Egham's Training Log
Inspired by the 61-Day Challenge, I’ve decided to maintain a more permanent log here. My 56th birthday seems a good time to start it.
My goal is simple - A fit and healthy life.
That said, I’m totally slacking off today. More to follow.......

Thanks, guys!
I started the TT August DB-KB-BW Fusion Workout today. I don’t have kettle bells, but Craig allows the substitution of dumbbells.
A Warm-up circuit of twice through –
Prisoner Squat – 10
Pushups – 8
Reverse Lunge – 8/leg
Spiderman climb – 5/side
Followed by 3 sets of the the following supersets –
1A) 1 leg squat w/ KB or DB - 6/leg (15 lb dbs, 0, 0)
1B) DB incline press – 8 (30 lb dbs)
2A) 1-leg RDL w/KB or DB - 10/leg (30 lb dbs)
2B) DB or KB Row – 8-12/arm (30 lb dbs)
3A) DB or KB Squat – 20 (30 lb dbs)
3B) Decline Push-up – 20 (14,10,5)
I selected my weights conservatively, wanting to focus more on form at this stage of the program than anything else. With the exception of the 1 leg squats, I’ll be increasing them the next time around.
I woke up feeling quite stiff this morning and that stiffness really compromised my ability to do 1 leg squats to any depth and my difficulties balancing on my left foot didn’t help matters. I made it through the first set with some weight, but dropped back to bodyweight squats to work on form…..I still have work to do on that.
Decline push-ups are difficult for me to begin with and they proved more than I could handle today. Something to work on.
Intervals will follow once the temperature drops a bit this evening.

Happy (belated) birth day Egham!
Decline pushups are done how? With legs elevated on a aerobics bench?

Thanks, everyone! The 61-Day challenge worked for me, so I thought I'd stick around in the Training Log Sub-forum. I appreciate your encouragement.

You have the picture. I use the basement stairs, but anything that you can place your feet on so that they are higher than the floor will work. The higher your feet are elevated, the greater the load on your arms when you do pushups. I'm still near the high end of my weight range right now, which makes these even tougher than usual.
-----------
It never did cool down last evening. We had a very brief thunderstorm that did nothing but add to the humidity....What an oven! I still managed to squeeze out some intervals, and immediately hit the lake for cool-down. That helped some, but with our water temp thermometer reading 87F, it wasn't the cool down I really wanted. It looks like temps and humidity will be even worse today....I broke a sweat this morning just watering our outdoor potted plants.
We're headed to Atlanta in a couple of hours. Mrs. Egham has a half-day meeting there tomorrow morning and she still doesn't feel quite confident enough to fly on her own, schlepping luggage, etc. So, I'm driving her down there.......It's about 4.5 hours. We'll be back either tomorrow evening or Wednesday, depending upon whether or not we spend the night at my MIL's in SC.
The TRX is going with......

Well, we're back from our quick trip to Atlanta with a stop over on the way back at the MIL's.
Day 2 Strength Training - 7 Aug 2007
I took my TRX to Atlanta and did the Military Fitness Guide Day 2 Strength Training workout in the hotel room yesterday morning while Mrs. Egham was in her meeting.
(1 set each)
Exercise - specified reps (actual reps)
Suspended Incline Press - 10 (1)
Suspended Crunch/Pushup – 10 (7)
Single Leg Chest Press – 6,6 (6,6)
Elevated Back Row – 15 (15)
Single Arm Power Pull – 10,10 (10,10)
TRX Swimmer’s pull – 10 (10)
Y Deltoid Raise – 8 (8)
T Deltoid Fly - 8 (8)
Low Deltoid Fly – 8 (8)
Standing Back Extension – 12 (12)
Suspended Pendulum – 16 (16)
Suspended Oblique Crunch – 8,8 (8,7 w/ 4,3 on elbows)
Suspended incline shoulder presses are HARD! I expressed some doubt about even getting into the proper position to do these back when I first got my TRX and looked through the guide. LD responded that getting into position isn’t all that difficult, it’s the presses that are hard. My response to him was “I wonder if I can do 2?” Well, the answer is now in….It’s a clear “NO”. I only managed one and perhaps somewhat over a half of the second before collapsing. So, my goal is now to do 2……someday…
They also ruined my chances of completing the specified reps for the Suspended crunch/pushups. I also had to drop to my elbows to get as far as I did with the oblique crunches.
All in all, a good workout that left me drenched and out of breath. Fun!
--------
This morning, in the steambath that was Greenville, SC, I went out for an early run. 5.9 miles in 50:30 (8:34 / Mile)....I get real slow when conditions are like this.

Excellent! Wouldn't you say that getting into that position is part of the workout?

Good TRX workout, Egham! I haven't even tried it yet. I guess I'm just really needing this week off. I haven't done much of anything in the way of fitness. But, I'm planning on trying Jill's 1st workout on Saturday morning. Should be interesting. Are you still doing the August TT?

Thanks LD.
Absolutely! Getting into position was no small task and was perhaps a major reason I couldn't crank out 2 reps. Now that I've done it once, I should become a bit more proficient at it, but I don't foresee it ever becoming easy.

Thanks, Victoria! Everyone needs a week or so off every few weeks, so enjoy it!
Yes, I'm still working on the August TT workout. The trip to Atlanta slowed things down a tad, but I'll run through workout B this afternoon and C on Saturday. All I'm really trying to do with it this week is to run through the workouts to make sure I'm doing things correctly. I'm not paying close attention to rest periods between exercises and sets.....just trying to mkae sure I have things down. I'll "officially" start the program next week.
