Nice workouts Roland ... I'd volunteer for your jumpfest, but I bet I'm a bit heavier than you'd like!! You live in the land of the waifs though, so there ought to be some skinny bitches you can find out in LaLa land!!!

I bumped up the squats, since they seemed too easy last week. This time, they were not.
The corner rows and squat/presses also went up. I thought I was going to die on those squats. The extra 10lbs was almost all I could take.
A kid that I talk to a lot came in in Spandex shorts. I don't get it. He's too young to have gone through the period when everyone wore them to workout. Every other time, it's been normal shorts or sweats. Curious. Poor boy.
You men are so funny RE spandex. It is great for women but never on a guy. Personally I love men in spandex. In fact I think you should wear cammie and spandex to sit on the roof.
I'm having horrible stomach pains from eggplant. I'm assuming...
Sometimes this happens with broc, cauliflower, raw carrots, and unpeeled apples. Eggplant is a new one. It's leftovers from yesterday and this didn't happen then. I wish I knew what caused this.
All I had was scrambled eggs with the eggplant stirred in.

Eggplant - especially the skin of the eggplant - makes my mouth itch. No stomach ache though. I have a friend who gets all sorts of distress from green peppers. Things that make you go hmmmm....
Happens to me with broccoli. Sucks bigtime, I know. Sorry you're going through it.
Maybe you should scrap whole veggies and just buy Superfood from T-Nation.
I actually considered it. Not for this reason, but sometimes I just don't want to eat vegetables. I've switched to fruit sometimes (sacrilege!). Just when I'm revolted by the thought of veggies. I don't even really like fruit all that much.

In other news, good numbers, man.
Thanks. Try starting off small and working up to more and more raw veggies. Our systems are so into the "predigested" and broken down by cooking foods that we need to ease back into raw stuff. I think.
I saw a show once where these goons when to live on some little island and pretend to live like our ancestors. They all got appendicitis from all the roughage. The theory was that the appendix used to provide some extra lubrication or enzyme that we no longer really need. When it got called back into action, it was out of shape and BAM! Appendicitis. Poor little guys.
Either that or they all swallowed chewing gum and watermelon seeds...

Do you get itchy mouth from bananas or raw tomatoes? My daughter gets that. She won't eat eggplant, so we'll never know on that.

Cooked carrots are delicious, too.

Yep. My own. I like to subtly change it up every three to four weeks. I'm impatient.
Some people react to some or all of the nightshades (eggplant, tomato, potato, peppers, tobacco). Bananas get me sometimes if they are too green I get to be doubled over in pain for awhile, bleh. Love em tho!
I only kept jumping because I was on a roll. It's not 15 minutes straight. It's definitely intervals. Maybe a minute on and 30 seconds recovery, repeat.
This was an awesome workout. Looking forward to some lifting, tomorrow.
Do you ever get over the sore calf thing from jumping rope, or am I doing it wrong? I jumped for eight minutes (intervals 30 on/off) the other day and thought I might die. Jack was NONE too impressed with the mommy who couldn't speak! ha!
Roland, I missed this apparently, but how long have you been jumping rope? I was thinking of giving it a try and was wondering how long it took you to get to just regular jumping without mistakes.

And, that "weird eggplant thing" sounds like an idea for a Stephen King novel.
Maybe you've got a novel in you, John. I relinquish all rights...

I have freakishly strong calves. I'm sure it's from lugging 235lbs around for most of my adult life. But, I was sore when I started out. Then, when I got good and could jump for a long time straight, they got sore here and there, again. Soreness doesn't last that long for me. But, when I started, I jumped only twice a week and then ramped it up.
I think you're doing it right. You just have to keep going.

I've been jumping, on and off, for a while. But, about two months ago, I stopped jumping the way I'd always done it (two feet together and hop) and started from scratch with the alternating foot method. It gives you soooo many more opportunities to recover, because you can shift your weight forwards or backwards, hop on one foot, two feet, etc. Without the alternating feet and ability to switch back and forth, it's hard to recover from a bad rope turn, speed up or slow down, or give yourself active rest while jumping.
Ross had a rope jumping lesson on Full Throttle Conditioning. But, you can see his basic rope jumping method in several of his video clips.
What I would tell people about starting out, is to keep your rope with you and jump for 5 minutes every day or so, as part of your warmup. When you are fresh is a good time to practice, not when you are already tired.
I love to jump rope. I wonder if that is something I can do or would all the jostling set me back?
I've got to come clean. The only way I've every eat eggplant is fried. It's awesome but I thing that it probaly loses something nutrionally.
It doesn't lose anything, but it sure gains something. Deliciousness.
My bridge from fried to not fried eggplant was to slice them very thin, spray them with olive oil (or brush them with it) and grill them on a very hot grill. They get a little charred and crispy. You can do it with or without skin.
Most of the time, we just eat them like that. While they are really hot, you just keep passing them out to people nearby. But, we also take them and layer them with sliced tomatoes, and very thinly sliced cheese, then drizzle them with olive oil, salt, basil (or pesto). Like a Caprise Salad, but with grilled eggplant thrown in.
Or, make some layers of cheese, meat, and eggplant, then cover it with some pasta sauce.
I was just gonna say that I'd seen several low carb lasagna recipes using eggplant for the noodles.
We had some awesome eggplant at one of Wolfgang Puck's restaurants a few years ago. It had an asian flair to it but I couldn't describe it beyond that. Thai Spiced Eggplant Recipe - Wolfgang Puck | Food & Wine I think this is pretty close.
Grilled is my favorite ways to eat eggplant (and zucchini)! Man, I can't wait for summer so I can eat out of the garden! Grilled eggplant topped with fresh tomatoes, eggplant lasagna, simmered eggplant & zuke tomato-ey goop.... *drool* (This log, along with Wendy's and Stingo's have to be the most drool-inducing places on the cyperplanet.)
I get itchy mouth and throat from bananas, tomatoes, melons, carrots, berries, etc. Doesn't stop me from eating them, though.
