I went to the movies alone last year on Christmas. Probably will later, too. Not seeing Marley and Me, though. I'm seeing Milk! haha kidding. no freakin' way.
Valkyrie or The Day The Earth Stood Still, probably.

Merry Christmas, Jane.
Too bad we couldn't have gone together, Roland! My good friend and neighbor saw me outside with Violet and stopped and invited me down to her house. I hadn't seen her in a couple months.....her baby is due in 10 days (on my birthday!). So, I went down and had a couple BIG glasses of wine. I feel better. Maybe I'll do the movies this weekend for a little "me" break.
I think New Years = Jane Spa Time!!! A little stress relief and taking care of you....I"m sorry your Christmas was in the hospital! Hoping for you and your family the new year is a better one!!!
It's amazing what 2 weeks off, little sleep, and a crap diet can do to a workout....if that's what you want to call it. But, it's all I got and here it is.....

A guy was benching 405 at the gym today. Color me impressed.
I'm glad things are getting better for your mom in terms of the sundowners. I hate the fact that you are facing the decision you are about your mom at Christmas time. The last hospitalization with Bob's dad before he passed was the breaking point for Bob. If his dad wouldn't have passed, he would have had to go to a nursing home because it was to the point where Bob and his mom couldn't take care of Andrew any more. It wasn't an easy thing for Bob to admit that it had reached that point, but both he and his mom were exhausted from taking care of Andrew.
And thank you for remembering to tell everyone to treasure the holiday time with their family. It was so good to head home for Thanksgiving and spend time with my mom and Grama. Grama is still going on about the attention and care Bob and I gave her. Her Christmas card to me made me cry when I read it.

Actually, Julie, going to the movies by myself and going out to eat by myself is something I have no problem with and actually really enjoy! I just couldn't do it on Christmas. This year, especially, it was too damn depressing!
I'm working on my 2009 goals and I am determined to make 2009 a great year. While I sure had my share of crap in 2008, it was still a good year for my goals, so I am hoping for a repeat of that or better in 2009. Thanks for thinking about me!
Well, I had wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas, Jane, but I pooped out before I got to your log. So, now, I hope you have a great New Year's Eve & Day and a beautiful 2009! You deserve it!
No barbells at your gym?? That's unbelievable!! Maybe you should be looking at a new gym for your New Year's resolution! LOL!
Indeed! I've been grappling with the right decision there!
I've no barbell because I do a lot of my working out in an unsupervised gym at my apartment complex and the English are very committed to health & safety. (I learned this when I asked for/ offered to fund a barbell set. I was told that insurance policies wouldn't support it.)
Here's my hangup...or maybe just an excuse... the only gym within a fifteen minute walk from my house has a "women's weights area", which i just found ridiculous.
My office gym has barbells, so I could go there; although, there would be waiting for equipment. I've been considering doing just my barbell stuff there, even if it's deviating from the defined workout.
What keeps me possibly limiting myself to working around the lack of barbell is that working out in the apartment complex gym means a completely empty weight room at 930-10 at night, allowing me to be as clumsy as I like with no waiting for equipment. It's wonderful to feel like I have all the space and time I need to get an exercise right, and I know I won't have that in a packed gym. That said, I have run out of plates on the cable machine for my lift, so I have to find a way to up the challenge.
Did you find that it made *that* much difference? I'll give myself a kick in the pants to use the big bar at the office gym, regardless!
I've enjoyed reading your log. Your progress in inspiring, and I definitely idenitfy with your early reference to the diet challenges.
So, Olympics junkie, which event is your favorite? (and thanks for your message!)

Hope you stop back by to read this reply! I have to say that barbells make a HUGE difference in my workouts. I use them for my squats, BO rows, OH presses, bench presses, my olympic lifting, etc, etc. That said, I also do all the pushing/pressing exercises with dumbbells, too. I alternate between unilateral and bilateral moves so it's essential for me to have both barbells and dumbbells. I'm doing Power Training right now. But, I also used BB's a lot during NROL and NROL4W. I just really love using them.
hmmm.....my favorite olympic event? hard to say....I love the skiing in the winter, and I love the swimming in the summer. But, now that I've started oly lifting, I love to watch what little of that that is televised as well. I just love all of the olympics!
Good luck with your gym dilema and thanks for stopping by!
Update: Mom seems to be doing a bit better. We have her stabilized mentally (finally) so we haven't had to be there 24x7 for the last couple days. She seems to be making slow improvement, or else it's just wishful thinking on my part. Thanks to all of your for the well wishes; it means a lot to me.
Violet and I are getting on just fine. She is doing well and she's a little love! I am still pretty tired and just feel beat up, but I did manage a sort of workout, which follows.

Jane is she still in the hospital or has she been moved to rehab yet?
Julie, she is in the hospital, but she has been moved to their rehab unit. She's been in the rehab unit for a week and the entire team meets to assess each patient weekly, every Tuesday. So, today I should get some sort of an update. She's far away from being released, so I'm pretty sure the update will be "another week of rehab and then reassess". So, I'm more anxious for NEXT Tuesday's update/meeting.
Good grief! My food choices have been poor lately, to say the least! In the last 2 weeks, I have gone from my all-time low (well, since I can remember) to my high of the last 5 months! Wow! Who knows where I will land for starting pics! LOL! This is crazy!

Meh, don't worry about it. How's everything going?
Jane, glad to hear that your mom is improving and that Violet is doing well.
We went to see Marley and Me yesterday. A must see for any dog lover. I was surprised at how much it focused on the relationship between the hubby and wife. A little TMI for my 9 year old. I thought it woud be all about the dog. Still good though. Bring tissues!
