I've managed to wean them off of several bad things but my hubby's such a bad influence on the kids' eating, it's tough going. He's about 100# overweight and every man in his family dies at a young age (50s to early 60s) so I sure wish he'd at least make some changes for himself, if not for the kids. I'll just keep plugging ahead and gaining ground with the kids bit by bit.
Anyway... Glad to hear you're not obsessive on the tracking! I am right now but I have to be to best learn the ins and outs of everything. I'll loosen up as I find what works and get better at this. I'd never, ever had been on a "diet" of any kind or even had to watch what I ate before last year. There's a lot of learning to be done! I sometimes envy those who have dieted for years -- they've accumulated a ton of experience and information.

I am really lucky On top of the fact that he enjoys cooking, he's really, really good at it... it takes a lot of responsibility off of my shoulders because I only have to plan what I pack, and actually pack it. He basically cooks all day every Sunday. I tracked before I met him, and did learn a lot-- you're right about that-- but it just became obsessive for me, and I while I loved the results, I was... cranky. All th time, and it was a period in my life when I was already drinking too much (does wonders, by the way, for the carb intake), so I was all sorts of f'ed up.
I think it's good to track in order to really learn how to pay attention to ingredients, especially of packaged / processed foods. That was eye-opening for me.
I don't think my husband has brought home anything white or processed in at least two years, with the exception of the 3 LUNA bars I eat throughout the week.
I can imagine it would be difficult to have different habits than your husband's and your kids', but at some point, they'll recognize your healthier choices, and hopefully follow suit.
My husband is going out of town for a few days (we're never apart ) and I was trying to think of all the fun things I would eat while he was away... and literally, I came up with nothing. I've lost all cravings of nachos (whodathunkit?), and can't eat any sweets/bad carbs because I have a huge race the next weekend anyway. I was thrilled to realize that my body AND my mind have finally agreed on this diet.

I have the same problem. I had to sit my kids down and ask them question about what they like to eat that they think is good for them and the I add things and we all come to an agreement. Then I bribe them. I have the family going into a cheat day, actually hubby is more into a cheat weekend. That probably is sabotaging me. But the kids have at least cut down on ALL junk until the weekend instead of every night bowls of icecream heaping over the top... yeah it was that bad! It also allows me to indulge without guilt althought I DO NOT do the entire day, well sometimes I do .

You better be shoutin' that you never went on a diet and you found this place! I am reaping the horrible starvation benefits of my diet escapades of which never worked. Your metabolism is nuclear compared to mine! For accumulated info, you just need the correct info. My head is so muddled with nonsense I am going to have to be unbrainwashed. It is so much easier coming on with out all that gunk.
Hope that helps.

Congrats!!!! Under-200 is AWESOME news!
I have never dieted either and am finding the nutrition aspect to be the most difficult. It's only in the last year or so "eating whatever I wanted" has become a problem.

Ahem.
I ditched my workout today because I was too busy being a lazy buttwad. We've had a rare snow of a few inches here so we've been sitting around having a "snow day", watching movies and, um, eating ice cream. We usually get a trace of snow a couple of times each year but measurable, go-out-and-play-in-it snow doesn't happen but once every few years. I had all intentions of doing my workout in between movies, I really did...
Then I was telling my hubby how Susan's hubby is the same weight as me and he can deadlift more than me. So he started egging me on and you know where that led.
Bodyweight today was 199#. Mixed grip, no belt, gloves, or straps.
1 x 225#
1 x 230#
1 x 245# -- failed
1 x 240#
1 x 250# -- failed
1 x 245#
1 x 250# -- failed
I got the 245#! Woot! I'm still just a smidge behind Mr. Susan but I'll catch him next time. I was grunting his name, along with some nasty cussing, most of the way through the progression.
Susan, please inform Mr. Susan that he's going down!
I'll do my regular workout tomorrow. And no worries on the ice cream as I'm not a big ice cream person and only indulge maybe twice a year. My carbs sure will look like crap temporarily, though. LOL
Oh, and my hubby, not wanting to be shown up by the little woman, tried some deads, too. I've only got a total of 300# and he easily lifted that with good form. His bodyweight today was 272# which, by the way is cool since that's down from a month or two ago. He'd never done a deadlift before (and he gave up on doing NROL after 2 workouts a while back).

Did the kids see this? I'm just picturing the entertainment aspect here -- knowing you all both probably had the smack talkin' going too!

Hey gal you kick butt on Deads!! Mr. Susan says he'll try them two handed next time and see if he can up the weight some Actually now he thinks he has to chase your DH so I'm having visions of a herniated disk or something LOL.
I didn't try more one rep max deads yet, was going to but I had my squat mishap and so I'll have to try again later.... You've sure set the bar high!

Damn, Diane. Your numbers are waaaaayyyy impressive! The kids and I are having a snow day today and enjoying watching a couple of our neighbors trying to drive their cars over a foot of snow, with no shoveling. Good times.

This is especially entertaining (from the safety of your home) in Seattle... We don't do snow very well around here!

Argh. Now he's just begging for an ass kicking!
NR4W, Stage 2, Workout A, 4 of 4
Warmup: None. I've been feeling really pukey all day and the extra movement was just something I didn't really need today.
Front squat push press: 1 x 9 x 65#, 1 x 10 x 65#. Found my groove again on these today and, other than being sick, it felt good.
Step up: 2 x 10 x 17.5#e.
DB 1-point row: 2 x 10 x 25#e.
Static lunge, rear foot elevated: 2 x 10 x 25#e.
Push up: 2 x 10, flat on ground.
Plank: 45 + 15 seconds, 30 + 30 seconds.
Cable horizontal woodchop: 2 x 10 x 110# on BowFlex.
Notes:
Felt like complete crap all day so didn't bother trying to up my weights at all this time. Adding to that was the fact that hubby was home and watching me. I hate working out when he's here because he makes fun of me. Argh. It doesn't usually bother me but it's distracting and I was already distracted enough today. My form was probably off for a few things as I rushed through to get done.
Monday will be better.

Diane, you so need a gym in your neighborhood. I would hate to workout with hubby picking on me. One day I was working out at home and a friend of a friend was staying at my place. He came in the door as I was doing deads along with my friend. He was a smart ass so when I finished he said something about my arms being longer from that exercise. I told him if it were the case that arms got longer from doing deads that maybe he should try doing them with his dick. I finished the rest of my workout in peace.
You also need to find a babysitter for those hellun's so that you can spend one day at the summit. There has to be a babysitter in your neighborhood somewhere.
