Thanks, Gabe. I think it's something different that takes me out of the normal rut. To challenge oneself outside the box is never a bad thing.

Sun Run Training
38 minutes .... 7 run/walk intervals at 7.5mph and 4.5mph .... 5 minute walking warmup at 4.5 mph .... 5 minute walking cooldown split at 4.0/3.5 mph. Distance: 5.7 kms.

As the running intervals were lengthened this week, I lowered the speed a bit on them but kept the walking pace the same. I'm pleased with covering almost 6 kms in 38 minutes with all the walking I did .... that's kind of cool.

Other Stuff
Pushups: 2X27

Added another rep to each set.

Yes, I'm into week 2 of the training now. This is starting to look like it might actually happen! Guess I need to go buy a decent pair of shoes ....

Well, so much for the 10K ... and so much for BoM. F#&K!!!!!!!!! My sciatica has returned. And of all things during an upper body workout. Go figure. I did lots of pre-w/o mobility work and must admit that my lower back was feeling a bit off but not painful. More tight than painful. So I did a bit more mobility stuff, then moved on to my workout. Rows and bench.

I made sure to brace my lower back during the rows and they went fine ... pain-free. Then when I started the bench, I noticed that my hip mobility was very limited. When I tried to widen my lower leg stance and pull my feet back, I had quite a limited range of motion. Um ... maybe that was a signal, Rob? Perhaps you might want to stop now. D'oh. But no, I'm superman.

I got through the warmup and things seemed to loosen up somewhat. But then on my third workset of six reps, something went "pop" on rep 5. Never a good sign. Pain. Not horrific but workout-stopping. Yes, I was sensible enough not to finish.

But now I have that typical lower back sciatica pain, going down my right leg, that I know all too well. It seems to be on a 6-month cycle with me. I'm in pain, frustrated, pissed off and feel a little worthless. Clearly, I'm going to have to limit my lifting expectations. Clearly, the 10K is out.

Why did this happen, you ask? Dunno. I'm suspecting the running. Pounding on the spine probably isn't too good when you have historical disk issues. I thought that with the slow and steady training, I'd be ok. Guess not. Or perhaps BoM just did me in like it did last year this time. Who knows?

Where does this leave me? Also dunno. I need to be in a better frame of mind to work that out. Way better. Definitely will be making an appointment for some ART tomorrow. Right now, I'm going to find an icepack and watch the Superbowl. See you around, guys. Thanks for your support over the course of this log.

FWIW, here's the final workout ....
