Why try to hit it every day. Instead focus on doing it 3 days a week. That gives you a goal that is achievable and you don't feel like crap for not doing the impossible.
Oh yeah. Otto. I only read your log for the articles.

Because if I don't I will literally sit on my ass. I plan for easy crap every day to get me up and moving. Mobility, yoga, short bursts of cardio. Essentially just moving around, but in a quantifiable way that also helps me improve my overall conditioning and get me closer to my goals.
It's really not as hard-core as it sounds. Kinda unfortunately, I feel, but I realize that my life has changed and I'm not the super active person who could eat anything I once was. But I'm trying not to be an "always in front of the computer lard ass" either. Middle ground would be nice.
I know my route but had no computer on the bike or me (haven't attached yet, my hrm needs battery). Still, killer. A couple miles around the neighborhood and surrounds. Nothing to get me killed, since I'm not sure where I put my helmet.
Like 30 minutes, give or take, lots of little hills in the area, and I seemed to manage going up more than down and no matter which way I faced ALWAYS with the head wind.
but damn to my lungs burn a bit.
still some prehab shoulder stuff to do and whatnot, but at least I've gotten in my main workout.
Mine getting better. It's weak now, but not normally tweaky. It's entire "thing" is that it was for years very flexible, but awful weak... and so with any weight would like to separate a bit. Pullovers are my big no-no.
If the weather holds till after lunch, I'll finish up the yard and make my neighbors happy.
I'm incredibly sore and not sure why. Forearms I'm guessing because of the whacking of "weeds" but other than that I'm at a loss. I did get in some shoulder prehab last night and planks, though not the stair runs or much stretching. Feeling tight, need to foam today and grab a rope to stretch.
I hear you on the everyday thing. If I workout (somehow) every day, I'm motivated to eat right (well, better...). Cardio is not very motivating to me, and my foot hurts if I walk too much (PF).
I did a lot of reading in the bro-science archives (t-nation) and considered a high frequency but very low volume approach, uber-wisely combining theories from a multitude of authors (CW, CT, CP, CS, TC, LMNOP, etc.) until I had a program that I could delude myself into feeling confident would kick ass (but not my ass, since it's gotta be low volume for everyday anabolicness).
I ended up doing a push/pull split with 1 major upper and 1 major lower movement per day. The rest of my workout is just my rehab and bro lifts (I was neglecting the rehab stuff when I just did them as a workout alone. too boring.).
Anyhow, it gets me to workout almost daily, and I don't like to blow my hard work on junk afterward, so it's all good, so far.
Inconsistency and not moving enough are my foe as well. I think getting the camera has been good for me since I tend to want to grab it in the evenings and go see what I can find to take pictures of. I at least am getting a good walk in and not sitting on my ass in front of the computer.

I actually found the thing that worked the absolute best for me was Berardi's Lean, Sexy and Hard from a few years ago. That rocked. It was 4 of 5 days, ONE 5x5 superset. I might go back to it, but when I was doing it I was 125, 18%, and it was just the right amount of work for me at the time. Barely any cardio and I got cut up. Now I worry it's not enough to really get me burning, but I am thinking of it as my lift and then either add some more to it, or cardio, or mobility/prep/stretch/light work depending on the day. But then at the very least i'd be doing something and still have a rest day.
I'd like to say I wish I knew how I got so lazy, but I think it's just been school... got me out of being used to constantly training, and then it's been easy to sorta drop from there.
I don't always manage my life well. I firmly believe in being selfish and taking time out for oneself, but that usually leads to video games for me, not exercise. And, of course, the problem gets worse the more out of shape I get... because I like things I can do, and right now about all I can do is lift heavy shit until this ever expanding belly gets in my way.
*sigh*
WAY easier to stay motivated when I'm all hot and kick ass AND lifting more than the boys do. Right now I just feel, at best, butch. Prolly because as I gain weight I look more and more like my mom. And if that woman isn't butch, I don't know what the hell could be.
But, honestly, because I feel like it seems like I'm all down and shit, I actually AM feeling better, doing more, and liking it more. I feel good about my choices at the grocery, my arms are firming back up, I don't feel as awkward on my tiny bike as I thought I would, and I'm actually motivated to kick ass.
I think over the years I've convince myself that I needed that damn cardio to lose the weight, which is BS cuz neither Otto or I did the first time. So, more than anything I'm looking for maintaining a certain level of moving. Whether it's proper exercise or not.
I'm not a fidgeter. I'm sorta naturally chill. Even out of shape I have a rather low rhr. So I need to find the things that I like to do that are active as an adult. Some I can't do, because I don't have the money or time or ability... but there are things I can do, and things that I can train to be able to eventually do.
Ramble ramble ramble... just me sorting out a few things in my head to see more clearly... ramble...

deads, in which I still apparently have grip problems over 135, although not much. But I would have needed to pull out the straps to do another rep on the last set, or any more sets.
curl to press db overhead squats. Because this way my shoulder doesn't fatigue as much because my arms aren't above my head the entire time. Still only 10 pound dbs, but that can go to 12 next time. woo-frickin-hoo
Forearms bothering me. Made pushups (on a bar, wrists were kinda a pain too) and negative pull ups a bitch. Esp the pullups. And, obviously I meant negative pull ups, not reverse... but I'm dumb like that sometimes.
I like your reasoning for hitting something everyday. Great going. I try to do some fitness activity every day as well. It just doesn't seem right not to.

