my virgin vibram voyage was wednesday, the night they arrived, and I walked 40ish minutes with tiny bursts of running.
today was the real cherry popper, except my vibrams aren't red, sorry guys. I walked 1/4 mile out to the road, then ran 1/4 mile, turned around and ran 1/4 mile. 1/2 mile no stopping and I FELT AMAZING!!! and FAST!! I actually think these things encourage me to have a quicker stride turnover. I was so happy that instead of walking 1/4 mile back down my path, I walked to the creek and back. it was a beautiful night out and the view of the sunset from the creek was magnificent.
am running 10 miles with my friends in the am, and I am resisting the urge to run in these. I know I need to build mileage slowly, so back to the mizuno waveriders which will feel like concrete blocks to me I'm sure.
Hooked hooked hooked I am. if they made them in stiletto version, I would buy every color.
Last night's workout. I'm eating pretty light during the week, still. Trying to, anyway. Mostly. With a few stellar failures... Anyhow, since WEDNESDAY, things have been good. Sooooo, I went with the lower volume workout, in hopes of not stimulating the HUGE appetite. So far, so good.
B1, Overhead Shrugs, 95 (12/12/12)
B2, Pullups (5/5/5) - note to self, pullups after rack pulls = too hard
Seems like the "laterals" got totally worked with the rack pulls, leaving my pullups sadly lacking. I can do more than 5, usually. Not today, and 5 was tough.
Also, I haven't done a lot of heavy pulling/rowing lately, and my hands freakin' hurt last night. Between my lats and my calluses, 5 was torture.
lol roland. ed was wearing red chuck taylors when we got married. on the beach. me in white sequined bikini, he in white polo shorts, white tank, red chucks. classic poor starving student wedding. we loved it! I think I have him interested in the red ones. he wears size 13-14 though, so they may not fit.
Those shoes would look great with a dark grey suit.
Yes!
I would actually like to get some dress shoes that are flat. I'm finding daily life in flat shoes to be much more comfortable than with a heel.

If his foot is longer than 12 inches, he could be out of luck and not as cool as the rest of us will be. Poor Ed.
Sounds like a nice wedding. The beach is the place.
If you can find a dealer go with him and get sized. I wear size 12 shoes, I had tonnes of room left on their little size gauge. You never know!
I've been wearing mine most of the day. Did some swings and other KB work. The weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful..let it snow. Oh ok it's not snowing it's just chilly out.

I did a run/walk/jog with bodyweight exercises. I'm so out of running shape. But, the real question is why do I care? I'm not sure, but it would be nice to be able to run 5k again without feeling like I might die.
3 rounds
A1, 1.1 mile lap around the lake (broken up by the following)
A2, feet elevated pushups (15/15/12)
A3, bench pistols (7/6/7)
A4, dips (12/11/10)
I ran by several benches today. Shoulda stopped and done some stuff.
Never even occured to me. PLUS it would screw up my run/walk intervals!
Good idea though, way to keep active. I should be throwing out some snatches instead of posting to your log. Oh well.

It seems like you just make up a lot of your workouts on the spot. Do you have concerns about missing some body parts, overdoing others? Is there a method to your madness? I'm asking because I have zero comfort level with going off a workout plan. There is just so much you could do, I get overwhelmed.

In general, one upper body push, one upper body pull, then a lower body exercise (alternating between quad and hip dominant on different days) is enough to cover the bases. The rest fills in the gaps.
Behind the scenes is the vague memory of what I did last time (exercise/sets/reps/weight lifted) to play off of. I know I'm doing okay because I'm making progress (I do look back at my numbers on major lifts).
However... I do have a plan written out that I follow most of the time. It's an A/B split with the progression all laid out. On the weekend (which would be C) I do wing it, since I don't know whether I'll be in the gym, the beach, the park, or at home.

No problem.
I don't know what program you're doing now, but someday you might want to try heading over to t-nation.com for a Chad Waterbury program called Total Body Training (TBT). It's a good program to ease into your own programming. The set/reps are laid out, and you get the choose the exercises from the categories. It's simple and pretty clear after that.
roland! you are rediscovering running! how very cool. I really like your idea of doing rounds of running alternating with strength. I know the perfect spot where I can do that here--we have a really cool pier that has benches--it is a 0.4 mile square underneath a bridge. so running on it is wonderful, because it is wood, and it is also on the halifax river, one of my favorite places to play. I might even do it in my vibrams!!
tomorrow night, I will attempt 1.5 miles. 1 mile went great today.

I used to run, but the farthest I've run on purpose was 10k (not A 10k, just 10k).
I'm okay with the idea of running short distances, fast(er). A 5k is something that I'm good with. As long as I could run a 10k and live, I'm good with that, too. Mostly, my plan is the stick with sprinting and running a mile and a 5k, and increasing my speed in those.
If you haven't been running at all, running mile repeats at a hard pace is a pretty aggressive place to start, even in über-fit men with their names shaved into their heads. Starting with 2 min run 1 min walk might help. Running is stressful until your body gets used to it.
5ks hurt like a mofo for me. I would rather do 10 10 min miles than 3.1 8:30 miles any day. Shorter distances hurt me unless I run them easy.
I told him, "There be Dragons", wasn't just written on the maps for fun...but noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Why listen to me?

Thanks Roland I will check out the Waterbury programs. Right now I'm doing NROL. About to finish break-in and then go on to FL1-3. We'll see how that goes.
And the farthest you've run not on purpose is . . . ? Was something chasing you?
Once, I ran for a long time, then realized that I was far away when I was "done." So I ran home. 7 miles.
Once, I got misdirected to the Marine base for a bootcamp run and was told to park in the wrong spot. I ran to the other end of the base (1.5 miles) and was then told that I was at the wrong end, so I had to run back. Then I had to run the 4 mile race (I think these are the numbers, it's been a while and the totalled up to a 10k when I added them up at the time).
