My mojo is back ... I've been working out and the diet/exercise break did not do too much damage ... only about 4 lbs (over which I was psyched!!) and most of that is gone already.
I've got a plan in place for when I get back from New Hampshire ... and I'm looking forward to dropping this last 15-20 lbs ... I think I might be starting a new log for that ...
Also in good news ... definitely going to the summit ... hubby was not thrilled and at first said he needed to think about it, but when I asked him later (after several beers) he said if I wanted to go I could go!!! So when we got home, I purchased my plane ticket!!!! No looking back now!!!
Off to New Hampshire to celebrate the New Year with our dear friends ... Matty can't go because it is going to snow and he'll have to plow But the girls and I are going anyway ... And we're bringing our snowshoes!!

Hey.. here's to a great 2009 and if you must, a new log too. Lots of people starting new logs.
Too bad the new forum doesn't have the cool URLs anymore that reflect the title of a journal . Perhaps new journals will have that ... all the more reason to start a new one now

Hi Julie-
thought I'd drop in to ask a few questions, since I'm too fatigued to try and figure out the PM system! I tried to get a 'general' impression of your thread and your progress. It looks like you took most of 2 months off lifting and cardio, and just focused on diet, stretching and yoga. Then around 2 months in began lifting, but the posts look like the lifts could be done in about 30 minutes or so. Does this sound right? From there I'd say you went slowly during that first year, and then things seem to have really cranked the second year, in terms of lifting, recovery from illness, and just getting through daily stress. Is this how you see your recovery? I don't have kids, so I haven't been exposed to bugs the way you have, though I work with kids, so I do have that exposure. I know that I can't base my recovery or how I workout based on another person, but it does help to have a timeline and to see how things went for you!
Zoey, sorry! I didn't see your questions here until just now ...
Initially, I really didn't take any time off lifting and hard intervals. I might have taken a week off here and there, but nothing really extensive. My doctor was happy I was exercising and wanted me to keep doing it. I don't think she realized just how intensely I was working out ... I kept telling her how tired it was making me, but it was really only once I started working with Leigh that I stopped working out for large chunks of time ... she helped me see that I wasn't helping my body any by killing it with exercise. That what my body really really was crying out for, was rest. That was a hard thing for me to get ... now when I work out, I lift for about 30 minutes no more than twice a week ... I do low intensity steady state cardio for 30-45 minutes keeping my heart rate really low (generally under 120) maybe two to three times a week. I also do yoga two to three times per week ... and try to foam roll and stretch daily ... but realistically 3-4 times per week.
But keep in mind that my imbalance was not nearly as severe as yours.

On another note ... I've been meaning to start a new log ... I just haven't had or made the time!! We're supposed to get some snow tomorrow, so maybe I'll have time then (no playing because the temp is supposed to max out in the single digits!! )

Julie,
I am so fortunate that you have this thread, and that it covers so much time. I'm encouraged by your progress, and your honesty through everything. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to work out hard again...but that's something I'll have to figure out and accept at some point. I think this type of thing (prolonged illness) really shakes you up, makes your re-evaluate all of life's priorities. You are definitely a very strong woman! I look forward to following your threads...
