I'm feeling really unconditioned. I feel like stepping it up a bit. Shorter rests in the gym. Tougher supersets. More sweat.
I wish I still believed in EPOC. It was comforting.
Bottom line, I felt better when I knew I could outsprint the people around me. I still can, but just once. I want to know I can do it over and over again, and leave them in the dust, crying or something. At least they should want to cry. Wimper? Sob?
Note: The mound in this workout is a steep hill in the middle of the park. It's like the mound they made in 'The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill And Came Down A Mountain.'. Maybe a bit taller.
I feel a little better about things. On the ride back, I detoured through O'Neil Park and did an extra 5 miles or so of roads, fire roads, and switchbacks.
I the tail end, I was riding behind some cocky 30-ish dudes with swanky full suspension bikes (the 3-5 grand ones, with disks, the newer big wheels, and more!). There were fancy frames galore. These were like the equivalent of a raised truck mentality. Small penis syndrome in the bike world. One had a very special bike with a special frame, but try as I might, I can't phrase the joke well enough. The term for that frame is monocoque. Based on the sheer awesomeness of these guys and their bikes, I'm sure that's what they had. Collectively.
Anyhow, my 41 year old body and ancient mt bike smoked them up the hill. I took the long way, up switchbacks, while they took the paved road that's 1/4 mile shorter and I stil got the drinking fountain first. Yay me!
One coyote sighting. Not a good sign to see one at noon. It was a big and healthy looking one, too. Even weirder.
I called the Ranger and warned off the dog walkers until he got up there.
<--- Not a fan of full suspension bikes. Rear suspension makes the ride spongy and IMHO a little less than in-control. But that's just me.
Me neither ... I love my ancient hard-tail. I have a Paramount (bought in 1993) with XTR components, Grip-Shift (from back when it was new), and a Manatou front fork (like v2.0). The whole thing is like circe 1995. I love love love mountain biking, but haven't done much in the past like 10 years. Now it's hooked up to my wind trainer for indoor cardio in the winter.
I also have a Giant hybrid that I take riding with the girls (towing them). It has a suspension gizmo in the seat stem.
And Roland, I told you ... you're my twin, separated at birth by a year and 2000 miles (or whatever it is)!!!

I've never had one. I've ridden one once. It was nice, and I could climb up rocky terrain super fast. I'm not a jumper or downhiller, so I thing it's overkill for me. Also, it was pretty heavy and robbed power (e.g., a euphemism for "it was too expensive" ).

I made my bike. Picked the frame out, the Manitou fork, and all the other components and assembled it from scratch. 1991 or 1992. It's pretty old.
I have another one with slicks, gripshift, and a fancier manitou fork. I set it up for just riding around town, but it's not as comfortable. Plus, with the slicks, I can't take detours.

Yeah, kinda like buying an expensive pair of shoes when the feet inside are the issue (and would do better without the shoes in the first place). Cons outweigh pros of rear suspension.

The dirty quote possibilities have taken a quantum leap in availability around here. Whenever I see a nice rear suspension I ask her to back that thang up.

So who's older?
Roland nicely called me last Saturday to check on how we were doing after the evacuation from Houston. Unfortunately I could hardly hear him because there was a band playing loudly in the background. Dude should know we party hard on Saturdays.
So tonight I'm watching a Planet Earth episode on Blu-Ray. Serious partay.

I'm confused, though. I think you said you were at your annual company picnic or something. You evacuated to a company picnic? In Kansas City? Sounds suspiciously like you were avoiding me.

I have a one speed with a banana seat, raised handle bars and a sissy bar on the back somewhere! It might still have the baseball card hooked to the back wheel!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Juan Pablo Montoya was DQ'd from his pole position in today's Sprint Cup race due to excessive gas pressure in his rear suspension. Bill, Nick, you're welcome.

and Julie is a year younger than Roland.
It was my dad's annual company picnic. He was so glad to get to show off his grandkids, and the entertainment/food were great. They had BBQ, kids' games, a caricature artist and a blues/rock band that wore mostly camo.

My butt is a bit sore from the bike yesterday. I took a short ride (2 miles) and hit the playground, where I found a 5 dollar bill in the sand. Sweet.
A1, TRX Pullups (8/8/6)
A2, Elevated Pushups (20/14/12) - feet up on a low wall
B1, TRX Jackknife (8/10/8) - been a while... yuck
B2, TRX Leg Curl (15/15/15) - surprisingly hard, but not sure how to make them harder to do fewer reps
With the TRX Pullups, it's really hard to find a place that's tall enough, yet reachable. Had to do some climbing, and still start with knees bent. The swinging makes for a challenge, but it also forces me to dead hang at the bottom, stretching my lats more. ...and if I can't have the big chest, I'm going for more back.
I need to figure out some sort of spacer for the top of the trx straps so I can try muscle ups. I was able to do exactly one at JP's. But the TRX handles hang too close together to try it. I might buy some rings in the future.

