Last night at the gym, I was admiring a woman from behind (purely for aesthetic reasons! -- not that there's anything WRONG with that). Anyway, I was thinking how great she looked -- very in shape and muscular. Then, she turned around and faced me and I would guess she was 60 years old. WOW! She looked so great. I want to be her now and when I am her age. What an inspiration!
Absolutely nothing wrong with checking out fit gals at the gym. Carry on.

Congratulations on the puppy! How are you doing with it? I was hesitant about getting an indoor dog, but we did in November 2006. It took some getting used but she lights up our lives!

She's only 3 weeks old, so she won't be coming "home" until April 11! I'm nervous!!
Awww, puppy is growing! She is adorable.
Congrats on your numbers. Good stuff.

I am always checking out the in shape women at my gym. I think it's nice to notice and appreciate people's hard work.

I was, too! It was, and is, so wrong in my parents' opinion to have a dog in the house. I felt I had committed a crime. It took about 3 months to adjust, but she is sooo worth it. I'll put her in my avatar again so you can see! Good luck! I'm happy for you!

Wow! Thanks so much!! This means a lot coming from the guy who started it all! Month 3, here I come!
I look at the girls too... I've always been terrible about comparing myself to others. Today there was this gorgeous girl in the gym... she was thin, but probably not very strong.. and she had her hair all down and pretty and make-up on... while i'm doing my HIIT after my lifting and sweating like a pig, haha. But it made me realize I've come a long way already... a few months ago I would have thought "Wow, I want to look like that" But now I think "Come on chikidee.. real women sweat! and get muscle! and don't walk around a gym like we're just modeling the fitness clothes!"
Though to be honest I still wouldn't mind having her bone structure, hahaha

Okay so first of all ROTFLMAO for the "not that there's anything wrong with that" comment. That was SO guy.
In all seriousness I once saw this really old lady with a stunning body. She was sporting the latest fashion and looked amazing. I will never forget that encounter with her and have vowed to myself to be that sort of an inpsiration to young people as I age.
The puppy is adorable and she is going to adjust quite fine to your family and vice versus. There is nothing quite like having a puppy around.
Finally I didn't yet comment on the progress. Congratulations on the 1 month pictures. I expected to see much less progress given your illness too. You did amazingly well and should be proud.

I was thinking 'Seinfeld' when I made the 'not that there's anything wrong with that'!
That's exactly how I felt aboout the lady at my gym. Simply amazing.
Well, the puppy and me will be family -- just the 2 of us!
Thank you for the nice comments. Right back at ya, girlfriend!
Hooray for finishing up Stage 2! Aren't you so thrilled that these stages are shorter? Excellent motivation for braving the blizzard and hitting the gym for that final workout, it had to be the best feeling walking out of there AFTER you were done. We were right on that line of the storm and were predicted to receive 4-6", but we ended up with some flurries and sunshine, thank God! I don't know how much more winter I can take and I think the daily threat of wearing shorts is just the next bump I need to keep me going.
P.S. I totally got the Seinfeld reference, just didn't get the chance to comment before you explained it. LMAO!

UGH! I can't take anymore winter!! Lucky you to escape the latest. They STILL haven't cleared my road!

Stage 3 Workout A is FREAKING hard!!! (OK, got that off my chest...)
March 10, 2008 Stage 3 Workout A (1 of 4)
One Armed DB Snatch
6x15 db
6x20 db
6x20 db I LOVED these!!!!!
SUPERSET DB Single Leg RDL
6x10 db
6x15 db
6x20 db I did better at these than I thought. Surprisingly, I had more trouble while standing on my dominant leg (left). I like these, though. I used one dumbbell held with both hands. I saw a video of these with a medicine ball and they were holding it with both hands (obviously), so I did it with the db. Worked good
Barbell Bent Over Row
6x35
6x45
6x45
SUPERSET DB Single-Arm O/H Squat
6x12.5 and 15
6x10 and 12.5
6x10 and 12.5 For those not familiar with these....you hold the ligher DB over your head and the heavier one between your legs and squat
DB Incline Bench Press
6x15's
6x17.5's
6x20's (yeah)
SUPERSET Plank
50 secs
40 secs
35 secs I am fading by this time
Reverse Wood Chop
6x20
6x20
6x20 Not quite sure on these......arm supposed to stay straight? How? Need to look into this one further and make sure I am doing it right; hence, the low weights
BODY WEIGHT MATRIX
I am fried by this time! I am supposed to do 2 sets of the following:
24 squats
12 lunges on each leg
12 lunge jumps on each leg
24 squat jumps
I did the 24 squats and the 12 lunges on each leg. When I attempted the first lunge jump, my legs were like noodles. Couldn't do it. Truly I was done. DNA left everywhere. So, I've got a lot of room for improvement on this one!!
BUT, it was a great workout. And for those who were excited that Stage 1 was only taking them 30 minutes......look out! No more!
I am so psyched to start this stage after reading your log- I was waiting for you to post your workout to read how it was. Im going to try to model your weights...

Your workout looks awesome! How was recovery?
You'll have to check back in a few hours! Right now, I am just whipped and need food!
My tips:
* Really "jump" with those DB snatches -- fun stuff!
* Really BRACE your core and concentrate on the RDL's...they are hard, but I feel good about them.
* If you figure out the reverse wood chop, let me know
* The body weight matrix is EVIL

That's awesome! It is so fantastic that these workouts are truly getting harder. It is something to look forward to--and it is so satisfying to really see and feel those strength gain. Great work, Jane.
I saw that body matrix in the book and thought...."oh, that looks hard. really hard."

Agreed. I Did Workout A-1 of stage 3 today, too.

Those were different. Challenging, but worth every drop of sweat on my brow!

Wasn't that fun???? I was glad I was all alone in the group exercise room doing the matrix... If someone had a chance to listen in, they would have thought someone was having a baby in there!

I thought that was me, today, doing my lat pull-downs like grunty mcgee!

Yeah, those are fun. Especially if you are doing max weight. After, like, 5th rep you let the weight of the stack pull your whole body up, while you cross your legs in a turkish style and linger on the bar for a sec before letting go (just like the basketball player does on the rim of the basket).
