OMG the waves were HYUGE and super-crashy. We lasted like three waves, got crushed, and resorted to making seaweed piles and hunting for sandcrabs! It was still fun, but we need to go back on another day that's better for boogie boardin'

Jealous I am... the closest body of salt water is the Long Island Sound . That's 3 more waves than I'll be riding until we go away at the end of the summer.

Great point. It could, however, be a good long wait until high-waisted, acid washed skinny jeans are back in
Re waves: you need to practice your wave taming skills here:
You need to adapt your waves to the level of your training, not the other way around
Re your workouts: very niiiiceeee
Re the flys landing on your calves: they are drinking clean shower water off you, this way they can be vertical while gravity simply works for them and the small droplets land lazily
Went on a nice hike for a couple of hours. Nice a relaxing. Silence, sun, and a lot of dirt. It was down near the ocean, so the views were nice.

That place looks beautiful. Welcome back to reality.
As to the flies. I was dry, so I don't know what their problem was. Stupid bugs!
Maybe you smell like coffee? Drink enough and it doesn't matter if you just showered -- it gets into your endocrine system, all the way from your deltards to your vibrams. Medical fact.

These past few posts basically create a mental picture of Roland as Patrick Swayze, running from the super-crashy waves to build seaweed piles, smelling strongly of coffee, with 50 or 60 flies hovering around his calves.
Had a nice workout tonight, despite some real morons being in my way. I'm usually pretty patient and just work around these people, but these guys were really something.
Guys 1 & 2 had no concept of how much room one needs to workout in the gym. No spatial awareness. Also, they were doing the worst bro workout EVER. ...and right over my head! In the beginning, I waited for them to finish something, then I laid down for my set, then repeated this once. Then, when guy 1 started doing db high pulls OVER MY HEAD, I gave him the stink eye, which he didn't really get. SO, I had to ask him to move. He moved like a foot. Moron.
Their routine was like this:
A1, DB High Pulls w/15lbs x10 reps
A2, DB Reverse Curls w/standing back extension, 7lbs x a million
A3, DB High Pulls, elbows WAY out w/10lbs x20 reps (at least)
A4, DB Ballistic sorta hammer curls w/drop sets w/15,12,10, and 7lbs x a shitload
Repeat three times
seriously
Later, I saw them doing many different types of db bench presses and flies.
Later later, I saw them doing some lateral raises and front raises with a variety of hand positions and ballistic hip thrusts. While doing this, they got in my way again and I had to tell them to wait until I was done before they could get in my space again. Jeez.
Guy 3 and 4 were just dumb with space. People were trying to get to the dumbbells, but they were super curling and shrugging up close to the rack. When people tried to take or rack dbs, they looked annoyed at US. Morons.
Ok, that's all.
My own workout.
A, DB Snatch, 75 (6), 85 (2/2/2/2) - per hand
B, DB Floor Press, 80 (3/2), 75 (2/2/2)
C1, Standing DB Row, 85 (3), 95 (3/3/3)
C2, DB Split Squat, 55s (3/3/3)
D1, Sternum Chinups (7/6/6)
D2, Pushups-feet on 2nd stair (15/13/10)
As a way to encourage my own compliance, I've decided to post that I'm trying to lose the fat over my abs.
I'm actually down a few lbs, since I halfheartedly started a week or so ago, but haven't really knuckled down until Sunday night.
Starting weight, 188lbs (Monday)
Around the belly/lovehandle region, 36" (pushed out to max)
Waist (where the band of my underoos rides), 34.5"
To give more info than I really like, I'm not sure that the measurements will go down much. It's a problem of "loose skin." It's not really loose skin, but a loose layer of fat under the skin. I can feel the fat, but it really just moves out of the way when I put the measuring tape around myself.
A month or so back, I was measured (by 3 independent trainers, one of which is a famous Bulgarian Fitness Personality) at 9% at 192lbs. Since then, I can see more detail in the serratus areas and the lower back AND I have less dunlop with the boardshorts. However, the measurements remain the same, illustrating my loose fat/skin issue.
A final word (not really) on the loose skin (which I don't believe I actually have) is this; the leaner I am, the less loose skin I have. There's a change from last year. I am confident, so I will try hard.
I don't know how many times I've said I'm going for the abs, so take this for what it's worth. I find it hard to be consistent in the low calories (I'm weak), and it takes pretty low calories for me to lose anything these days. I think that with my new found successes with intermittent fasting, that I can do this now. It may be slow, but I'm going for it.
Saw a study where intra-abdominal tension increases due to brief laugh intervals at brotards resulted in lower BF%. Also lowers cortisol.
So, your partner was doing kb snatches and chinups this morning in preparation for the competition. Get on them getups and snatches Roland. Some metabolic circuits would be advised too.

Roland, we are on the same quest for abs!! I know -- it's HARD!!! Damn that loose skin!
Any specific plan you are following? Or just IFing it?
I'm just going low calorie. IF on some mornings to help with food control. I tend to eat low carb when I'm eating low cal, just because it helps with cravings.
My primary issue in the past is overeating after a workout because I'm so hungry. Sooo, volume is way down on the lifts. Retain, retain, retain.
However, I will also eat a bit more on the weekends, but step up the activity levels so I can practice my events for Chris's upcoming competition.
Off Days -- 1750 cals
WO Days -- 2300 cals
I'm using 15 x bodyweight as my maint (2820), but really just taking a shot at beginning numbers. The reality is that these are how much I ate on monday and tuesday. A workout and non-workout day. See? Science.

For those who haven't seen it, here's the list of events.
Quote:
The six events are:
1. Turkish getups with a heavy sandbag for max reps in 60 seconds.
2. Kettlebell snatch for max reps in 3 minutes (one hand switch) guys 16kg, women 8kg
3. Metabolic circuit: 20 inverted rows, 100 jump rope singles, 20 box jumps, 100 jump rope singles
4. Rope tug of war. Last couple standing wins
5. partner wheelbarrow race (one person on hands, one holding their feet)
6. Obstacle course (may involve rope climbing, farmer's carry, sprinting, agility)
Ok. I've been practicing snatches with a 16kg dumbell... that's what I got. My form might suck and my arms bruised, but I think I can get a good number.
I'm still doing getups, so I'll step it up.
Inverted row, sprinting in sand, rope jumping practice, all coming up. Thanks for the reminder!
I'm finding that when I snatch a KB, it often turns into just a high swing-to-overhead. I guess that's paranoia about my shoulder, but I assume that's not correct form, that the elbow does need to break, right?

I'm trying to picture the TGUs. Does the sandbag have a handle, or do you need to balance it in an open hand?
I wouldn't expect to see more than 3 or so reps in 60 seconds, though.