Muscle ups are way cool ... I've seen a video of a guy doing them with the TRX ... can't think where though ...
This one? Looks hard.
Continuing with my more energetic workout theme...
A1, DB Snatch-Right, 80 (2), 90 (2), 100 (1), 90 (2/2/2/2)
A2, DB Snatch-Left, 80 (2), 90 (1/1), 80 (2/2/2/2)
B, DB Clean & Push Press, 80 (5/4/3/2/1)
C1, Kneeling Cable Crunch, 100-single pulley (10/10/10)
C2, DB Suitcase Walk, 100lbs, 3 gym lengths, up and back for each hand
This workout felt great. My shoulder feels perfect, although I'm taking it easier on the left side. Definitely weaker on that side. The push presses were hard on the right, but at my limit on the left.
Now that I look at it, I feel like I should have done more, but I'm wiped.
Excellent workout, tonight! Super sweaty, though. Not pretty.
A1, DB Snatch from floor, 75 (5/5/5) - got in a good groove, but the last few were tough. Had to go looooow
A2, Fast Clap Pushups (6/6/6) - no pause at bottom, like the ground is hot.
Pretty good weekend with the kids, if you can look past the crying, bitchiness, pouting, and whining.
Had a family reunion sorta thing. At a park. It drizzled. For the first time, my daughter joined in with the conversations and had a good time. She even asked if we could go to the Christmas get together they talked about. Small miracles.
My son caught a large fish. He said 7lbs. How he knows is beyond me... But it was big.
Dropped them off and hit the gym.
A1, Pullups (4/6/5/5)
A2, DB Snatch from floor, 70 (3), 80 (3), 90* (1), 100* (1), 90 (3/3)
That 230 PR felt really off, so I stopped. Turns out I had 5lbs more on one side. I'd been trying for 225. Oops. PR, though. Yay me?
I feel like I must be doing something wrong on the cable crunches. It's all I can do to get down to the kneeling position with that much weight. I don't think my crunch muscles are that strong.
Notes: I asked Leigh for help on the cable crunches. I wasn't doing them right and sorta knew it. Her tips put me back in my place.
Been a while since I squatted. Felt good. I only made the last rep of the last set because I'd already written it down. I had no choice but to knock it out.
I started with some snatches and just didn't feel it. No power in this guy. Not enough sleep lately. Also, not enough food yesterday. 10 minutes into the workout, I realized that I'd eaten my preworkout meal 4 hours before. I tried to eat it 1 hour before, but then ended up running some errands. So, I was weak.
I ended up drinking a Muscle Milk from the gym's cooler. All those people who say MM Cookies and Cream is delicious are crazy. It was drinkable, but not good. Is the powder version any better? I'm not going to see.
A1, Pullups (9/6/6/7) - PR on the pullups. My last shot got me 7, so yay for 2 more!
A2, DB Snatches - Abandoned, rather than hurt myself.
It ended up being a good workout once the MM kicked in. I'm happy with the pullups, since I NEVER do them. I tried them last week on a whim and then decided to try them more seriously. It's been a year or more since I've done any pullups and then, I maxed out at 7 (and I weighed 175-180 then).
Dude, from what I've heard, the best thing to do is stay away from ANY brand's cookies-n-cream. There's just something about them. Never heard a good thing. ANY.

I hear people raving about it. I've always been skeptical, so I picked that one. Normally, faced with cooler of shakes that I don't really want to drink, I'd pick chocolate or strawberry.
Banana's another one that people like that I think is nasty. The should call it Artificial Banana, not Banana. That's how it tastes. Like those banana candies that are all that's left after the good colors are gone. Or banana Popsickles? Come on... just stop.
On another note, I just did 29 pushups. A two pushup PR. I'm on the verge of 30! At 15, I thought I was stopping at 20 or 25. I got pretty excited when 25 wasn't the end point. At 27, I knew I had three more in me. But, when I lowered myself after 29, there was ZERO chance of another. It was like I couldn't remember how to push. But, 29! Yay.
195lbs today and STILL on the lowest belt notch EVER! Size 31 jeans still fit.
