Thank you all SO much for your kind words and thoughts during this difficult time. It's been a rough few days.
To update: I called the city regarding the fact that there was no separate entrance for small dogs and their owners at the dog park. This forced small dog owners to walk through the big dog area to get to the small dog area. The city told me there had been other complaints about this, but they just hadn't got the new entrance done. Well, I was furious. Had they done it, Sophie would still be alive. By the end of day Monday, the new entrance had been installed. Amazing that it took her death to get them to do this.
The other dog was a rescue dog (standard poodle) and was euthanized. The police called to let me know today.
I'm having a very hard time with this whole thing and my friends (on and offline), my family, co-workers, and neighbors have been so comforting to me. I just can't believe this happened. I feel so bad for little Sophie. I just loved her so much.
Here's the story in the local news and it's actually been picked up nationally, as well. I just hope that Sophie's story will save another dog from such an unnecessary demise.
As hard as this is Jane, I am so glad to see an update from you. You are in my thoughts so much and I have just been bummed that I had no way to check on you, so thank you for taking the time to do this.
Again, I am so sorry this happened. I can't imagine your pain.

I'm glad you weren't hurt getting charged like that. What a shame and a loss. I'm also glad the other dog owner was cooperative and sympathetic. I hope when you get to feeling better that you'll want to get another dog, they are such special critters, it's not good to be dogless.... And remember the Rainbow Bridge. I know it's sappy as all get out, but I think it's true
Jane,
Just wanted to offer condolences as well--I'm so sorry about what happened to Sophie. I have lost several dogs over the years, and it hurts enough when it's expected and not in such a violent manner. I can't imagine going through that incident. Hope you're doing as well as can be expected.
Celeste
Jane... I'm glad you're back and hope that the support you get from friends helps you through this time.
It's horrible that it took Sophie's death to get a new gate at the park. My DH has run past bow wow beach many times and when I told him about it, he said he was aware of lots of aggressive dogs there. It's just so sad...
Like Susan said, hopefully one day you will have another little best friend to follow you around and be under your feet...
Oh my god! I just read this - I'm so sorry to hear about your baby, Jane. I don't know what else to say but my heart is breaking just reading about it.

I was torn between this and Starting Strength. What I liked about Power Training is that I got to choose what exercises I wanted to do. For example, I may have to do a knee-dominant exercise in a workout and there is a list of knee-dominant exercise from which to choose. So, basically, you get to build your own workout based on the template and guidelines that Dos provides. Also, he is working everything both unilaterally and bilaterally, which I like. I will start with the 12-week total fitness routine and then move into Hypertrophy or Strength. Each workout will be 4 sets of 9 different exercises for this phase. I'll pick back up on my HIIT, as well.
So, I'll post more once I get back into the swing of things.
