or 3 pair that you think you might like and send the ones that don't fit back. Voila!

fyi, most of the time it is recommended that you size up at least one size for running shoes from your street size.

Oh yeah! Zappos is the way to go. Sometimes I go shoe shopping and just write down all the ones I like, the sizes, prices, etc. THEN, I get them a Zappos! Free shipping, no sales tax.....LOVE ZAPPO'S!

That's great about the shoes! Good shoes make such a difference with running. I can feel it in my knees when I need new ones.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! When is it?
