I was talking to my daughter about her gym class at middle school. They have to do some testing, and she wants to get a "5." I don't know what that means, but here's what she needs to do to get the 5 across the board.
2 pullups - not chinups, either (she's at zero)
45 situps in a minute (she's at 42, so far)
8:23 mile (she's at 12! )
36" sit and reach (she's getting close at 34)
shuttle run (she doesn't know the ranking, but she's almost there)
I'm really only surprised about the pullups. BTW, I think the boys have to do 5, not 2. Two of my daughter's friends (girls) can do 8-10 each. One's a tiny girl, but the other one is pretty tall and with longish arms.
Anyhow, my daughter has the wingspan of a condor, so there's no way she's getting to 2 anytime soon.
They get special t-shirts if they hit some of the higher ranks. The girls get a pink t-shirt when they hit the 6 minute mile. The boys get a black t-shirt when they hit 5 minutes. My daughter's tiny friend already has the boy's black t-shirt.
So, she's not liking all this testing and prepping for the testing. The two hard areas are so far out of her reach that she could care less. Not motivated.
On the plus side, her class continues to use the TRXs. She's one of the more coordinated with them, too. She gets to help the others on that day, since she's got it down.
OK. Today's workout. Done at home.
A1, Pushups -- feet on counter (13/12/12)
A2, NG Pullups (10/9/6)
A3, Reaching Lunges (12/12/12)
B1, TRX Pistols (5/5/5/5)
B2, NG Pushups (17/15/15)
B3, TRX Rows/Curls (17/15/15)
B4, Ab Wheel (15/13/9)
I miss my sandbag. It ripped a while back and I haven't looked for a new one. Time to order a new duffel and start with the sled, sandbag, swings, trx in the great outdoors. Mini-project, coming soon.
Good improvising Roland, and your mini-project sounds fun.
Your squats are coming along good?
Next time your up here we'll have to get an outdoor workout in. Just today I was going by an empty martial arts school for lease 1/2 block down from us, I look in and see one wall lined with DBs, KBs, dynamax balls, and C2 rowers. Pullup bars all along the wall, which can only mean one thing. A Crossfit is moving into the spot I was looking at. Anyway, maybe we can go have some fun there or down on the beach.

The best I can say is that there's evidence that they might be better when I try again. I've dropped them entirely for a while.
My DLs are bad, though. I tried them a while back and found that I've lost my old form and can't get the groove of the new form yet. I'm really weak in my "new and improved" DL position. Baby steps.

That sounds fun! It was too bad the beach was so crowded that day. Hopefully we can get down there when it's less crazy. A little crazy is workable!
I need some KB work at some point. I hope to buy a couple soon. Start practicing for the sport.
Hey ... I'm late to the party ... but kudos on the PR!
Regarding Allie ... maybe have her pick one of the 5 things that she wants to get better at and start there ... make it fun, more like games instead of drills or workouts, you know? You might be surprised at how fast she progresses!

Well I wouldn't fret too much about your DLs and squats, just grease the groove and keep working the mobility.
Yeah we have a hit the ropes/rings earlier or later in the day.
CA Chief - been a long time. Come on down anytime.

Perform Better has 30% off the elite comp bells right now. Same as the AKC bells (they stole the design and are having them made in the same factory. They are good at that )
We should do a KB session. Working with others really helped my technique.

That sounds good. I'm sure it will be running. That's the only thing that she's actually asked me for help with, so far.

I'm not TOO worried. Just a little bit sad. It was fun to be "good" at something, but I'm sure I'll be good at it again (after I'm repaired).

Those are the ones that Steve supplies with his certs now.
If I want to buy just enough to train to compete, what should I get? I'm confused. It looks like men compete with 24s or 32s, depending? Depending on what? Women compete with 16s or 24s?
I am sure yours is just as twisted Galya, hence the reason you get along with him so well...or something.
Are you doing all these swings and such at the gym? No KBs there? Are you about ready to get some for home? Assuming you don't already have em?

DBs. I don't have any KBs yet. I'm only tempted now because of the Girevoy Sport. Swings with a db and kb are about the same, and if I did a KB snatch with 110lbs, my forearm would shatter, so DBs have their place.

Yeah, I don't like working out at home. I like to be around people. Even the annoying ones.
I would workout at home with a workout partner, though. That would be fun.

Today's gym was kinda comical. It's not in stepford wives-esq Rancho Santa Margarita, deep behind the Orange Curtain... The clientele in this one is a little more toward the jacked bro vs the little bro. Also comical is the entertaining presence of the douche-types in wife beaters AND the asian dudes with actual anime hair. ...also in wife beaters. There's also a lot of oldsters (more wife beaters).
Here's a sighting list for today:
fanny packs, 4 at least
velcro walking shoes, uncountable
work gloves, 1
lifting belt with X suspenders, 1
those yellow-ish work boots, 2
t-shirts with something about Cuba, 3
Huge over-the-ear headphones, 1
t-shirts with something about hemp or with a pot leaf pictured, uncountable
Walkman (cassette tape variety), 2
I'm guessing there wasn't much crossover between the two "uncountable" groups of velcro shoes and pot leaf shirts? Could be wrong, though.
Have the leaning side raises been part of your routine in the past? I didn't remember them, so had to look them up. The leaning makes sense to activate the things that will help your brokenness.

I saw a teenager today in Borders with an actual MULLET!! I wanted to whip out some scissors and cut it off for him because it was OBVIOUS he'd missed the memo. Poor guy.

True. The fanny packs and velcro shoes were comfortable together, though.

More like this guy. But yes, I have done them before. I think they might actually be called Lean Away Lateral Raises. A sweet exercise for your laterals.

Speaking of which, there were some little guys at the gym a few weeks back talking about working their laterals. Lat pulldown and lateral raises. All the stuff needed to target one's laterals.

But mullets are an endless source of fascination. Look at this fine young thang....
I screwed up the workout from yesterday. Trying again.
