Hi Jane,
I have a question for you, do you have Sirius? Just wondering. I saw that you had mentioned hearing something on Howard Stern and I have been wanting to ask you, if you listen. Not many women like the show, but I have been a listener for a long time. When they switched to satellite, I had to get it and get it all set up. I think he is an awesome interviewer. I alternate between listening to him and channel 21.
Just curious.

Hey Ginger! Oh yes! I've had Sirius since before Howard got there. Love it! Still listen to Howard every morning. I listen to channel 21 a LOT. I'd say that's my favorite music channel. I also like 18 and 20 sometimes. There are a few others I alternate between for a change, too!

I was wondering! Some of the songs you had suggested are ones that I hear on that channel!
I used to listen every morning, now I turn it on in the afternoon. I swear, there were mornings when he had someone on there and I couldn't get myself to leave the car.
If I am in the mellow mood, I'll listen to channel 30 (i think, coffeehouse). I just love Sirius and I am anxious to see what happens with the merger, finally going through.

Yep, I'd say Channel 21 pretty much sums up the bulk of my playlist! I've always been into more alternative music. My new favorite workout song is The Ting Tings -- Shut Up and Let Me Go!
I'm the same way in the mornings......I have to leave my car right in the middle of a great interview or bit. Then, at lunch I sometimes will turn on the west coast feed (channel 101) to try and catch some of what I missed. Then, on my way home, I can sometimes go back to channel 100 and catch some more. Then, if it's a commercial break, it's right back to channel 21.

LOL - Two peas in a pod about this, I swear!

I wish you lived near me -- we'd be great buds! Working out, listening to Sirius, hitting the sales.
Me, too. We definitely need to get something scheduled. I would drive there one Saturday morning, if you ever want to make a day of it. We could have a Girls' day.

Man, this scale is just teasing me. For the past 2 weeks I just bounce around the same 1/2 pound. I've been good with the food, so I either need to increase my NEAT or cardio or drop the calories a bit, which I am hesitant to do since I am doing Power Training and it's pretty intense. I've been really lax on the cardio, so I guess I just need to buck up and do it! I can't believe how hard these last few pounds are compared to the first 23!
Side planks. I just started rotating these into the mix. They are hard! Really hard! I can't seem to get my positioning just right on them. What's the secret?

I would increase the cardio and/or NEAT before lowering your calories, Jane. Your workouts are tough and you need that food. I thought of you last night when I was working with my trainer, because even though I was throwing around much weight - I was drained and I know it's the deficit, but after feeling SO strong for so long, it kind of sucked.
As for the side planks, mine weren't necessarily pretty but I was feeling them. I was sweating so much and he had me on a bad so my elbow kept sliding. I stack my feet on top and use that arms to raise myself up. Does that make sense? They are hard and it made me realize that I probably need to start doing some more focused core work, now that the belly fat is starting to recede.

I miss Howard! I have XM in my car. I'm hoping that the recent merger-approval will finally allow me to listen to him again.
Yay! Another fan. I swear, I have been around some people (especially women) who totally think I am a freak, because I like the show and listen to it. I don't get it. You ladies make me feel better.

I've been listening to Howard since 1991 when I was living in Philly. I looooove him and I was so disappointed when he went to Sirius. You can always guage whether or not someone is cool by whether or not the "get" Howard.
Jill, you will be getting him just in time to hear all about the wedding plans. It will be interesting to see how he re-introduces himself to all of the XMer's and gets you guys caught up on everything.
I'm going to start this plan today (thanks, Frog!!!). I think I will do it before my actual workout when I am still fresh. Seems like a good goal to work on through the challenge. I figure I was finally able to even DO a pushup in the last challenge....if I can do 100 in this one, then that will be a real achievement!! It sounds like fun, and I am so getting that tshirt on the website when I do it!
I don't know if this helps, but you do a lot of side plank style work when you do advanced pilates (except instead of being on your elbow, you have to be on your hand- which is rough). What the instructors are always saying is to make sure you focus on your core and your powerhouse (which is the underneath of the bum and your inner thighs). Focus on taking the work out of just your stomach or your hand/elbow and think about your whole body helping you out. I find that when I concentrate on helping with my bum and inner things, that my hand lightens and it gets easier. Just a thought.
Good grief.. you made me wonder what news I missed and then upon going back to the last page, LOLOLOL"d loud. Yeah, I'd seen that.
Hello mom!!
Karla, isn't it the other way around? Dogs always asking for food so you give them some of yours?
I think Espi just had a heart attack!!!!!
Jane, I'm doing the 100 pushup thing too--although I didn't list it as a goal since I had them all neatly done up into 6 goals.

Lat Pulldown

5 x level 6 (wide grip)
6 x level 6 plus extra plate (underhand grip)
**I have found out that the lat pulldown plates are NOT 10 lbs each and the extra plate is NOT 5 lbs. So far, from my investigation, it appears the plates are 12 lbs and the extra plate is 6.5 lbs. So, it could be that my 6x60's were really 6x72's and so on. Until I hear back from Cybex, I'm just going to log my workouts using the plate number, since I have obviously been underestimating my weight.
Weighted Swiss Ball Lateral Roll

8x10
8x10

100 secs static plank
30 secs side plank

Will try to start the 100 pushup program tonight, but don't know if I should really do it on my off lifting days. Hmmm.....I'll give it a got, but I'm thinking it might be better to do the program fresh instead of already spent from working out.
OK, I did Day 1 of the 100 push-up program, but looking ahead I can see that this is going to have to be on off-lifting days. I'll do Day 2 tomorrow and from then on every other day (non-lifting).
OK, I got the final definitive answer from Cybex regarding their machines. This goes for the cable machines, the lat pulldown, and the row....all the machines with the selectorized weight stacks. So, if any of you are using Cybex machines at your gym, here's the scoop.
The plates are numbered 1 thru 20 (or whatever...some may have smaller or larger stacks). Each plate is 12.5 lbs. The extra add-on plate is 6.25 lbs. For simplicity, I'm just going to count it as 6 lbs in my log.
So, you'll be seeing a jump in my weights next time I log and that's why. I FINALLY know how much those darn plates weigh. FINALLY.
Good to see someone as obsessed w the actual wt of plates as I am
There's a gym nearby that is in some ways better suited to my training as it has more equipment, esp. for training legs, but the disarray there and the fact that nobody really knows what the weight is of the stacks on the various machines or having tons of unlabeled dumbbells that are all over the place, drives me bonkers!
Well, everyone at the gym was giving me different answers, so I just contacted the manufacturer direct! Straight from the horse's mouth! It's been driving me crazy for a year.

So, first workout was 5 sets:

5
4
10
Jane, I was planning on doing mine today, on lifting days. Doesn't it seem logical that we shouldn't "lift" our body weight on rest days? This way all the lifting type activities will be on one day. What is your reason for switching it around?

Holy cow! This is really for all the machines? I've been using the lat pulldown and the cable crossover. I wondered why 80# seemed so hard but I can do 2 chinups. Yay I feel so much stronger already!!!

My reasoning is because after doing chest presses, rows, jackknife pushups I was WHIPPED! This program is just going to get too taxing to do on a lift day for me.

This is for CYBEX machines. I'm sure all machines are different.
I just made a little conversion chart for myself to tape on the back of my workout worksheets...I did it pretty quick, but I think the math is right (the ".5" indicates when I add the plate and I'm just counting the plate as 6 lbs even instead of 6.25):
