I can't really offer any words of wisdom, past think of all the carbing up (read: beer) you can do when the race is done.

Oh that's a given. We have plans of a post marathon dinner of beer, deep dish pizza, and sushi. A odd combo I know, but 3 of my favorite things.

Marathon Training
8 miles in 1:19:35
The good news is I finished this run. The REALLY bad news is that I some how hurt my left foot really bad. By the time I got home and started walking it hurt so freaking bad. My fear is that I have a stress fracture or something. Walking from my car to my office was extreme pain. I just can't imagine how this happened. I went out real easy today. I just pray it gets better with some rest today and may be just a bruise or something else.

Yikes! Has this happened before? I hope it heals up quickly, bud.
Great runs recently - I've been MIA a bit.

Thanks all. I am going to the Dr's today at 3:30. To say I am extremely worried would be an understatement. We shall see what the experts say.

Back from the Dr's. Well it was a interesting trip. Before I left I noticed that my foot was not hurting as bad. This is a new DR for me as my normal one has retired, not sure I like this man at all. Anyway he checked it out and can not be for sure, but does not think I have a stress fracture. He poked around and moved my foot in all directions and could not get it to hurt. He thinks that I may have tweaked a small muscle or ligament between one of the small bones in my foot. Without a MRI or Bone scan, he could not rule out a fracture. With it not hurting as much and the suddeness of it, he felt pretty sure its nothing that a day or two of rest won't fix.
That was a bit of a relief. In other news from the Dr office was according to their scale I weighed in at 166. Now I really think their scale is off as when I weighed this morning with no clothes on I weighed 170. The funny thing was they could not get a good blood pressure reading and resting HR on me. The finally got it and if I remember correctly my BP was 107/70 and my HR was 50 bpm. I think both of these are pretty good, so I guess I am in good cardiovascular shape.
I did stop by the running store to make sure my shoes were ok. The conclusion to that is its better to be safe then sorry and I ordered new shoes. I only have 300 miles on my shoes I was going to wear during the marathon and my 2nd pair just hit 500 miles this week, but I could tell a huge difference in the new shoes and my least amount of mile shoes. He also said that my pronation is not as extreme as my current shoes warrent, so my mechanics have gotten better. So the next time I need shoes I am going to go with a mild stability shoe instead. Being so close to the marathon, I just ordered the same shoes, but this time did not get the wide version and upped the shoe size. He agreed with me that he thought that might help out a lot. I have never been extremely happy with the new Nike Triax 11's. They don't fit the same as the 10's, but I think I over thought it and ordered the wider version, when I probably did not need it.
All in all I think today may have been a case of over reaction, but with 2 weeks away I don't want to take any chances on anything. I have trained to hard for too long to screw it all up now.
Thanks for all the well wishes. I hope I can get back at it in a few days.

Glad to hear the good news tcoy777, those numbers soudn good as well( nice low heart rate). They always have a probelm finding my heart rate and BP . Two weeks!!!! Tapering is harder mentally then the actual race in my opinion. Keep up the good work, and stay healthy!!!

Thanks everyone. It does feel better today so I am hoping that it was just a sprain or something like that. I think that with a stress fracture it would still hurt today. I am going to try to run a few miles on Friday and see how it goes. If all is well then I will continue with my 12 mile on Saturday.

Marathon Training
4 easy miles in 39:22
Well it went pretty well. Still a odd dull pain in my little toe. It feels almost like joint pain. It did not hurt anymore running then it did just sitting around, so I guess that is a good thing. The new shoes felt weird for the first few miles, but by the end felt good. I really wish I could have gotten the other brand that I tried on, but it probably would not have been smart right before a marathon to change brands. The mizunos were a lot lighter then the Nike's. With my mechanics better I don't think I need such a heavy shoe anymore. Oh well something to look into at the beginning of next season.
I am just grateful that my foot did not cause me anymore problems and I will try my 12 mile run tomorrow.

So I went to the beer store and got a 6 pack of different beers. I will post a quick note as I consume them. I tried to stick with mostly seasonal beers, but I did sneak in one of my favorite stouts, Fort Collins Chocolate Stout.
First Beer I had tonight was the Shipyard Pumpkin head ale. It was pretty good. More nutmeg and cinnamon then pumpkin but still a nice crisp autumn beer. So far so good.