When I lose the perspective of "I need to be active" then everything else starts to go as well. I should be a more active person in general. So rather than look at how I'm not naturally an active person, I need to just be an active person.
Nice walk this evening. 15 minutes, leisurely pace. It was nice.
Before that, we opened wii fit. I have logged 7 minutes so far. woo hoo.
At least it gives me something to do in the middle of the day. Hopefully walks will become routine again, at least until it gets too hot.

I haven't posted on your log before, but I started reading it... What you said is exactly how I feel... I'm becoming more and more aware of NEAT and the need to get up and move my butt (and the rest of my body) more during the day... I tend toward an inactive state except during workouts, so I'm working on being more active in general.

Welcome aboard. Not as many monkeys this time around, but there's only so many monkey pictures on the interweb anyway.
We opened it up last night and gave it a short go. Tried the Aerobics (hulahooping, running in place), Yoga (tree pose, badly), and balance games (ski slalom, tilt marbles into the hole).
So today I fired it up for realziez. Is ok.
It starts with some rather basic stuff, and then as you do stuff you unlock more advanced features.
So I've done yoga: deep breating, half moon, tree, sun salutation, warrior; strength: some standing on one leg thing, tpushups; aerobics: running in place, basic step; balance games: ski jump. I wouldn't really call it exercise, although it could be if done enough, but it was a nice wake-up thing to get me moving.
I'm actually rather impressed since you can repeat any exercise when you're done, that gives you your strength sets, and it has you do a certain number of reps per exercise (6 to start, it seems). Like anything, you get out of it what you put into it, but I actually think there's more to get out of it than many previous "fitness" games that have come along. Frankly, it doesn't matter how much fun wii bowling is... if you can still do it sitting on the couch (and if you're good, you can do ANY of the previous games on the couch), it's not a damn "Workout."
With the board... well, the dude chided me for stopping the pushups, and I got 0 points.
So, I deem it fun, interesting, and having potential. $90, in case someone was wondering. It's easily something to incorporate into daily activity like walking, stretching, prehab, etc.
By the way... freeze-dried fruit? NOT as great as it would seem, even though it really is much better for you than the dehydrated, sugar added stuff. But seriously... it's like mildly flavoured styrofoam. Church bread (host wafers) tastes better.
More wii fit. 22 mins this morning, a bit throughout the day, a bunch this evening. 50 minutes total, and some of that was kinda a bit of a workout. Also 5 min on the elliptical at level 2 for 1/3 mi, and a set of stair runs (5). No walk this evening, Otto doesn't feel up to it. Some stretching has occurred. I'll be doing a set of scap presses before bed. All good here.
Food yesterday just under 1500 (1440). Today: 1670.
New rule, no food after 10. We try to get to bed around midnight, so I want a couple hours to settle before the night, otherwise morning weigh-ins are a bit high, and therefore really hard to rely on.
And, I'm working on getting a decent log together to track wii fit activity. As soon as I unlock everything.... grrr...
35 minutes of wii fit this morning. Good wakeup. Unlocked a few more things.
so, for your amusement... transcribed descriptions of the different training types.
Yoga:
Yoga poses that tone muscles and improve posture.
Strength:
Workout to build and tone your muscles.
Aerobics:
Exercises that help you burn your bodyfat.
Balance Games:
Games that help develop your sense of balance.
I mean, I get to do things like "tone my thigh muscles" and suches.
I laugh at the language and music because it's irritating as hell and comes out of the face of a creepy mannequin like thing that moves its head when it talks, but has no facial change or mouth movement.
Anyway, hopefully I'll have everything unlocked and a log up by the end of this weekend.
There's more advanced versions of many of the items, and it gives you mini "workouts" of (so far) 2 exercises you can combine that have some sort of relationship. Like warrior pose and lunge, or sideways leg lift and sun salutation.
Hey, by the way, sun salutation "tones your arms." Why, because you hold them over your head?
I've figured out an interesting quirk in my new reduced rom in my shoulders though. I can no longer hold my arms vertical to the ceiling while squatting down. When I do so standing, my chest opens up a bit, which seems fine, but overall that'd be why OH squats are such a pain in my ass. My arms come way too far forward, and some of that I just can't help at the moment.
I do like the wii fit. If for nothing else than it's fun and gets me up and moving in the morning. I'd been wanting for years to start every day with an easy 5-10 minutes on the elliptical, and I just don't. I did on the treadmill, but I just don't on the elliptical. So the wii fit is giving me that, and it's fun enough to easily extend my time to 20, 30, 40 minutes.
I'll take it.
