I'm not sure how I feel about this CW stuff. On one hand, I sure feel it the next day. On the other hand, I feel like I stop sets before I should. Psychologically, it makes me feel like I'm not workiing hard enough. On the third hand, I leave the gym tired, sweaty, and with a lot of muscle fatigue. So, I don't know.
My example. On the squats, I can do 10x10 at 175lbs, but with CW's deal you pick a weight that you can do for 10-12 reps and stop each set after the first rep that's slower than the baseline speed of your reps. So, 6 reps, not 10 reps. Then, instead of 100 reps, you stop at 35.
I don't know. Apparently, it's not a gimmick, since when he started writing this stuff, people called him out, saying nearly every big strength coach of the past used this method first.
Oops, I forgot to answer it. I should find out on Tuesday.
Plus xxx is kinda like a porn rating. Bonus.
Today's workout, brought to you by the number 35. Starting with a weight that you can do 10-12 times, max.
A1, Two Handed DB Cleans, 55 (7/7/7/6/6/6)
A2, Pushups (9/7/7/7/6)
Annoying gym night, I guess. It started with this guy watching me do the cleans the whole time. I don't mind if people watch, but guy was watching me in between sets, too. Like I was doing something totally mysterious and he couldn't wait to see what happened next.
On a personal note, I really didn't want to workout. I was sort of tired and in a funk, but I haven't worked out since Weds. Nothing at all.
I'm glad I started. Once I got going, it was all good.
There's something about cleans that freak people out. They have NO clue what the hell you're doing. Ross (DH) said he had a semi-circle of people watching him clean and OH squat at the gym yesterday--lucky him, he's good at tuning that shit out.
Sounds like you had a good workout despite it all.

It was good. There was more staring, today.
A1, Jumps over a box. I went as high as I could, doing sets of 4 jumps. I got up to jumping over a 26" box. I think I did 6 sets.
A2, Jump rope, 1 minute
B, Box Jumps, 30" box, 5x4
C1, Lateral Stepups, 3x15
C2, DB Rows, 55lbs, 3x15
D1, DB Swings, 75lbs, 3x15
D2, Incline Serratus Crunch, 3x15
E1, Face Pulls, 75lbs, 2x15
E2, Scap Pushups/Plank, 2x60s
Excellent workout.
I'd like to work on my vertical leap, just cuz it seems cool to jump high. Any ideas? I'm not really serious enough to buy anything... I just just want to work on it a little bit, then quit.

I just try to adjust the number of risers every couple of weeks. Then I gain confidence with the higher level until I'm brave enough to jump on the higher box. Repeat.
Sorry, I meant CW's stuff that you were talking about a few posts back.
The whole stopping when the bar speed decreases thing.

Ah. I'm not really sure what the progression is supposed to be. My plan is to just bump the weight up every once in a while. Try to keep the two supersets to around the same number of sets. I don't think it really matters, as long you progress. So, as long as I'm able to keep adding reps to each set before it slows, I'm good.
I agree. As long as you're progressing, all is good.
I was asking because you wrote about muscle fatigue, soreness, sweat, etc.
So in my head, the conversation went like this:
Me: But how are you progressing on the program?
Roland: I'm progressing very well.
Me: Then it doesn't matter how much you sweat or how sore you are, as long as you're progressing the program/philosophy/method is working.
Roland: Gee, you're right. You make a lot of sense Matthew. You are a genius. I wish I was as smart as you. Thank you for opening my eyes to what's really important. I'm going to send you a cheque for $100,000 for being so super smart. And I'm going to give you a job once you graduate college. A job making $1million a year. Because I can afford it, and because you deserve it for being so gosh darn brilliant. The world is a better place because you are in it.
You kind of ruined it though.

I had my MRI (MR Arthrogram) review, today. Apparently, I don't have a SLAP lesion, and if there's a RC tear, it's very slight and doesn't show on the MRI. He says that it he can see an area that appears to have inflammation in the shoulder bursa area.
Also, my physical symptoms, via his tests on me today, indicate that it is a little better. He seems to think that the inflammation from the original injury (he called in the insult) has never gone away, and won't, without help.
So, I got a shot of a steroid concoction plus an anti-inflammatory. I'm supposed to pay special attention to how much it helps, and when I notice the pain returning.
I'm supposed to take 800mg of Motrin, 3 times per day.
I got a Theraband and instructions on using it.
A physical therapy referral, with specific things prescribed.
He seemed to think that this would all help, and that I'd feel significantly better in 8 weeks (my return visit).
He checked my back and shoulders for "areas of opportunity" and said I'm good. No winging, etc.
I can do horizontal pressing, but said to knock it off for the first week or two of PT, so I can be sure that I'm emphasising the stuff that's important: The RC area.

Ooh, the special Roger Clemens house blend! You have to drop out of the Challenge if you're juicing.

Cool. I've got a collection of these: red, green, blue and badass black.

Excellent! Rock on with the therapy.

I will be a Kaiser PT, but I have confidence! They've been good to me. Just takes more time to get things going. Not that I couldn't have pushed harder...
