and then I read your workout.. wow, your new coach really puts you through the wringer..you rock lady! I'm having such an easy time in comparison.
And that is just sooooo true. I can't freaking believe how people *think* they do snatches and cleans.. it is just wrong on so many levels. There's a lady I know who says she does 60kg hang cleans.. there's no way those can be actual 60kg hang cleans from what I remember how she did them.
You know, there's another word for inverted rows /horizontal pullups, that's even more descriptive
They are hard and such a great assistance exercise to improve on actual pullups, since what you *do* is so similar, even though the plane is horizontal instead of vertical.
Lat pull downs didn't help me as much as supine rows/fat (wo)man pullups did. Or weak (wo)man pullups?
When I did them like twice a week I worked up to adding 8kg dumbbells that I slip behind a belt that's in the gym. This was also when I was on an accidental bulk... eating up is soooo great for strength
The advantage of the horizontal pullups over vertical ones is that even when you can do a real pullup , it will mostly be just 1 up to maybe 3, while you can work up to 8-12 reps for the horizontal ones = in hypertrophy range.
Thanks, guys....I'm very happy. It took me FOREVER to find Sophie. And, I debated a long time before I actually made the decision to get her. Once I got her, she filled am empty space in my heart.....an empty space that heartbreak had put there a long time ago. So, when she was killed, it just tore me apart and left that empty space there again. I wasn't sure if I would be ready for another puppy, but I knew that if I were to get one, I wanted it to be her sister. So, when my breeder let me know that Sophie's parents were pregnant again, I immediately knew that I was ready. I'm sure that Violet will fill that empty space again. Merry Christmas to me!
and this time around you are connected to the local dog community, right? You've been going to their gatherings and getting used to all the sizes and flavors of dogs for yourself (and dog people - which is an acquired taste )
best of luck to you

Yes, Lisa!! You are right about that! They've been so nice and so supportive, though. And, I have made good friends with a standard poodle (which is the breed that killed Sophie), so I am much more at ease around poodles. The next meeting isn't until right after the first of the year, so that's when they will meet Violet and we will start puppy training there mid-January, too.
By the way, I volunteered at a "show and go" last weekend that they sponsored, which I'd never heard of before, and I was so amazed at how smart these dogs were!! It was really fun!

Coach Dos' Power Training - STRENGTH Routine Workout B of Phase 3 (ie weeks 7-9) Workout 2 of 10
Explosive Work
Did 4 sets of 5 Clean and Jerks, working on form and technique. Practicing more from Tuesday's lesson. Having trouble with the transition from the hang to the high chest. Got the floor to the hang part of it, but it's that hang to the high chest that's got me stuck. And, then smoothing putting it all together. Jerks all felt good, though.
Front Squats
6x60
5x65
5x65
4x45
*Worked on getting ATG on all of these. Putting myself in the position that the coach wants me in when I catch the bar. I felt myself losing form on that third set and not getting quite ATG, so dropped it WAY back to really get it right. The last phase of the Strength program I was doing those drop sets, so these are more reps than I was doing before, so probably the most reps at 60-65.
Single Leg RDL
5x45 oly bar
5x45
5x45
5x45
*is it my imagination or am I getting a bit better at these. I am DEFINITELY good when my right leg is down, but not when my left leg is down (and I'm left-handed...go figure).
Narrow grip push-ups
5
5
10
5
2 Pt DB Row
5x30
5x35
5x30
*2 pt much harder than using the bench
Your workouts are totally kicking ass lately, Jane. Between your coach and these PT strength gains - nice job!
I am so excited for you and really proud of all the work you have done mentally with the dog group. That had to be tough to do and it speaks volumes of how strong of a lady you are.

Well, we made it! Had to drive in a freak ice/snow thing that happened JUST as I was going to the airport. But, my friend drove and we just took it slow. Violet's flight was late getting in and she was very frightened at first, but she calmed down after a while. Then, last night at home, she just hung with me all night and wouldn't let me out of her sight. I had forgotten just how tiring it can be with a new pup! She's completely different than Sophie, personality-wise, and that's sort of hard for me even though I KNEW that's how it would be. Violet is a talker! I can tell where I will have my work cut out for me!
It's hard to get shots of her, but here are a couple.
