Matt and I host a large party every year the Saturday after Labor Day at our home. It's great fun, but a lot of prep work ... so my workouts Friday and Saturday consisted of lots of GPP stuff ...
Friday ... house cleaning, laundry folding, horseshoe pit raking, large party tent set up, big rock moving
Saturday ... table building, large paver and stone moving, tarp lay-out, Tiki torch sledgehammering, keg hauling, grill stair carry, porch furniture stair carry ... etc etc etc ...
It was hot and humid ... it rained during the party which stunk ... it meant that the band could not play (something about amps, electricity, and water not mixing well!) ... but we still had a great time! Victoria came ... I wish I had been able to spend more time with her, but there were lots of people to see (hope you still had fun! )
Meditation did not happen either Friday, or Saturday ... workouts were not as planned, just the above described activities. Eats were not clean ... Friday was too busy to eat, then ate whatever I could find when I realized how starving I was ... Saturday ... well, it was a party!! Today has been okay ... just not a lot ... too humid and I'm just sooooo tired.
So the week's scorecard ends thus ...
ScoreCard: Sleep: 3/6 Missed Friday night and Saturday night only getting about 6 hours each night Meditation: 4/6 Me Time: 1/1 Nothing exciting, but I did get some alone time and did watch some TV ... Eats: 3/6 Workout: 6/6 (Sunday is a planned off day ... and got lots of GPP in lieu of formal workouts on Friday and Saturday) Mood: Tired. Just. So. Freaking. Tired. AF is overdue ... good thing Matt is fixed or I'd be in a panic.
So, for a first week back in the saddle, not too bad ... lots of room for improvement, but considering we were so swamped with party prep I think I did as well as could be expected. Aiming for 7/7 on everything next week!

I think you're right! Hope you got to enjoy yourself at the party.

he he I think I'm going to get a lot of GPP over the next couple months with the moving prep. All in all though Julie, that wasn't a bad start for your plan.

Thanks for inviting us, Julie. We had a very nice time. That was a very smart idea to put the tarp on the deck. Other than a few random holes, we kept nice and dry. Maybe next year the rain will actually hold off for you. Don't worry about not hanging with us much. We'll just have to plan another time to get together and finish our conversation about the "pig pills."
7/7 next week....no prob!!!

Sounds like a fun party Julie! Even with the rain. You gotta splurge once in a while, right!!
Yes, absolutely ... it's the more than every once in a while that kills me!!

I look forward to it!! It'll be a blast I'm sure!! And no rain next year ... I'm putting in my order now ... write it on next year's calendar ... September 6th (it's always the Saturday after Labor Day ... and once you've been invited once, you are always invited!)
Well, just finished editing the 61 Day Challenge Tracker for my new Challenge ... you can see it here if you care to ....

Sounds like a good time was had by all. What are you doing in terms of working out now?
Just my own stuff I guess ... I'm doing a lot of yoga (mostly from YogaDownload.com They have a podcast on iTunes so I can get their 20 minute workouts free which is great. I'm also doing strength training 3x/week ... some TRX, some KB, some BW, some conventional weightlifting ... nothing real structured or periodized ... just a mish-mash of stuff. I need to keep the intensity lower and incorporate more rest periods than previously. I hope to be sufficiently recovered by the first of the year that I can start NROL4W ... that's my goal anyways

Sounds good - they've brought yoga back to the corporate gym and I'm very interested in trying it again. Especially with having done about 4 months of NROL.

So, felt like shit all day yesterday ... stayed in bed mostly ... we were also without internet all day which for me means no telephone as I have a VOIP phone (AT&T CallVantage). Frustrating ...
But today is a new day ...

Oh no! What's wrong? Do you have a bug? I hope you feel better soon.
Nah, just still exhausted from our party ... too many nights of too little sleep ... and lots of physical labor ... plus my cycle is all screwed up this month and I think I'll feel better once AF arrives ...

OK, did a 20-minute power yoga session that left me shaking and sweaty ... good stuff ... followed it with some meditation ... the kids are in bed and now I will do some foam rolling and mobility work ... meals were 100% on target today ... feels good to be back on track although mentally I'm still a bit off ...

Thanks guys ... I am feeling better today ... one way that I know I am healing is that it takes me a shorter amount of time than previously to recover from things like illness or too many days of too little sleep. Yay!!
So ... a real-live strength training workout this morning ... courtesy of the TRX. Did it inside, hooked to the top of my power rack (had to add weight to the back as I almost pulled it over on top of myself on my first pushup!!).
Extensive Warm-Up/Mobility/Activation stuff ... please ask if you want details. (15 minutes)
Minimal rest between sets, 2 minutes between supersets ...
A: Bulgarian Split Squats: 2x8 each
B1: Push Ups: 2x8
B2: Pistol: 2x6 each
C1: Rows: 2x8
C2: Crossover Reverse Lunge: 2x8 each
D: Suspended Plank: 1x30 seconds
(30 minutes)
Eats were on track yesterday and also on track today ... went shopping today and that always helps!!
My upper back is a little sore from Power Yoga yesterday ... I need to do some foam rolling later!!

I am planning on NROL4W at the first of the year, too.....currently just doing regular NROL. I'll bet there will be a lot of us migrating to NROL4W at the first of the year. Should be great having a nice group of us all going through it together!

Bulgarians are evil. (The split squats, I mean... not the people, you know, like Galya)
Glad to see you're doing better!

We can add me to the group for NROL4w at the start of the year

Well, all it takes is one look at Galya and Milko to know that the Bulgarian training methods obviously work!!! Still feeling my glutes today ... more upper body focused workout as a result ...
Thanks for the info regarding one legged variations on exercises. I did one-legged deadlifts and squats with body weight when I came home from the hospital. You are right they are great exercises and it wouldn't be a bad idea to do them to work on my balance. I could sub out some exercises for one leg squats and King deadlifts. I have also been considering getting a kettleball and doing some exercises with it for balance and strength. I'd probably start with a light one to get use to the movement.
Greg, I love my KBs ... one thing I heard from Gray Cook at a seminar was that he likes KBs for rehab because they have a built in balance challenge because the way they are held creates an offset weight. They are waaaaaayyy fun!!
Thanks bigD!
Worked all day yesterday ... 9 hours ... went for a hike today with my family. It was short since the kids were with us, but was probably at least 1 mile ... my mom's birthday is tomorrow and we were together to celebrate. Fun stuff! It was a beautiful New England fall day too ... just perfect.
Planning some TRX tomorrow ... should be fun!
