I have not done any strength training in months. I have been focused on running right now. With my limited time these days, I just can't do both. However my boss did just let me only work 8 hour days on Tuesday and Thursday's so maybe I can hit the gym after work now!

As someone who'll be running her first half in December, I just wanted to stop by and wish you luck on yours. And I hope the weather conditions are perfect - that makes the running so much more exhilarating when it is just right.

Thanks.. Weather should be perfect! High of 70, but the race should be over before it gets that warm.

Race is over. I sucked out there today!!! Once again I did not use my brain and thought my abilities were better then they are. Started out way to fast and thought I could hold a 9:00 min pace the whole way. By mile 8 I was done. It was hot on the course and I died a miserable death and finished in 2:11:21 .

My plan on training proved to not work. I should have focused on shorter pace runs and more interval work instead of slow long runs further then race pace. I kind of had a feeling this might happen as this week was a bad one at work and woke up this morning already feeling beat up.

Once again running is more mental then physical!!

You missed your goal but you gained valuable lessons AND you ran a half. That in and of itself is a good thing.

I find that lifting too if more mental than physical. I can be defeated by a weight before I pick it up just by not prepping mentally for the lift I am about to do.

I'm sorry to hear that your half wasn't the best. I know what you mean by the mental part - if my mind isn't in the game, no matter what I do, my run will suffer for it.

Still, I think you did well considering the heat. And you did a half, so my hats to you.

Thanks... I seem to always learn the hard lessons and then still do the same thing each time. This has just motivated me even more to find that next level in my running. I have been stuck at the same level for over a year now. So now time to research some programs to help increase speed and stamina for distance. I am planning on 2 more 1/2 Marathons this season, one in March and the other in April or May.
