Go back to your other shoes. You don't want or need to start messing with your mechanics now. I see no issue with a new pair of your favorite model this far out. But, NOTHING NEW AND DIFFERENT!!!
Congrats on the new distance records.

I am still using Nike's just not the same ones as I really like. They don't make the Triax 10's anymore and its the 11's (that I am wearing now) that don't feel right.
Then again this all might be nerves and crap during the taper. It may just take more miles to break these new Triax 11's in. So far I have only put 20 miles on them. This for sure though will be my last pair on Nike's. On to Mizuno's next.

Marathon Training
6.2 miles in around a hour
I forgot my garmin this morning when I packed my stuff. I was glad I did. It was a perfect opportunity for me to just run. No thinking of pace or heart rate or anything but why I love running. A chance to just think, relax and listen to some good tunes. Everything felt good today. I think the new shoes are starting to break in and I don't think I have to worry about that anymore. Time to shut the mind off and just get ready for the marathon. I have a problem of second guessing everything before a race and I need to learn to just relax and let things come as they may during the day.

Beer report
Buffalo Bill's Brewery - Pumpkin Ale
Much better in my opinion then the Shipyard. I could taste more pumpkin in it then the shipyard. The spices are better in check for me, you can really taste the clove in this one. I think more clove and less nutmeg and cinnamon is better for beer. Then again I really don't like overly sweet beer, except for the occasional Chocolate Stouts, that too me are not really sweet.

Thanks, I put it there to remind me of the bigger picture during the taper. I do hope that the weather stays just like it is right now, no repeats of last year. Even if its a little hotter then normal I should be fine, as I have trained in the heat. Still I love autumn running better then anytime in the year.

Marathon Training
3 miles in 26:59 (oops pace - 8:59)
I should not be running this fast right now but it feels so good outside that I can't slow down. After the marathon I should be in great shape for the 5k season. I doubt I will do anymore then 2 or 3 though. I want to focus on the weight lifting.
Weight update. Down to 169. I know this has to be some muscle mass. Someone mentioned to me that I am getting to be that sickly runner body type. I was kind of pissed by that. I have to remind myself that people who don't workout or train for anything really don't have a clue about what they are talking about. I know I have lost some strength evidence by my last weight workout, but I have only lost 6 pounds from the heaviest I was when lifting. Feeling really good right now about where I need to be as the marathon nears.

Marathon Training
8 miles in 1:13:06 (9:08 pace)
Once again I ran this too fast. I forgot how much faster I run when its cold and I am trying to warm up in the morning. The unfortunate thing with this is I tweaked my foot again. It is for sure a muscle thing. I stretched a bit and finished out my run. It still is sore right now, but I think I will be fine. I think even though my old shoes have a lot of miles on them, I will wear them for the marathon. There is just something that bothers my foot with the Nike Triax 11's. I hate when they change shoes. BASTARDS!

Beer Report
Fort Collins Chocolate Stout.
YUMMM. I had this beer last night with a piece of cheesecake that I made. The strong stout went perfect with the Raspberry Chocolate Cheesecake. The beer is a wonderful blend of Chocolate and espresso flavor. It was the perfect reward to start my Marathon week. The nerves are starting to kick in. Just hope the foot holds up a little bit longer.

Heh see? Chocolate stouts are really nice, especially when paired with desserts. Enjoy your taper.

Hey,
I just wanted to say I've sorta been following along, and I can totally imagine that your nerves are starting to peak. I know I'd be in the same place. You've definitely done the work, so I wouldn't worry about that! All I can say is use the nervous energy to help you propel through the race - just don't let it make you go to hard at first!

Thanks Jesca for stopping by. You are so right about using the nerves to focus on in the race. Its the one reason that I am going to run with the 4:15 pace group for most of the race. If it feels good after 20 I may leave them and go for a better time. Either way I am going to let the day just come to me. Never in a million years did I ever think I would be in a position to do a marathon.
I must thank all of you that have helped my through this process.

Marathon Training
3 Easy miles in 29:52
Nice and slow is the mantra for my last few taper runs. Foot felt fine and I ran in my old shoes. They may have over 500 miles, but I think they have a few more left in them to get me to the finish line.

I'm sure you have probably read it already, but I wanted to let you know there is a lot of good racing info in the current Runner's World magazine. Lots of stuff on food before the race, dealing with nerves, and the taper. Thought you might be interested.
Good luck with the shoe thing! I'd be pissed too if I found a good shoe and they changed it. Oh, or maybe, discontinued it. Real pissed (ask me how I know - New Balance, I'm looking at you!)
Anyhow, if you're comfortable in them, and they aren't making your legs or joints hurt then I think it makes sense to do the race in them. No reason to suffer just because you were supposed to get new shoes.
