I ate lower carb for a few days, then I ate a good amount yesterday and saw a 2 lb increase in weight, at the same time, I measured lower in bodyfat than I have in the past couple months. I decided to continue eating the few extra carbs today.

That's what would happen to me last year.... I'd stay at a weight for awhile and then right before my period I would drop. I want to get back to that point.

Annette, I lost down to 130 (from 226) in 2001/2002. I was way too skinny (I'm 5'5"). I hated the way my face looked, so gaunt. I look my best between 150-160. My skin firmed up pretty well, except my stomach. I would need a tummy tuck for that !
You are doing so great!!

I love today's ramble, Annette!
I know what you mean about not wanting to be skinny. I've been too skinny, average, muscly, and now fat. Skinny was, by far, the ickiest look (and felt the worst, too).
I think the skin issue depends at least somewhat on what you were born with. No matter how healthy we are/become, there's bound to be some loss in skin elasticity as we get up in years. I'm sure genetics plays a role but there are also some things we can do to make the best of what we've got -- exercising and good eats like we're doing is great for skin, too.

I'd never been overweight, skin always shrunk back nicely after each pregnancy. Then I quit smoking within a year of my last pregnancy and blobbed on 60-70 pounds of blubber within a couple of months. Now my stomach skin is loose and is not shrinking back. It sucks.
Maybe we should summon the Great Skin Fairy to sprinkle us with pixie dust or something.

I quit smoking 5 years ago (on Valentine's Day to be exact, so it's been almost exactly 5 years) and have gained most of my weight since then!

Hi Annette,
I know what you mean about not wanting to be skinny with no tone. I've heard people call it skinny-fat before. I recently opened up one of my old Shape magazines I used to subscribe to and was shocked to see all those too-skinny models with NO muscle tone.
Keep up the good work!

Oh, the Shape models are the scariest.
While doing cardio the other day the tv at the gym was set to some college track and field event. Damn, but those men are more buff than most any in the gym, and the women are as built as any fitness model, if not more sore. It was definitely eye opening.
I'm going to find some skinny pics of myself, scan them, and post them. Not sure if that's inspiration or not. Maybe something for me to look at and say I can be slim and fit, not just slim.
Will do later. Got a sick kid at home, housework to do, and still coughing up a storm.

Uh oh....I feel myself slacking a bit.
I'm going to give in to it though, take a short break.
This is my week to do my 2 special workouts (today is the 2nd one) and then I rest the rest of the week. So I think I won't track my food (I leave town tomorrow.)
Since I ate carbs yesterday, and more carbs, I will try to not eat carbs today, simple as that. Plus I know there is some yummy meat that will go great on a salad. I'll concentrate on protein and veggies. Guess I'll be having some carbs in my PWO shake though, my soymilk and berries.
Yesterday I bought some Betaine HCL and some digestive enzymes, and I'm going to give that a go for a bit. I also have some acidopholus pills to take. Then a scoop of flax fiber blend and a "poop" pill (very extra gentle cleansing supplement with magnesium) at night. I've been having lots of bloating issues lately. Things are slimming down on my body, but not my belly, it bloats on me with no rhyme or reason, so I'm guessing it's digestion related. I've always had problems with it though.
So, like I said, today is the second special workout of Stage 1. I'll also work on the bike a bit. I got the gymboss timer and will attempt some intervals. I'm still working my way up to the all out intervals. It's not easy to give it a 100% effort.
Tonight we have dancing, we do country 2-step at a local western bar. Last night I had bellydance class, and will be going to 2 classes a week. Now if I could just get myself to practice some.

I have "intestinal issues" so I take a digestive enzyme with every meal, and also a probiotic every evening. Seems to keep my insides on an even keel! Good luck with it! Sounds like you have the same kind of plan - hopefully it works for you, too!
Dancing sounds FUN!!! Especially the belly-dancin!

Hopefully it works for me dillytl. And I love bellydancing (just not great at it.) Nothing is more fun than the girly clothes, makeup and jewelry, sparkles and all that stuff.
Well, back from the gym. I do not like the AMRAP workouts at all. I don't know how others did zillions of reps, but I felt burnt out really quickly. I pretty much just stopped at 15. Squats and deadlifts bring my HR up so quickly that I can't continue for long. I also goofed today, thinking that with the lower weight I would be able to grip the bar. Nope, my wrist and grip really hurt, even with just the bar and the 2 10-lb plates (45+22=67lbs). Then doing the shoulder presses with only 12 lbs, well, my wrist was tired from the deadlifts, same with the lat pulldowns (which felt great at only 60 lbs, I liked that.) What was nice was that the lower weights were great for concentrating on the form.
Oh, but where I saw the best improvement was in the lunges. When I started I couldn't do a lunge for the life of me. Not only did it hurt, but I would wobble and fall over. I did 15 lovely lunges on both legs today, no wobble, no pain (could have done more, but why....cough, choke) and I was very very happy with that result.
I get a bit of a pain in my lower-middle back when I do crunches on the stability ball, so doing more than 15 doesn't work for me either. I think those muscles in my back need more strengthening.
I also did HIIT on the bike today and it went very well. I did a 10 min warmup, then 5 intervals of 30 second hard, 2 min easy. Then my cool down. It was hard and nice to be done.
Oh, well...Stage 1 is over and complete, FINISHED.

Skinny and Fat Pics
I said I would post pictures the other day, and I finally got some organized. Wow, I really don't like myself in the fat pics. The unsuspecting ones are the ones that show you what you truly look like. The gut is hanging out, the double chin is let loose, hair's a mess, no makeup....it's like I don't care how I look. That makes me very sad and unhappy. I don't feel ugly, but I look ugly in those pictures....and I want to be attractive. Something for me to work on.
Last fall is when I decided (yet again) to lose weight. I saw photos of myself and it was kind of the last straw. When I went back into the WeightWatchers meeting, I was 176, my highest weight ever. I'm down in the mid 150's right now, so I've lost 20 lbs since last October or so. I'm really pleased with that, but it puts me back into a comfortable range, and I don't want to be this comfortable.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
New topic -- I mentioned that I bought Betaine Hcl and digestive enzymes the other day. Well, after 1 full day of those, things seem to be going quite smoothly. Sorry to be gross, but my poop this morning was much much bigger (and no added fiber) and my stomach felt much flatter. I will continue this for awhile and hopefully it will work for me.
Sure my stomach is still fat and flabby, and the muscles are lax, but it was noticeably flatter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's not supposed to be a nice day here. It's going to be doing the darn "wintery mix" crap here. Icey outside right now. I have to drive to Iowa tonight, I don't want snow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Goal for today - hopefully get to the gym and do a nice long cardio session to warm up my body. I would do the Arc Trainer today as I did step mill the other day and bike yesterday. Oh, I did a damn good interval session on the bike yesterday. I'm using that gymboss timer and I like it.
Food, who knows. I am feeling the sugar cravings coming on again, and I'm not good at fighting it. Being out of town for a couple nights will keep me away from alcohol at least. I want to bring some whey along (at the minimum.) I will bring my shaker bottle, have the whey measured out, and order milk with my meals and have added protein. Seems simple enough.
