ah, nothing like a 5-hour test to kill your day. I'm happy I crammed for them last year, and got them over with, so I don't have to take the test with all my friends tomorrow...or later today, I guess.

I love the WSJ--it's actually a real newspaper, unlike the Miami Herald. Good op/ed section.

I took um last year too and scored well enough to get into the schools I'm looking at, but if I raised my scores a couple more points, I start qualifying for full rides to some places. I'll spend the 5 hours if it means getting a tuition free college education at a school I want to go to :p

So reffing today seemed to really help the legs. Probably the blood flowing plus the heat. Feels alot better.

Phase II W/O 13
October 8, 2007
Lower Body Max Strength
A) Front Squats (easy) 3x3 @ 135
This was a low volume week with lighter weights. Front squatting felt nice. I did these body-builder style and actually found a spot where the bar sat decently comfortable.
B) Reverse Lunge 2x7 @ 95
C) Stiff-Legged Deadlifts 2x6 @ 205
D1) Lying Toe Touches 3x12
D2) DB Windmill 2x8/side @ 25
I was not into this workout at all. My legs felt funny and I just didn't feel it at all today. I think its the stress of all these college essays that I'm having MAJOR writer's block on. I should finish 1.5-2 today so hopefully things will be better after they're done. With that being said, I'm restricting my internet use to only email and posting in this log until the essays are done.
I can't wait for Halloween when everything will be done and handed in :p

Yeah, man, you've got some other major things going on. Not going to be your best workout days, but I know you'll get back on it hard when the other stuff settles down.
This is from Berardi a few years ago:
"Train for long enough and you'll come to realize that sometimes in life you need to consciously slip one set of goals onto the backburner of your priority stove and place another set of goals on the front where it's hot.
For some, that means slipping their custom birdhouse construction hobby on their personal back burner so that they can focus on their health, physique and muscle strength. For some, they need to go in the opposite direction. Since it's impossible to put all the important things in our life on the hottest burners, it's important to give ourselves permission to juggle which things go where."

Thanks RL
I think I remember reading that. I'm kinda frustrated because some of the time I'll really be in a groove, like two weeks ago when things clicked with the squats or last week when I hit the benching PRs and felt real proud of gutting out the walking lunges. Then theres days like today where I barely have anything in the tank. The good news is, two of the essays are coming along well. I'm jumping back and forth between the two as I think of more stuff to write for each. And, I really helped out a friend tonight by chatting with them for a couple of hours. That makes me feel good which makes all this just a little bit easier.
Having today off helped with these essays. I'll wrap up the first drafts tonight so I can get them into my teachers for review. I have an ordeal weekend this weekend for the Order of the Arrow for Scouts so I'll be camping all weekend. Luckily next Wednesday is no school for me, so I'll be able to put the finishing touches on these essays and get my apps in. Then the pressure is off. I'll still have a supplement to do for UPenn, but I have until December for that as opposed to a couple of weeks for all the others (Early Action).
Whew. On top of this is my Eagle Scout Project. Luckily, the timing seems like the heavy work of my project starts right after I finish the apps, and theres really no pressure with the project. I want to get it done as soon as possible, but I do have until July of next year in case of HUGE disaster. Its not like impending doom. After that, which I'll hopefully finish in December, it's smooth sailing until baseball and AP tests.
Bottom line: I can't wait until summer!
OK that was a lot but it felt good to get this all written down.
The End.

I'm the same boat as you--prioritizing school/apps/extra curriculars. I'm just telling myself to get through first trimester, and hope that I get in early. It kinda sucks, the stress having no free time, but it is what it is, you know?
btw, the UPenn supp looks like a pain in the ass--the autobiography essay is fun, but I am not looking forward to a why penn essay, and the faculty question.

Looking at the supp its not that bad. It's really only 2 pages for us; the rest is transfers and instructions and stuff like that. The faculty question I'm actually looking forward to, as I've talked with a family friend about a Penn professor who she's worked with. She organizes conferences for top business executives and just worked with this guy at Penn as a presenter. Through talking with her, I have a pretty good basis for what to write. There's the classic paragraph about what you do for fun.
Luckily only one required: Why Penn? Which begs the question, how do you tactfully say "You're the top undergraduate business school in the country and I want the best possible education to prepare me"?
I'll most likely do one of the optional essays as well. Not sure which one yet, but I have a couple ideas for each.
I can't wait till all this crap is over.

Yea. It's my reach school. If I get in, I still don't know if I'd actually go there, but hey why not apply? If I get in, I can say I got into an Ivy League school. Then I can either say I go to an Ivy or I turned down an Ivy :p If not, then my top choices are still there, and I'd be extremely happy at those schools.

good luck with wharton, man--it's ridiculously hard to get into(even more then penn)
One of my friends applied last year.He had to be the most brilliant/hardworking kid I have ever known. This kid was a freak--sick gpa(lowest grade in high school was 93 in an AP class), sick extracurriculars(he worked as a day trader in his spare time, founded a successful website, and plenty of other stuff), and not great SATs(1300 range--I think this was the deal breaker). He applied ED, got deferred, then rejected.
I'm applying to the College of arts and science, so it's good to know that we're not fighting for the same spot.

Might as well try, right? What's the worst that happens? My #5 school says no to me. :p Life goes on. I'd rather face the rejection letter than spend years wondering if I had what it takes to get in.
Edit to Add: Good luck with your apps too!

Hey, I agree 100% with you. The worst thing you can do is be scared of rejection and not apply anywhere. I'm with you, I'd rather get an answer, good or bad, then wonder what could've been for the rest of my life.

Alright, it's been nice chatting back and forth, but I just finished my essay so I'm gonna go to bed. :p BTW, I really like having the three of us on here (you, me, and Paul) who are all around the same age. Its pretty cool to be able to go back and forth between the three logs and see whats going on with all of us.
Til next time, bro.

B2) One-Arm DB Row 2x6 @ 70
