FINALLY Training Again - Accountability
I'm posting this here simply in the hopes that I will be more accountable for sticking with my program...
For the first time in almost a year, I have finally started working out again. I'm not fat, but I am feeling a little chubbier than ever in my life (at 24, that high metabolism is finally starting to slow down). More of a motivator for me, though - i'm a slouchy, weak guy. I'm looking forward to getting my strength and energy back.
I'm not doing anything fancy: two alternation full-body workouts every other or third day.
1 Lower body movement (alternating between hip and quad dominant)
1 Push exercise (alternating between vertical and horizontal)
1 Pull exercise (alternating between vertical and horizontal)
1 Core movement
Each movement is done for 3 sets of 8. After three or four weeks, I will change my exercises and set/rep scheme.
I do a dynamic semi-specific warmup at the start, and may incorporate HIIT at a later date and time. I've also begun tightening up my diet. This is long overdue - I'm hoping you all can keep my ass on track.
Thanks for hearing me out!

From memory this is not the first post of this nature. Have you thought about the underlying cause of why you don't prioritise exercise? Only once that is sorted will you be successful long term.
It is always good to hear someone rejoining the path after a slight deviation.

Shark,
Looks like a good plan. Simple and doable.

Josh, you're correct. This is the furtherest I've gone in actually STARTING to work out again, and I think (hope) that that's probably the biggest obstacle - getting that ball in motion again. Once I've finally committed myself to a routine, it will be much easier to keep the momentum going. So these next couple of weeks are going to be the most challenging.
As for why? A combination of work and school. I have grad school classes several nights a week, so I'm out of the house doing things from 8am to 9pm. On my other nights, I do homework. And on the weekends, I'd rather just relax. I know people with even more to do find time to exercise, so I need to stop using my schedule as an excuse and just do the damn thing. It's really about finding the right internal motivation to keep me going. Thanks all!

Nice and simple that will help things tremendously. I see by the sheer numbers of your posts that you have been around for a long while or spend a lot of time posting. What are you studying in Grad school?

hi fisher! it's amazing how long its been/how little i venture into this section of JPs now. When i started here about 3 years ago, i spent almost all my time in the training forums. Now, i'm mostly in off-topic or current events. So i'm sure you've been here a little while, but nice to meet you!
I'm studying Human Resources, which is also what I do for work.

I'd change rep ranges too. So for one workout you're doing 3x8 the next you're doing 8x3. Different loadings.

Good answer to Josh's question.
Glad you're getting back into it, Chris. Go for it. We're here to help you stay focused.
