Well the Urban Dare was kind of cool. I think they could have done a better job putting it on and have more support along the way (ie WATER). Damn it was hot. Over 90 out and we could only take the bus to go places. So we decided that the bus was probably not any faster then just running/walking. Well about 45 min my poor wife came very close to heat stroke. We had to stop a few times to keep her from passing out. The only real physical challenge was kick this soccer ball up this big hill and back. I just kicked the ball as hard as I could and booked it up the hill. Once up the hill you had to kick it against this wall and then back down the hill. I let gravity help me and kicked it so hard against the wall, that it went flying down the hill with me chasing after it. I almost bit it coming down the hill. We finished in just over 3 hours. The winning team finished in under 2 hours. I really don't know how they did by not taking any transportation besides the bus. They had to take a taxi or something. There just was not any buses around. My theory is that the winners were actually transplants from the company that knew ahead of time the clues and route. That way they did not have to pay out the $1,000 prize winnings. But thats just my pissed of competitive nature. Once again some couple pushing a stroller beat us. It never fails. When ever I run a 5k I am always just seconds behind some guy or women pushing kids! Oh well we had fun, but won't do it again anytime soon.
Now on to a week of rest. I think I may actually not even run this week to get healthy before next weeks Marathon training. I have not taken a week off of running since November or December. So I don't know if my mind will let me do that.
forcing yourself to truly rest (as opposed to getting sick and having it thrust on you) is hard to do. enjoy the week though - you and your body have earned it!
OMG - that Urban Dare thing looks awesome!!! How cool! That sucks that there wasn't enough water. There is one in Chicago this weekend, I would try to convince my husband to do it with me but my mother-in-law will be here.
This post may be deemed profane for those watching diets or just simply apposed to food porn.
Last night my wife and I had Date night. I took her out to the place where we had our first date. Well actually we went some place else for dinner the first time, but had dessert here. We went to the Boundry. I for one really enjoyed it. I had Ostrich for dinner with sweet potatoe tart and grilled vegetables. For dessert we I had Smore's tart. It was amazing. The highlight of the meal was what is now my new favorite beer. Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout.
Yeah, but they're better for walking, I'd think. They don't let a big spot on your back breathe, they flop, and throw off your center of gravity. (All of this is assuming they're similar to a smaller regular backpack.)
I was just thinking that as I was reading his response. I think they might be a little more aerodynamic than regular backpacks but I've never used one. At minimum I bet they sweat.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Oh this will be interesting... A rest week eh? I bet you can't do it. LOL!!! That urban dare sounds stupid actually. I am glad you had fun though...
Funny you should say that. I tried my damnedest to try out my friends bike today that I may buy. He has the locking pedals and I needed to get some normal ones so I could ride it. So I go out buy some pedals and a helmet. Come home and I need a 1/2 allen wrench to get them off. I don't own one that big. So my neighbor comes home and I ask him. He does, but then we can't get one of the pedals off. I must have looked like a kid at Christmas who could not play with his toy because his dad could not figure out how to put it together. An hour and half later I gave up and decided that I guess I really am suppose to sit on my ass all week!! DAMN!!
Lets just say in concept it should have been cool, but in the end I felt like I was taken for our 90.00 entry fee. I mean it could not have cost them any money. They had maybe 5 people run the thing. The tasks were moronic, and no water. Then at the end you go to a restaurant were they have a few pitchers of horrible beer. I got a few beers in me before we left so I got some out of it, but for that much money it should have been better done. There were like 45 teams, so they made some good money. Oh well it it was a experience and doing something like this with my wife made it worth it.
$90 entry fee for that thing? Holy crap, I'd be cheesed off.
Too funny about the bike and your rest week! LOL! Now sit down and relax for a while, will ya?!
Its just so damn hard!! I have felt more tired this week then ever before. Not sure what that means.

Oh I did for a while, but I was getting frustrated that I could not go for a real ride that I gave up. Besides I wasted to much time and it was time to make dinner.
On a side note today I think I learned a very important lesson. Don't eat sushi from Wild Oats for lunch!!! I have been so sick today.

Yeah nothing will put ya under quicker than bad sushi will. Hoping you're feeling better now.

well not sure what the heck is wrong with me, but I doubt its food poisoning as it has lasted now 2 days. I think its the stomach flu. This kind of sucks as today should be day one of Hyp 3 and Marathon Training. I think I am going to pass on both. I have not eaten really anything except cereal and crackers for 2 days and am now down 5 pounds from Friday. So I think I am a bit to weak to workout. I was so excited about getting back at it, but the gym and the road will still be there on Tuesday.
Well the most likely scenario would've been you'd've had a crappy workout, so much so you might've even called it early. Then you'd've been pissed off at your performance and the wasted time. I think you chose wisely.

Well I am back at!! This was the first workout of any kind in 10 days. I have NEVER taken that many days off in the past year. The weight workout was a bit frustrating. My left shoulder is no better then before the rest and kept giving out on the push presses. Only on the way down with the weight. Weird!! The new exercises felt a bit odd, but I will get use to them.
The running was very nice. I went out to the park after the weights. My Ipod died on the last set of cleans so no music. I originally was going to ease back in to the running, but I forgot my heart rate monitor. So I went out and decided not to look at my garmin for at least a half mile. I hit the first mile and felt good, surprisingly as it was my first hard run in the heat (only 85 though). So I thought I would try negative splits and not really look at the garmin to keep any pace, but measure effort by how I felt. I decided to at this point to do what the jockey for Big Brown should have done and just let Big Blondie run in till I passed out. Mile 2 felt good, Mile 3 was a push but, unlike Big Brown I did not ease up. Woo. Nice negative split run to kick of the Marathon training.
Superset with 90 sec rest
Bulgarian Split deadlifts
5x8 at 115 lbs each leg
Split Good Mornings
5x8 at 95 lbs each leg
straight set
Wood Chops
3x15 at 40 lbs each side
I made a decision to not run and lift anymore if at all possible. Since I missed my workout on Monday due to being sick, I had to. Today I got up the same time I normally due via the 4 legged alarm clock. Instead of eating breakfast and sitting around watching the news for an hour I decided to get my run in. Good plan as it was only 70 out at 5am. Legs were a bit tired from yesterdays effort, but felt good.
On the weights, I am glad I ran in the morning, as I would have never been able to run after this leg workout. So far I think this workout was the hardest out of all the NROL lower body days. The Squats just burned like hell by the last few reps on each set. The BSD were as odd as I am sure they looked. Lots of people looking at me shaking their heads. I could care less as I could barely get myself out of the gym after that superset with the good mornings.
Nice morning only 75 out and modest humidity, this all at 4:45 am. Going to be a hot one today. Glad I opted for the morning run. My legs still feel the leg workout yesterday, but I think the run will help them get feeling better soon.
