I should know better than to read Roland's journal with any kind of beverage in hand. I learned of words I didn't even know existed today..... and just about damaged the keyboard in the process.

I could have written your first post (well, probably not as eloquently).
But I understand the ab thing. And as the first poster in said, the abs might come if you stop focusing on them. That is what is currently happening to me. I stopped thinking about them as a primary goal (I don't know how I stopped since they ARE an obsession of mine) and they are more defined than ever!! So I'm sure that will happen to you as well one day.

Wow. That's great! I'm very happy for you!
I hope I get mine someday. But, in the meantime, I feel mentally healthier. That's more important, I think.
If somewhere down the road, I need some short term focus on them to get there, then that's okay, too. But, months/years of that focus was draining...
Ran 5k. I only planned to run about 2.2 miles, but figured I had another lap, easy.
It was weird at the end. I was able to sprint to the finish and things felt so smooth and easy. Like it was suddenly effortless.
I've caught myself doing that sometimes. I think mentally I try to leave some in the tank to make sure I can finish the immediate goal but then find there's some extra effort left over. Same thing happens with weights. Tell me 5x5 and I'll get 5x5. Tell me to do them until I drop the bar and I'll get 7 or 8 and/or up the weight the next set.
I didn't realize how much I WAS draining myself.
You sound pretty level-headed and focused and goal-driven so things can only improve for you in all respects.
It's laps around the lake. 1.1 mile each lap. Maybe that's the confusion.
5k = 3.1 miles
Sounds like you may be actually have found that run enjoyable -- don't fight your feeling even though all those experts tell you running isn't where it's at. It can be fun, really.
Nice run Roland ... as a non-runner, I occasionally have those days too where I feel like I could run forever and it is effortless ... they are just VERY few and far between!!

The "stranger"? I always figured most guys master ambidextrosity by the time they're 15.

Its a good thing I didn't have any thing in my mouth at the time I read your journal. I would have spit it all over my computer.

Somehow I knew someone was going to make a comment

I went for a little increased range of motion in my squats. I've been working on prying my hips open a few times a day. It really hurts when I do it, but afterwards, I'm better able to squat deeper. I did the prying before my squats, too. The extra ROM seems make squatting the same weight harder. It's an investment...
Meanwhile, I'm very happy with the RDLs! Getting close to 300lbs and my ROM on those is really good. The plates come close to touching the ground, now. I had someone watch my form to make sure my back staying "gracefully arched."
The extra ROM *should* make the squat feel harder, since you're recruiting more hip flexor and psoas. The pain, though, concerns me a bit. I'm thinking it might be worth your while to consider a more comprehensive mobility plan.

That sounds better. I was imagining "ouch" kind of pain.

A squeeze press is where you press two dbs together as you press them. You have to press really, really hard. Like your life depends on it. Like the dbs will splode if you let up. When you do this, it keeps the triceps from activating, and you just work your chest.
