Farmer's market this morning, where I got pretty stuffed with samples of fruit. Lots of persimmon, dates, pluots, and pumelo.
Picked up two kinds of persimmons. The firm "eat like an apple" kind and the soft kind that you can eat with a spoon. I got 3 of each and they're already gone.
Got some nice bell peppers, beets and extra beet greens (beet greens are awesome), and a big bag of asparagus tips.
On the walk home, I picked a bunch of dandelions and dandelion greens, then made an omelet when I got home. I used the greens in the omelet, but they were bitter, so I pulled them out and ate them on the side. In the future, I'll save them raw to add to salads.
Dandelion Omelet
3 eggs
1 tsp water or milk
1 tsp fresh lard
1 oz cream cheese
12 dandelion flowers, stems torn off at the bud
cooking spray
Beat the eggs in a small bowl, along with 1 tsp water or milk.
In a non-stick omelet pan, saute half the flowers in the lard, then spray the pan with cooking spray. Pour in the eggs. As the eggs begin to firm up, lift the edges of the omelet and allow the liquid egg to run underneath.
Soon, you will have a semi-firm omelet with a runny surface. Insert the raw flowers over half of the omelet, bud down, flower up. This half will end up being the pretty part that shows. Carefully flip the omelet, paying attention to where the flowers are.
Spread the cream cheese on the backside of the flowered side of the omelet and fold it so the flowers are facing up. Slide your omelet onto a plate. Serve with fruit. I suggest persimmon...
Tonight, I made soup. American pork and fresh veggies (zucchini, asparagus, peppers), bulgarian paprika, mexican "safron," and bangali cumin. The United Nations of Soup.
Had a lot of fun at the picnic with a bunch of JPers, family, and friends. Present were Chris (kuri), Elizabeth (fang), Kathy (msmogreen), Gwen (Karla's daughter, and screen name tbd), and all the family, friends, and significant others that come with this sort of thing.
About 15 or 16 of us, kettlebelling, and playing around with ropes, trx, sandbags, etc. Food, frisbee, skateboards, and other fun stuff. Pictures are coming.
One funny highlight was Gwen's frisbee splashing down in the lake, then drifting slowly to the other side to be recovered, 30-40 minutes later.
Forgot to log my swings last night. I still did them last night, but I dreaded them.
200 1 arm swings, 16kg. I just did them straight through, switching hands every 25.
Tonight's workout...
Warmup/mobility/prying
I was going to do 10 minutes of long cycle, but my jerk muscle wasn't cooperating. After two minutes, I paused for a minute, then continued one minute on, one minute off until the 10 minutes was blessedly over.
Snatch, 16kg - 10/8/6/4/2
Renegade Rows, 24kg - 8/8/8
Goblet Squats, 16kg - 10/12/12
Press, 24kg - 5/4+1/3+2 (sets of 5, going back and forth until I've done 5 on each side)
200 1 handed swings, 24kg - 10 per side for 2 sets of 100 swings
