Want you to know that I am thinking about you and worrying. Hope Matt's getting the medical attention and support he needs. Hope the girls are completely oblivious and hoping your getting some rest.
Thanks everyone for your ongoing support and friendship and prayers ... I cannot tell you how much it means to me to have people like you, people whom have never met me in person, thinking of my family and sending prayers. Really.
So this is the basic story ...
Starting last Thursday night/Friday morning, Matt started having periods of lability (prior to this, I had never seen him cry ... he never cried when either of his parents died!) interspersed with strong feelings of paranoia and anxiety ... along with some delusions (ie strangers sending him secret signals; conspiracy theories, etc). He went to New Hampshire on Friday night into Saturday to take the docks out (I stayed home with 2 sick kids). And I decided to bring him to the ER on Sunday morning.
After going to the ER at Hartford Hospital, they observed him for 22 hours then released him with a name of someone to call for an outpatient appointment. So I picked him up yesterday (Monday) morning from the hospital and we visited the kids at my parents then went to lunch ... where he had a complete delusional episode, thinking that someone had planted a listening device in my car and he was totally paranoid and said we needed to call the govenor because she could help us and she would believe him. Ummm, yeah.
So we go to the outpatient appointment, and after 45 minutes with him, the clinician talks to me, and then determines that he needs to be admitted ... via ambulance. So off we went to the ER at St. Francis (with a police escort!) where they ran all sorts of blood work and urine tests and did a CTScan and MRI (all negative thankfully).
So, basically extreme stress brought about a psychotic episode. While in the hospital, he will undergo extensive counselling and therapy to teach him better stress management skills and also get some medication which should also help.
I'm pretty freaked out ... and stressed ... and all that crap ... but meditating and praying a lot ... and taking it one day at a time ...
To end on a positive note ... I saw my doctor yesterday and my hormone profile is improving dramatically ... my levels were all within normal limits (progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, free T3, free T4, and vitamin D) - with medication. So she said to continue what I am doing (she was happy about the increased yoga and meditation and said that if the resistance and interval training makes me tired, it means that my adrenals are not handling the stress from those workouts) and she'll see me in mid-January. So at least that is good ...
Again, thanks for all the support ... God bless each and every one of you ...

I'll continue to keep you and your family in my prayers Julie.
(Good job with the improved hormone levels!)

No prayers from me (not religious) but you & your DH will be in my thoughts.
It's so good to see your health is improving. This will make it easier to handle this most unfortunate situation.

You guys are the best ... I really cannot tell you how much it means to know that you are out there thinking of us ...
Things are going very well ... we've had some very productive conversations about things that should change to reduce stress on our family ... he's very open about stuff which is great.
The lack of sleep and added stress last week is finally catching up to me ... took it easy today after cleaning out my veggie garden (to ready it for rototilling) and moving some perennials around ... also AF showed up a bit early (better than late like last month I guess) and feeling a bit UGH from that ... otherwise sunny though!

Most regular ale, beer and lager are derived from barley which is not gluten-free. However, there are several new varieties of gluten-free beer derived from buckwheat, sorghum and/or rice which are gluten-free.
The ones she lists as being gluten-free are

Bard's Tale Beer, gluten-free beer (www.bardsbeer.com) This gluten-free beer is available in a numbe rof states; however, it is not sold nationwide nor by mail.
La Messagere is a Canadian gluten-free beer brewed from rice and buckwheat. The brewery is Les bieres de la Nouvelle-France (www.lesbieresnouvellesfrance.c om) The beer is sold in Canada.

AFAIK there's no gluten in beer, right?

Yes there is. Some might be low gluten but a lot of beers do have it.

if its a wheat based beer, there will be some peptides floating around in it. Not a terrible lot, but some.
So, it depends on how bad of a gluten intolerance one has. Mine is not bad , but prolonged exposure to gluten gets to me. For a long time I've eaten rye crackers without any problems. Rye does contain gluten, but not as much as normal wheat. This could have changed: gluten intolerance seems to have worsened over time.
Sofar, the beer hasn't been problematic, but I've only drank it about once a week and 1 bottle at the time.
Espi,
That's what I figure too ... I just don't know how crazy to get with eliminating ALL gluten ... I mean, soy sauce? I have been looking for gluten-free soy sauce which I know they do make (just haven't been to that store yet). Obviously eliminating wheat/barley/rye are the big ones ... oats might be contaminated ... but I just don't know how crazy to get. I think I'll try for total for a few weeks to allow things to heal, then slowly add some stuff back in to see if I notice a difference.
And my understanding is that barley is the issue with beer as most beers are made with barley ...

Yes, malted barley is the source of the fermentable sugars in many beers, though it's been made with wheat, rye and a few other things. There are also wheat wines and other exotica too.

And remember, it's mostly a gluten intolerance, which is not the same as an allergy. But even allergies are varying in how severe the response is, which is then called 'food sensitivity' which can actually be used for both allergies & intolerances to make it even more complicated.
It's a very rare case when someone is extremely sensitive/intolerant for gluten. In these cases one can't even use the same frying pans etc.
I'm not 100% sure though but I was explained that in my case I'm having aspecific allergies/intolerances. This means that I am not just allergic to cow's dairy but also to goat's dairy. In the same vein I don't just tolerate gluten well but the same holds true for oats. Oats have a protein that is extremely similar to gluten. If the body doesn't make much of a difference, then oats are OUT too. Doesn't matter 1 bit if oats are or aren't contaminated with gluten. The culprit is the oat-'gluten' .
Loads of oats = bad news for me. But who knows, you are spared and can eat oats without a problem. Just don't think that gluten-free oats are the answer as you might be f*d in the same way = aspecific intolerance for all gluten-like protein = grains.
Legumes can be bad news for the intestines as well.
Right now I'm thinking that some things I thought to not tolerate all of a sudden: bananas, chickpeas may be OK but that walnuts are the cause of the cramps I've been having all of a sudden. Since mid-Septembrer I've basically eaten walnuts every (other) day as I received a ton of them for free. They can have become moldy all of a sudden. They were just fresh from the tree when I got them and then dried them in-home.
