Quickie drive-by logging:
Meant to do a run last night but passed out at 10:30 or so, then woke up at 4:30 unable to go back to sleep. Grrr. Was doing garden work today -- shovel, tiller, etc until 5 tonight, then in for a shower and raced off to town for much-needed grocery shopping (only to find out they're out of vital wheat gluten which was my primary reason for going in the first place), and just got back.
My hands are a bloody, blistery mess from today's work. My back is fried (I swear my tiller was made for midgets -- and it's a 5 hp rear tine big one -- just the handles are 1 freaking foot off of the ground) from fighting (in a bent-over position) the tiller on rocky, red clay all stupid day. I could barely hold the steering wheel on the town-trip tonight.
So, no workout again tonight. I'm off to pass out after I knock out the kids. Now where'd my sledge hammer go??

I've discovered that products with that added to it tend to make my tummy NOT happy!! We used to get these wraps all the time and I finally realized that every time I ate one for lunch I'd be bloated and miserable - checked the ingredients and the 2nd one was vital wheat gluten!

An interesting note:
This morning, I woke up hugely swollen! My hands, to be expected, were swollen. But my face looked like a giant marshmallow! Everything on my body was swollen, just puffy, water type of swelling but, wow. My face felt like it was going to explode. And I dropped 5 pounds since yesterday. (The swelling has now, a few hours later, gone down significantly.)
(Does this mean I can finally say I got my swole on?!)
It's raining today and, therefore, too wet to finish up the tilling. Yay! My entire body is tight as can be. I had to stretch before I could even get out of bed this morning. LOL So today will be an easy day of recovery for me -- just lots and lots of stretching and maybe a walk or slow run later if I'm up to it.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do now. During the calmer winter months, I can handle the Alwyn-type workouts but, currently? Not a chance. It's just way too much, especially since I'm an all-or-nothing person.

I actually thought of that last night. LOL I remembered Julie has mentioned a gluten intolerance (and I know tons of others have the same issues) and was thankful that I don't have to deal with that. My homemade whole wheat bread is rather brick-like without the extra gluten.
And a howdy and good morning to the rest of you, too!

Yes OMG.
Gluten is often used in low carb diets though but I wouldn't touch the stuff. I've been a naughty girl too frequently by eating legumes, dairy and finally even some Oreo cookies and my intestines are aching all over.
How about almond flour? Or does that make you feel queasy .. you've got a sensitive stomach as well, isn't it?

LOL!! Diane finally got a full body pump!
Okay seirously that is just weird. What would have caused that sort of swelling?
I just heard about this almond flour yesterday from a friend who is gluten free. She gave me a reciepe for a really good cake with it. It is high in protein too. Hmmm... I might have to try it while I am on the bulk.

What a loafy kind of day!
I've done probably 2 hours of stretching off and on, plus I just got off of the treadmill.
45 minutes @ 3.5 mph -- increased incline by 1.0 every 5 minutes, all the way up to 5%, then back down by 1.0 until I hit 40 minutes, then down to 0 incline for 5 minute cool down.
Easy peasy and it helped to work out some of the kinks from yesteday. Oh, I have blisters on the balls of my feet. I'm not sure if they're from the tilling yesterday or from the treadmill today. Whatever the case, I didn't feel them until I hopped on the treadmill. Oh, well. Now my feet match my hands.
I'm not sure what caused the swelling. My best guess is that I just pushed myself too hard yesterday, trying to go 100% all day to beat the rain. I've had similar responses from my body to prolonged & difficult exertion before. I'd had no new foods, no new anything.
And, nope, I'm not sensitive to gluten. Lucky for me! I just use a couple of teaspoons added to my homemade bread because whole wheat doesn't do to well without it for me.

Spent a good part of yesterday and this morning with a heating pad on my back. It's still cheesed off at me for the midget tilling. So, no "real" workouts the past couple of days but:
Redneck workout for today, done for 45 minute spurts as fast as I could, with 15 minute breaks in between:
4.5 hours of heavy outside chores, including shoveling dirt, moving rocks, log-carrying and throwing, tire-tossing, loaded pallet-sled dragging, sprinting up and down the hill x 15 carrying crap, and metal moving.
I figure as long as I'm doing chores, I might as well advantage of the situation and do them in a balls-to-the-wall kind of way to further enhance the workout.
Bonus: I've started trying to wear tank tops now so you guys might be spared my constant farmer's tan when the next pics roll around. And the weight is pouring off of me these days. Nice. Especially since one of my brothers has challenged me to a "Biggest Loser" contest that's going on in his gym. Prize is free training sessions.... in Phoenix.

Snort @ Susan4
Diane, your redneck workouts are tons more effective than doing a 1-2 hr gym workout done by sedentary folks like most of us.
The swelling must really be an exaggarated inflammation response. Ever heard how dr. Atkins died as a 'fattie'? A blatant lie, or well almost. He'd been put on cortisones /prednison (?) while in come and gained a tremendous amt of wt in that condition.
There's also quite a few others who gain lots of water weight as soon as they resume training or step up their training intensity.
Are you still eating well enough to recover properly?

I'm working on it.
Today was a rest day for me, other than household chores -- just light, normal-people stuff. This week's eats averages:
Calories..........1840
Fat..................85.8g.... .42%
Protein...........114.5g.....2 5%
Carbs.............151.0g.....3 3%
Fiber...............37.5g
Protein sucked this week but I just don't like eating protein when it's hot and/or I'm working. I'm pretty happy with my cals getting up that high, though.
Hubby's home with a buttload of junkfood from the trip. (Yes, 4 weeks earlier than we had been told but it's for good reason and I'll be blabbing about it as soon as I find out some concrete details myself.) So tonight found me eating his leftover pizza and eggrolls. *burp* The rest of the stuff is chips and cookies, puddings and jellos, etc, so I'm safe from those. They're not really my thing. The Coca-cola cans are looking pretty tempting, though!
*going to refill my iced tea mug before it's too late*

Wait you ate pizza and egg rolls and still only got in 1800 cals? Girl, you need to seriously consider getting a gainer if you can't eat.
Looking forward to hearing the news. Sounds exciting.

I haven't liked protein lately, either. Too warm out. Yesterday, I made ice coffee with some vanilla protein powder shaken in. Chocolate is good, too. I add half and half and Splenda, too, but that's just me.

Mmmm..eggrolls and pizza! I'm with Roland, I'm not always a big fan of protein and sometimes I really have to force myself to eat extra (protein powder comes in handy). Things like greek yogurt and smoothies really help in the warmer weather.
Looks like you're busy!
