If that is thong guy, I want to workout at Roland's gym.

I have yet to drop weights on the squat but I already know I am a sissy and not lifting heavy enough. For some reason I just fear it. I should do a drop just to get over the fear.

Love me the ab wheel! I didn't know anyone used it anymore. We used to have contests at my first job in the hallway.

T-nation, I think, had an article on ab wheels, fairly recently, and liked them

Thanks! It's been a while since we met. I'm 25lbs heavier, too. My DL PR is 425. Getting there. I'm chasing Mahler, who hit 450, I think. Oh, I passed all of Bill's tests, so I can squat now! In fact...

Tonight, was squats and bench

A, Squat,
275x2
315x1?
315x1?
295x1 (x6 sets)
225x8 (x2 sets)

B, Bench
175x3,
195x1
205x1
195x1 (x2 sets)
185x2 (x3 sets)
175x5
175x4

C, Decline Tri Ext, 65 (10/9/8)

Squats. I'm not fully convinced I hit parallel on the 315s, hence the question marks. The squats felt good and smooth, though.

HaHa, that's right, we did all of those tests together.
Wow, 25lbs. Solid, big guy!

(I can still beat you on bench, just above you on squat

I've never dropped the bar, and I have only ever failed a squat once. It sucked really bad, and was probably the worst moment I've ever had lifting.

Dumping the bar would suck too.

I'm lucky I have good spotters now though.

I can't think of a reason why anyone would want to dump the bar! Although hey, shit happens!(although that shouldn't happen too often)

My ortho says that all that's left of my shoulder problems is a little biceps tendonitis. So, I am to keep up the stretching and rc strengthening. I get to add some overhead stabilization lifts. I'm thinking of DB Figure Eights, Overhead Shrugs, Overhead Squats (yeah right), and maybe some lighter DB Snatches. No real pressing yet.

Dumping on the front squats was just dropping it because it felt like it was slipping off my delts and I wanted that last rep. Didn't get it, but I wanted to try.

On the back squat, I knew I wasn't coming back up, so I just lower it down to the pins.

I'm glad I dumped it because I was self-conscious about it happening and everyone looking and staring. Because of this, I might have been holding back and extra 10lbs that I could have been squatting. Now, I push closer to the edge.

I don't want anyone at my gym to spot me on squats. Zero confidence.

DB figure eights will get you the strange looks you're used to by now.

Yesterday. Too busy to log, not to workout

A1, RDL, 4x6, 275, 295, 295, 275
A2, Sternum Pullups, 4x6

B1, DB Figure 8s, 3x60s, 15lbs
B2, BB Curls, 3x10, 60lbs

A few overhead squats to practice. I'm getting more flexible. I could do a few, but I feel all wobbly going down. Keep practicing...

This was today.

Lower body mobility, stretching calves, etc.

A1, Front Squat
205, 6, 6, 5
195, 6

A2, Stretching/Shoulder Mobility

B1, Cable Press
95, 6/6/6/6

B2, Overhead Shrugs
95, 8/8/8/8

C1, DB Dorsiflexion
60, 9/10/10

C2, Tricep Pressdown
70, 14/12/10

D, DB Pull & Catch
65lbs x 12
75lbs x 12/10/8/8

This was pretty brutal. Especially the pull and catch at the end. My hands are thrashed for catching the dbs. The knurling is pretty ugly on those dbs.

I'm starving now.

Your hands always seem to be torn up. People who notice must think you're an epic monkey spanker.

Failing squats is great!

the amount of weight you can add between a 'hard' rep and a failed rep in a squat is a ton.

Thanks, John!

Still stretching, Julie! My problem is having so many areas to stretch. Boooooring. But, it's better than pain.

Frank, now that I have gone down and not come back up, it's not as scary to try the ones I'm not sure about.

Tonight's workout. The last, pre-Summit.

Tue, May 27, 2008

A, Front Squat, 195x5, 205x5, 215x5x3

B1, Standing Cable Press, 75x5, 85x5, 95x5x3
B2, Chins, +20x5, +30x5x3

C1, Squats, 225x8, 225x8, 215x8
C2, Diamond Pushups, 20, 15, 14
C3, Chins, 8, 7, 6, 7

I'm starvinating!

I do most of my stretching while I'm doing something else mindless, like read or watch TV. Some stretches make reading hard, but I have figured a way for most. I also foam roll usually in front of the TV ... too much pain to concentrate on reading with that!!!

sniff sniff ... have a beer for me on our birthday with all the summiteers, okay?!

Strong workout Roland. Front squats are really coming along, and those chins are very impressive... 20 weighted followed by almost 30 @ bw. Very nice!

I also do my stretching and foam rolling in front of the TV at night. Adding a yoga class once a week has also really helped with my hip mobility and flexibility.

I HATE stretching... even in front of the TV (since normally I'm surfing as well... hard to do THAT on a foam roller).

Have a beer for me, too. How a kid gets to graduate in May these days, I'll never know. I am certain I didn't get cut loose until the end of June back in my day!
