Your ratio is excellent...I would think it couldn't get much better right? I have HIGH cholesterol too. Some doctors freak out and some just say...wow, your ratio is amazingly good.
One year ago I had my cholesterol tested and it was:
272 Total
LDL 175
HDL 80
Ratio = 3.4
Then I had it tested again 6 months ago and it was:
251 Total
LDL 151
HDL 85
Ratio = 2.9
The second doctor had a follow-up call with me to see what we could do about lowering my cholesterol. I'm like, dude...look at my HDL...look at my ratios. He left me alone at that point. Lipitor pusher.
Am I wrong? It looks like your profile improved right?
Quote:
The ratio of HDL to LDL and total cholesterol is considered more important than total cholesterol in predicting the risk of heart attack, heart disease, stroke and other health problems. This ratio indicates whether there is extra cholesterol stored in the cells and whether your body is properly eliminating excess cholesterol from your body. Total cholesterol level guidelines are:
acceptable: total cholesterol ratio less than 4.0;
very good: total cholesterol ratio 3.5;
excellent: total cholesterol ratio 3.0;
amazing: total cholesterol ratio 2.6
If you achieve a total cholesterol ratio of 2.4 - 2.8 your body may begin to reverse existing heart disease symptoms. Given the opportunity, the human body has an amazing capacity to heal itself. Most people are too focused on bad cholesterol levels and total cholesterol levels, and are not aware of the importance of their total cholesterol ratio. As evidenced above, the total cholesterol ratio may be the most important factor on the cholesterol level scale and should be monitored for improvement.
I normally go for beer or wine, rarely mixed drinks... But I've heard of a black velvet which I understand is a combination of champagne and stout which I'd like to try.

Yesterday, I totally wiped out on the upper body stuff. I'd planned my normal full body, but after the DB Clean and Jerks, the thought of doing a chinup was unpleasant... So, I continued on with more lower stuff and pushed upper work to today. Today went well.
Hey LD, remember that you need cholesterol for hormone production ... my doctor feels that all this "low cholesterol is good" stuff is actually not good. My total cholesterol had been very low until I increased my fat consumption ...
September 2006
Total Cholesterol = 148
HDL = 66
LDL = 75
Triglycerides = 36
Ratio = 2.2
May 2007
Total Cholesterol = 174
HDL = 73
LDL = 93
Triglycerides = 40
Ratio = 2.4
It was around mid-March that I dropped the egg white only omelettes, and started eating full-fat foods and such ... my ratio changed slightly, but because my overall level is better, my doctor was pleased (although she said that she'd like to see it even higher as my body needs to rebuild so much). So I guess just remember that "they" might not have it right yet when it comes to cholesterol ... too low is not good for hormone production (yet every other doctor I have been to has been so impressed with my levels and tells me how healthy I am ... HA!) ... the ratio is definitely the important part ...

Thanks people. That 190 is courtesy of this weekend's great cheesecake experiment.
I made four of them. Each is basically the equivalent of a quarter of a larger cheesecake. Like a 16 slice jobber? Granted, each was small, but most of them are are gone now. They were low carb, actually. and, you couldn't tell. At least I don't think you could. TNT compliant, even, but they'll still make you fat if you eat them all. I actually did okay. I ate them as dessert, after a lean protein source and veggies. Low fat meals, since the cheesecake is nothing but cream cheese, sour cream, butter, nuts, and eggs. Delicious.
They were pretty good, but not ready for publishing. The reason for four was so I could try slightly different ratios in each.
This week's experiments were Vanilla Bean Cheesecake and Coconut Cream Cheesecake. The Coconut Cream was excellent, but I'm not sure it would be as popular. But, I think I almost have it down. The crust was perfect.
Vanilla Bean wasn't sweet enough, but the crust was really good. Toasted almond crust. Next week, I'm trying hazelnuts, though. Might be better.
The cheesecake sounds great! Not ready for publishing? Too bad, I want it NOW!!!! Well, I guess since I'll be traveling this week, I can wait a little longer......

Coconut cream wouldn't be my first choice, but I'm really curious to see the recipe anyway!
