The Coach Dos workout looks really interesting. I'll have to keep following to see how it goes!
Good for you learning to swim! My BF can't swim or float. It's amazing, he just sinks. So, he's always afraid of his son in the water. I keep trying to convince him to take swimming lessons with his son, but he's convinced he'll never be able to do it. Instead, I get to take the kid in the water (which I love!).
You are doing great with your pushups. I haven't been as on top of them this week. I might try to do them on weight days, it was harder for me to do them on off days. I will see though.
I love watching your weight days. You rock.

One ... people, especially women, float. We have enough body fat and "built in life jackets" to keep us afloat. Start in shallow water and float on your back. Watch what happens when you take a deep breath and then exhale it all. Notice how your buoyancy changes.
Now, go underwater (plug your nose if you must) and curl into a ball. You can still be in the shallow water, but try to curl up on the bottom of the pool. Now, relax (stay in a ball) and watch how you will "pop" up to the surface.
Two ... hum. If you are humming, then two things happen. First, your mouth is closed, so no water can come in ... and second, air is coming out your nose, so no water can come in. So take a deep breath, close your mouth and start to hum. Slowly lower your face into the water. The bubbles will come out your nose ... but you won't get water in your nose.
Three ... get a swimcap and goggles. Keeping your hair out of your face might help ... so if no swimcap, then braid it or something. And goggles will help you see ... which often makes people feel less clausterphobic and lessens fear.
You WILL get it ... I taught many adults, some of whom did not even like to sit on the edge of the pool with their feet in. They all ended up doing a passable crawl stroke or breaststroke.
And kudos to you for facing your fears!

Thanks! The push-up program is definitely getting harder for me in week 3!

Julie, thanks for all of the tips!!! Since I DO know how to float, I'll try the breathing/buoyancy relationship. Good stuff. My hairdresser gave me the same tip about humming! And, she also made me promise to wear a swim cap, so that I will definitely do. I was thinking about goggles, as well, and now I will add that to my list of things to get. It sounds like it would really help me a lot.
Thanks! I'll keep you posted!!

Great, Wendy!! This is good for me to hear and it motivates me to succeed. I love Ryan Lochte. He's a nut!! So funny! How wonderful for you to live somewhere where you can be trained by his sis. Wow!!
AAARGGH! Work is going to kill me this week. I had to go in AGAIN last night and work from 11PM-4AM after working all day the previous day. So, this morning I roll BACK into work about 11 AM and find out I have to come in AGAIN tonight at 11 PM until who knows when. I don't even know what day it is or what I am doing! LOL Last night I did walking lunges all over the building in between code elevates. At least it was something.
Supposed to workout tonight, but I just don't think I have it in me. But, I probably won't tomorrow night either. Grrrr.......I hate when my sleeping schedule gets screwed with.
WORD! That's how my whole month of July was. Not quite the same middle of the night hours, but my days were insanely long and all I could do when I got home was sleep. It sucked!
Good for you getting some form of a work out in! It's better than just sitting there being frustrated, waiting for something to finish processing!

That's what everyone said before I got Sophie and you know.....she slept thru the night from Day 1! I actually would get up to make sure she was OK because everyone said I'd be up all the time! Eventually, I just knew she liked to sleep in, so every morning I'd have to go wake her up!! I miss it!
OK, I'm now back at work waiting AGAIN on code, so, hopefully someone will still be on the boards so I can kill some time. Or, I'm back to walking lunges again.
Still waiting to hear if I am going for the third night in a row of this crap. Geez. I am so messed up on my food, sleep, and exercise.
Waiting to see how the day goes. May go home, take a nap, and go to the gym for some LISS this evening. I just don't think I want to do a heavy-duty Power Training workout with what I've been thru the past 5 days. May do more harm than good. I certainly don't want to injure myself because I went to the gym on not enough rest and fuel and tried to lift.
If I DON't have to go back into work tonight, then I will pick up with my lifting on Friday evening, meaning I only missed one lifting workout. If I DO have to come back in and work all night, I'll hold off another day and try for Saturday.
Could all these days of hard work be the catalyst for you to request a gym at work and maybe pick what goes in it (...after all, seeing that you're practically living there)?
Love that you're tweaking the workout timing given what's been happening.

Congrats on your scale low today. Looks like you're doing well as usual/expected.
Thanks, Tom....slow, but sure.

I WISH!! Although, when I workout, the last people I would want to see would be my co-workers! LOL! I see WAY enough of them.

Thanks, Ginger! Well, I decided not to go the gym tonight...but I did do my pushups. Tomorrow, back at it full speed!

VERY HARD!! In case anyone's counting, that's 71 push-ups (on 3 hours of sleep no less!)
Jane, I'm just catching up on your log after a busy week driving to and fro...what a crazy week for you! That one takes the cake for sure. I hope things slow down for you now. Is the worst part that you have to miss lots of Olympics?! I know, you have tivo, I have a dvd recorder, but it's not the same. Anyway I don'thave time to watch all that I've recorded anyway..

I have no idea how I managed to lift it all to get those damn things slid under, but I did it. I moved it all and rearranged like FIVE times. I was exhausted. And, then I HATED it. Had to move it all back. THREE hours later, it was all back. I am counting that as a damn good workout. I am SORE today!! And bruised all over.
Lessons learned:
1. Graph out room and furniture to scale on paper before moving stuff
2. Don't attempt by yourself
Did I mention I am SORE! And, nothing to show for it.
Well, you have a good workout to show for it! I'm the same way--I can't visualize furniture and how it will look rearranged. I use my husband for that.

HARD today!! My right front shoulder is a bit sore from last night's workout.
Great progression on the pushups--I couldn't believe how much harder week 3 sets were. It seemed like they really jumped in intensity.

YES! It ISN'T the same watching the Olympics recorded! Every night that I was at work I would get on these calls and threaten anyone who was on the calls at home and watching the Olympics that they better not say anything on the calls!! There were several of us so upset that we were missing the games! UGH! I wait 4 years for this and then have the week from hell at work. No fair!
As for the furniture, all I have to show for it today is about 100 bruises on my legs! I hope they fade before pics next month.
Week 3 pushups are killing me. When I did the test at the end of Week 2, I even had to step down to level 1 and it's STILL killing me. It's going to be a stretch for me to successfully complete that 3rd workout in Week 3.
Wow, those numbers are so impressive. I remember back when the 1st challenge started and many of us couldn't do a regular push-up. So, not only do your pictures tell the story, but so do your numbers!
Hope work is calming down for you!

Are you KIDDING? I can remember getting excited for the Olympics as a youngster! My mom was always a huge fan, so I grew up in such awe of the Olympic athletes. I have always been a huge olympics fan.
